I had a great helm drop a while back with bonus damage to locust swarm so I am fairly locked in to using that for aoe. I used firebomb a lot and it does very well but the primary reason I am going back to splinters is what Doko said earlier, a very smooth/consistent damage output. This is very important when dealing with elites and trying to MF swap in act 3. I used firebomb and toyed with most of the runes and while most of the runes(minus pyrogeist) deal steady aoe dmg, its performance against elites(more single target) is spiky.
I would more often swap too late(elites are already dead), or swap a little too soon and sometimes pay the price(die). Splinters allows you to successfully swap more often and more efficiently(less health left on elites) and focus them down quicker after the MF swap. You can run both firebomb and splinters.. Firebomb deals better, larger AoE damage than locust swarm. If you're hitting 2 or more targets, firebomb deals more dps. If there's 1 elite left or it's a boss, then use splinters. Pets are there to tank while you switch to MF gear..

Currently running with this build and gear. I've been playing on my Hardcore Wiz exclusively for a couple weeks before the patch so I'm still lacking in gold to get gear upgrades on my WD.
Prepatch, I liked the tactical defensive spells of the WD so I kept my 3 favorite ones (GotD, WoZ, Spirit Walk). The damage buffs to GotD and WoZ are also welcome I switched to Dogs for tanking.
Right now I'm just using Spiritual Attunement for more Dire Bats, but is there any better passive to keep in that spot with this build? I'm currently progressing through A2 without trouble.

Get a weapon with higher base dps. The stats are nice, but the base dps is so low >,< Once again, your mojo has nice stats, but low damage. You stacked quite a lot of crit damage but your crit chance is low. You can easily get 10-15% more crit chance if you shop around for nice bargains. Your total int is quite low; if you get a new weapon without int, your overall stats will take a huge dump.
Priority to upgrade gear: weapon, chest, mojo, boots.

I've been rocking this pet-based build since the new patch, and am having very little trouble progressing through A3 Inferno.
My gear is based on 1000+ Life on hit, about 900 life regen, and a ton of +life and +%life to help out the doggies. My question is this;
My choice to use acid rain and rain of toads is based on the massive life-on-hit I get back from those. Acid rain is a beast for this (if I felt safer I'd be using zombie bears instead), but I was wondering if there's a better choice for a primary skill to both proc LoH and to do some effective damage.

I got a new weapon and after the changes to my build (PtV), I get 38k dps. Firebomb + PtV makes progression so much faster. Now that I'm using Firebomb though, is Splinters of any use or can I risk changing to Soul Harvest or Gargantuan maybe?
Also, is it alright to sacrifice some Crit Damage for Crit Chance? I was advised earlier in this thread to aim for 250% crit damage and 30% crit chance (currently 210%/26.5%).
Edit: Got a Mojo upgrade too. 41k dps now with 27.5% crit chance

I really don't like soul harvest; it makes you do stupid things just to harvest souls, resulting in unnecessary deaths. Some people like the dps boost; it's up to you if you wanna play it risky or safe.
You want a balance of CC and CD. They scale better if you don't go overboard on one and neglect the other. Upgrade the one that's easier to get; it's CC for you. Get dual crit on your jewelry; it's okay to lose a few percentage points in CD but don't lose too much.
This is my WD: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Heh-1586/hero/5086942 Upgrades are fucking expensive for me and I'm hoping to pick up a manticore to finance my upgrades =/

The problem I'm running into without something like splinters on my bar is that I can't kill goblins if there's something else there to distract my pets.
|
I'm currently using this build:
http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#fSUgYT!Ugd!cYaccc
And I was wondering if anyone can see anything I might have missed that could make that play style better. The idea is it's a pet build with Spirit Bolt (Manitou) and Firebomb (Pyrogeist) allowing me to deal accurate and decent damage whilst keeping VQ up and I pay attention to not dying and with bears as a mana dump for dps. I've noticed people in this thread regularly see a way to make a build better that I miss so figured I'd ask.
|
@up: why pyrogeist and not normal roll the bones/ghost bomb? Also Manitou is pretty crappy IMO, grasp/SH/horrify would be better in that place. And why fierce loyalty?
Splinters are good when you are undergeared and cant kill fast enough with firebomb, with high end gear firebomb is a way to go.
Also it seems like bears are clearly the best mana dump, way better than acid cloud/firebats/locust. 700% dmg/150 mana is just imposiburu to beat.
my set up: http://www.diabloprogress.com/hero/divereth-2355/hero/39815 (do note: this dps doesn't include PtV) Next thing to get: The Witching Hour belt, Inna's Pants (?)

I know what you mean by the upgrades ... especially with the new batch of legendaries romping in. I've actually got a manticore for my DH which I have tried on my WD, but I found that i actually personally much prefer a one-hander plus WD off-hand, as opposed to beast 2-hander. Just because of the slower speed, and loss of stats and especially the mana buffs my off-hand gives. You should just try to buy a dud 2 handed crossbow just to feel the way it handles slower before you go buying a manticore, but of course its just my opinion and you may like two handers much more than i do. ..... or did you mean trying to find a manticore to sell lol? Speaking of finding legenerdaries I found 0 pre-1.04, 1.04 i've found like 4 lol. + Show Spoiler +
Bro I am in love with your gear, that zuni set is ridiculous good. I tried looking for your gear a while ago when someone mentioned it was a sick set of gear but couldn't find it, so thanks for posting it so i could finallly gaze. I have 72k dps and thought that was good, and you're on 88 which is pretty damn boss for WD.

Hi everyone!
Today I come with a very special style that nobody ever talked about. This is pretty original and I think I'm the only one playing WD this way right now so enjoy
I am running this build since the beggining and I'm glad it's finnaly working just fine with this new patch. Before it I was just unable to finish act III inferno since it just sucked hard. Dogs were to weak and the regen from grave injustice was insuficient. So I just stoped playin D3 for a bit waiting that they buff this awesome class of hero.
This is not a safe build at all but it's not the way I like to play. What I like is rushing into the big packs of monster, spamming my spell untill everything drop dead almost instantly (or untill I drop dead ). So if you like to have mass CC and very safe build this isn't for you! If you like rambo style witch doctor with crazy bears and dogs runing all around and exploding well I guess you might be interested.
So here you can see my WD: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/MEGAMICHEL-2945/hero/824662 As you can see I have pretty shitty stuff and even with this I can run act III inferno pretty easy (and without any problem with my barb friend tanking and me dealing damage) I die often when I'm alone but with the cheaper repair cost of items I'm still winning like 300k gold from an act 3 run (not counting the item sell from AH). When I will get decent stuff I think the amount of gold I get from the run will just skyrocket :D
The idea of this build is to get some items with increase pickup radius so it can be as much as you can (I'm curently running with only 20 and it works just fine but I think the bigger the better ). Those items are pretty cheap and I'm sure i could easily find upgrades for a very good price but I'm still waiting for their prices to go down as more post 1.0.4 items flow on the AH. The other item that you will need for runing this build is a heavy damage weapon. I prefer 2 handed because they can roll higher stats and the cast rate of zombie bear is slower so it cost less mana overall.
So basically i just SW into the mobs to get my soul harvest running. The mobs start engaging the dogs at this moment so I get behind them at the end of SW. I spam 1-2 waves of bears and then "BAM" sacrifice. All the trash mobs insta die and I get nice health regen + Full mana regen for spamming bears + Full CD regen!! When I'm lucky I don't even loose a dog as they are reborn with circle of life and next of kin rune. And from here you can either spam sacrifice or spam more bears as your mana will flow back as the enemies drop dead around you. The tricky part is as long as something die around me I'm just fine as my life and mana will regen allowing me to spam mass bears and my spell CD will come back really quick so I can SW again if I get in trouble. But if nothing die or if the dogs are not tanking all the mobs around you can die easily if your not carefull (stupid dogs!).
So now that you have the basic idea of the build please tell me if you find interesting way to improve it. I would love to hear what the TL community think about it

Put some of those 300k a run into buying a decent helm with a socket to level faster or raise your hp from that horrible 27k, i can't believe you are running a build that gets close to mobsin act 3 with low resist and 27k health. As for the build its ok, once you get your dmg up higher gruesome feast becomes incredible at boosting your dmg / gives you a slight resist boost and basically keeps you at near full mana during trash, id take it over zombie handler (assuming that doesn't kill your sacrifice uptime)
|
i actually thought about this build, so im glad someone is doing this. when i thought about this build, i wondered how good the spirit walk uptime is? It can last 3 seconds and you get the 15(or 13 with passive) sec CD reduced by 1 second each time you kill something. Is that enough to have it up a lot? Might help with being in melee range and all.
The wizards use something similar, but they have it easy since their CD are reduced on crits.

@ MacroHeroWanabe Buy a reworked mojo Thing of the Deep it adds 20 to pickup radius

Thanks for the fast answers to my post, just love the TL comunity <3
@Doko: I agree with you now that I run a build that make you stay in close range I definitly need some more HP and all res. But the buff from 1 to 2% of regen on grave injustice and those dogs are just insanely good imo :D. I wasn't able to clear even the first really big pack of trash mob with some elites on act 3 and now they just melt and my HP stay at a steady state (low but steady :D) and then the dogs let me clear the elites since I always have my little buddies I think the zombie handler passive isn't that good overall since even when I try without it I almost always have 3 dogs not sure that the 4th is really important...So I was concidering to switch it for something else. Don't you think I should take the jungle fortitude passive instead of the gruesome feast for cause of low HP and once I stack enough HP and dmg switch to gruesome feast? Or maybe blood ritual for the mana issue I have with elite that kill my dogs too fast ...
@ LaNague: yeah it's really good since the CD on spirit walk is already pretty fast! At the beggining of act 3 you have alot of those big packs of small goblins poped by chaman goblins (can't remember their exact name right now), they die really fast when hit in the face by your bears so you almost get back your cooldown on spirit walk in 1-2 sec. On tougher packs it just takes like 6-7 sec or so I would say. The main problem with it is the elite packs since I still get low on mana sometimes. On the topic of spirit walk I think that once I get some decent gear I will try to test the jaunt rune and spam the bears right at the same time and see if I can stay almost perma into the spirit world :D not sure if that's possible but the idea of this absolute imbaness is haunting my dreams since I thought about it :D
@DrGreen: OMG I didn't know about that legendary mojo, that would be just awesome for my build ! Makes me reconcider the idea that I "really" need a 2H weapon But after a quick price check it's at least worth a few mil gold I'll get it when I get decent 1H weapon from loot beacuse ugrading helm and boots seems the priority right now
|
The prices for Thing of the Deeps on the AH are retarded. People wanting 20 mil for a 100-155 damage roll. Hopefully that nonsense will right itself in a few days.
