Yes, I'm no pro but with this build you can solo Act 3 and 4 Inferno(might want something else for Diablo himself, but everything else will work) http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#bRUdYT!aWe!cbcYcZ Use spirit walk to wade into the middle of a large group and then soul harvest, run back out as your minions engage, dump acid all over everything, when in doubt throw spiders, kite with spiders, throw spiders around corners, into doorways, spirit vessel will save your life many times, spirit walk whenever things get hairy, minions are much better at tanking damage now Spiders are a personal choice, I have decent crit chance and dmg, just make sure you have crit chance on gloves, helm, and off hand (not hard to find for cheap on AH), and get crit dmg on amulet/rings.

On you attackspeed: blood ritual (BR) get's better the faster you attack You max mana: the more you got the better spiritual attunement (SA) gets. You goal: If your goal is to be able to spam them without ever running dry: BR will normally help you more. If your goal is to just keep going as long as possible but will run dry anyway SA increases your maxmana. Your Gear: If you got no mana reg on gear you will never spam without running dry no matter what (in my exp). I feel BR is better most of the time. But after 1.0.4 I gave up my bats as I wasn't able to spam them. I'm running this: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#SfkUYT!aWe!ccaaca at the moment. Not completely happy with it. Had BBV with Rain Dance in there to spam bears with it. Always feels a bit all in like.

I ran A3 yesterday with some previously ridiculous builds, including just pets: Dogs Garg Spiders Manitou Zombie Wall Grasp of the Dead Was it great? Not really, but I got through without a huge amount of deaths and some small tweaks would make it more efficient, I wasn't trying to be efficient though, just seeing how far you can actually push 'viability' now, and you really can push it. Pets are so good now they open up all kinds of opportunities. Instead of asking that question why not go find out for yourself, the better your gear, the less conservative you have to be. You may struggle in wide open areas, and without great dps you'll probably need spirit walk in case your pets lose agro.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#aUdRTY!WaY!aYcbZa You basically run up to mobs / elites and pop spirit walk, do some damage with severance, soul harvest. Back out, let your pets take the agro, rain if anything is still alive from the soul harvest -> repeat. For packs its pretty much the same. It doesn't kill packs as fast as say totem bears but its fun as hell to play and clears trash stupidly fast. You have to play fairly close to mobs to keep grabbing health globes. After doing some act 3 runs I would recommend taking languish or siphon for soul harvest to either help the group or stay alive easier. note: umbral shock sounds better than severance but its actually pretty awful, the radius of the blast is really small 5-6 yards at most.

Also WD can clear A3/4 easily but you need a lot of money for that (my gear is worth like 200kk+(?)) and can clear cyde+azmo in 10-15 min or so. So I wouldnt recommend it for new players

So I wouldnt recommend it for new players I like sniping ranged mobs quickly with dart and the damage output is really smooth compared to other skills, it interrupts mobs a lot on crits etc. And yeah, I wouldn't use this build without high stats. You'll probably not have enough burst to make it work or die a lot from being close to mobs.

Don't get me wrong, I was a Poison Dart fag before 1.0.4 but after FireBomb buff it's clearly a better choice. 80% of the time you will hit 2 or more monsters, it doesn't get blocked by stairways and other obstacles and it staggers monsters as well. And now you can kite with it. If you have problem with being close to mobs = gotd is your friend. Fire Bomb makes your run faster. I don't believe that any single target spells are good right now. There's always some aoe spell with similar damage + aoe.

damage to locust swarm so I am fairly locked in to using that for aoe. Considering I want to use only one more slot for mopping up, the skill of choice still seems to be splinters. I used firebomb a lot and it does very well but the primary reason I am going back to splinters is what Doko said earlier, a very smooth/consistent damage output. This is very important when dealing with elites and trying to MF swap in act 3. I used firebomb and toyed with most of the runes and while most of the runes(minus pyrogeist) deal steady aoe dmg, its performance against elites(more single target) is spiky. I would more often swap too late(elites are already dead), or swap a little too soon and sometimes pay the price(die). Splinters allows you to successfully swap more often and more efficiently(less health left on elites) and focus them down quicker after the MF swap.

For diablo you have to replace dogs with something else, gargantuan still survives long enough to be worthwile for me anyways.
