How much melee reduction do you have?

Barbarian is also arguably the class that is most capable of working with gear that gives no primary stats. +Strength is significantly less important than +ResAll and +Vit, particularly early on in Inferno. If you had a piece of gear that gave no primary stat, but gave a lot of Resist/Vit, and also had life on hit/% damage reduction, WD/DH/Wiz wouldn't even look at it, and very few Monks would, whereas that would be a prime gear piece for a Barbarian.
The real issue is just how overall it's harder to get over that gear barrier that you need to pass in A2 at this point. Farming methods in A3/A4 like Aspect runs have flooded the market with high DPS weapons, which means that any weapon drop from A1 is automatically trash, making it harder for a Barbarian that's only A1-capable to farm his way into A2. This affects all classes, it's just harsh for Barbarians in particular because of how high the gear barrier is for us. It's not insurmountable--it just increases the amount of farming you have to do to really make progress.

I feel the barb is becoming less popular. I am happy with that. I love the barb and I hope it is the least played class so the gear drops down more .

There are a lot of pieces of Barb gear that you can get at absolute steals because 1) the demand is low, and 2) the lack of Barbs means that people don't know how to value their gear properly. Kymbo's and String of Ears are great examples of gear you can get at bargain prices simply because non-Barbs undervalue the stats on them that are enormously important to us.
That said, Stormshield is still too expensive.

Agreed I really want a Stormshield waiting for a price drop. I am debating if I really want the Justice Lantern.

Well as others mentioned it works both ways. When other classes are playing through the game and farming, they are probably picking up items suited for Barbarians and then sell it (hopefully for cheap) on AH. Since the "useless items" (highest stat is STR) they pick up won't suit another class (DH/Monk or Wiz/WD) they either just sell to vendor or try to make small profit on AH.
Good for the Barbs!

I say, take your time. Blizzard said it should take months to farm and finish Inferno. Everyone is going wild on trying it to finish and the game has been out for two weeks.
I'm taking my time because before, I was trying to rush through every game (Mass Effect 3, World of Tanks) since Diablo 3 was coming. Now that it's out, I have nothing on the horizon except for Planetside 2.
Gotta make it last!

On topic, is there a repository for Builds? I've been using my build since Nightmare and I think it works great but I'd like to try other skills. This thread is more about items than skills.

So is Lidless Wall the ONLY shield in the entire game that has aspd?
By the way, doing the Unknown Depths, Storm Halls, and Shadow Realm and then killing Zoltun Kulle and Belial with 5 stack seems to be the best spot to farm Act 2. No Sand Wasps or invis nagas(until Belial) and there's like 10+ rares always, with Zoltun Kulle and Belial both giving the 5stack nephalem guaranteed 3 rares and a ton of blues. It's also imo far easier than the desert or sewers. The only problem, of course, is getting this far to begin with. Oh yeah and those freaking blue kiter things that freeze and slow you, if a rare rolls mortar you're fucked

It's not like other Barbs would value ASpd that highly on a Stormshield, and plus, isn't there something about the "Attack Speed Increased" non-random property not working correctly on uniques?

I could probably clean up the OP a bit, but there are quite a few players here more qualified for assessing skills overall than I am.
If I can find the time in the next few days, I'll probably draft something up and PM a few of the other posters in the thread.

Filters are like broken. I know for a fact that some items have x property but you can't select that filter in dropdown menu for the armor category. Eg. String of Ears has damage reduction but that filter doesn't appear under belts. But you can still search for it through All Armor > specify level range > specify dmg reduction filter.
And you can find Stormshields for cheap, there's been dozens of 25%+ block with good stats for under 10mil.

And you can find Stormshields for cheap, there's been dozens of 25%+ block with good stats for under 10mil. That's because the damage reduction % is a fixed property for String of Ears. I think normal belts can't roll -% melee damage as a random property, which is why it's not listed as a filter for them.
With my current income, 10 million isn't really that cheap.
EDIT: According to D3DB, belts can roll various -% elemental damage reductions, but not -% melee.

I don't have much time to play lately (if at all), so forgive me if this issue is only related to time, but how do you guys make your money?
At the end of my week off I made it to act II inferno and it was basically a giant wall, so I figured I had to hang around act 1 to farm or something. I've been doing a few warden butcher runs, but that's not going to get me millions anytime soon, and 99.9% of loot is trash. It seems like the only way to progress here is to have a ton of money, but to get it, I need it (gear)...
How do you guys progress? Enlighten me.
I'm sitting around 40-45k HP with 10-11k dps and 70% armor without shout (don't remember brute value). I have about 30k after spending hundreds of K on some "decent" gear, if not bad. I don't understand how I'm supposed to have 10 million gold sitting around.
|
1 run of Butcher takes about 20 minutes and gives you around 70 magics/rares(most of which you will NPC but I for instance found a pair of 1.5mil boots in act1) which ends up giving you around 80k gold without any usage of AH. Simple math says that in 10 hours you can run that 30 times which gives you around 2.4mil, this is in just gold in a single day of hardcore grinding. Then add some decent drops and you might just make 8-digit numbers in a single day in just act 1.
In act 2 I find the best way to farm is Zoltun Kulle and Belial, slower clears and it's far more risky but the potential drops are also better, even though I find that the flat gold rewards are smaller - lower consistency.
Another one is just the auction house, I imagine you can make millions by just going armor - all types and then putting all resistances 60, vitality 100, max price 100k and then refresh-spamming for 10 hours in a row, insta-buyouting anything you see and selling for far higher. I've personally made about 2mil with this.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I haven't checked, but I think butcher runs take longer for me. I die multiple times to most elite packs. Barb sucks.... lol
|
Well I'm barb too and I kill butcher himself in less than 10 seconds and haven't died to a rare in ages over there, I don't think the problem is with barbarian

The drop quality isn't better, the only reason to do Butcher is for time efficiency (Warden gives more drops than Jondar, and the map layouts are easier to navigate). If you're not doing them quickly, Skeleton King is better farm.
