If you want to farm mp8, I'm going to echo the suggestion that you grab a wiz hat/helm with CC. If you have to have the ruby in the helm, make it a wiz hat with 6 CC and 10 APOC. A lot of people prefer Storm Crow, but I love to use wiz hats.
The thing is, you don't need a ruby in the helm for MP8. Low MPs (even MP0) are way more efficient for paragon. So I'd suggest using your socketed Storm Crow when you're grinding paragon at a low MP and using a CC hat/helm for MP8.
As far as LOH requirements, it depends on how much you want to be asleep at the wheel. If you are low on LOH, but play with your wits about you, you can farm MP8 fine with 1-2 sources of LOH (600ish), especially with your 3+ APS. However, if you want to take the edge off and be a bit more casual, 1000+ LOH allows you to windup without fearing much.
Of course, this is entirely dependent upon whether you're running Energy Armor or Storm Armor.
For me, Blackthorne's Pants and Amulet solve the equation entirely though I sometimes end up with additional LOH from a ring or Storm Crow depending on what I'm wearing.
We can talk MP8 requirements more, but again, I'd need to know if you're trying to run Storm Armor or Shocknadoshards as these builds require more mitigation.

Polar, I don't see many Blizz-Hydra specs these days and I don't know what your goals are, so it is hard to say what to prioritize.
If you are looking for high-MP-efficiency, I'd suggest working on your AR. You might consider upping your armor and resists in general so you can replace Energy Armor with Storm Armor. Your belt would be a good place to start as you can get a relatively cheap one that has 70ish AR and +armor without sacrificing the INT/VIT stats.
That said, if you are looking for DPS, a Witching Hour is a nice option, though it will eat into your EHP. So I'd suggest replacing your Fierce Glaze ring with something with higher CC or with CD (or get some AR on the ring). CC Lacunis are a lot cheaper these days, so that is another option.

One other possibility is splurging on a trifecta zuni's ring. They're sick expensive, but would add at least 20k dps between the set bonus and the crit damage.
The other option is to keep the chantodo's force with ap on crit and switch your helm to andy's or mempo. Both would be big dps boosts, although you may want to find a chantodo's source with at least 8 or 9 AP on crit. I hear the small differences are noticeable, but haven't actually tested this out myself. I run at 19 APoC and it seems fine.

I don't have 2.51 APS, but he still kills shit really fast, at least in mp0 and mp1 (the only ones I've tried so far, I think he can do mp2 and 3 too without too much issue) and he doesn't really die, except when I mess up and take several Molten death explosions simultaneously. Stuff like that is what the teleport is for. Personally I think the key to budget CM wizard is to get some proper Life on Hit up, because if something somehow manages to get through the diamond skin, you're gonna feel it no matter what, so you should have LoH to heal up the next time mobs get frozen/crystal shell comes up. Big spike damage (i.e suicide fallen, molten death explosions, multiple arcane sentries, (one is fine though) etc kills me so I'm not at the point where I can disengage brain and collect rares. Not yet that is. Oh, and do yourself a favour and use the autohotkey script in the CM guide thread. I don't think it's physically possible to farm for a long time with this spec without such a script. PS, anyone got a cheap Tal Rasha's Relentless Pursuit?
it's possible and I used to do it but I also came from a heavy starcraft background w/ average around 200-250apm lol for like 20min straight over countless games. But I have since lost my touch since I been away from sc2 for around 6months because of this game :[ so now I am back to being a nobody!

Thanks for the advice. I've switched into an archon build pretty much, with AO included. I'm looking for DPS right now so I picked up a cheap witching hour for 10M and new ring.
I'm wondering how to determine whether Ice Climbers or Zuni is a better boots choice. I think climbers have the better stats overall, with the socket as well, but no move speed. So this would have to be paired with a tyrael's might (subpar vs tal rasha's chest) or an inna's with int to get back to 24% move speed. Zuni with AR is 20M+ though but it has the potential +int with set bonus. Any thoughts?
I think you could pick up a vile ward with ~200int, 80 vit for much lower than your max budget. This would boost your armor, health regen, and AR.

Think of IAS + CC as backbone, and CHD as the extra cherry on top (good, but not necessary). For your 1h, try finding a cheap chantodo's. Not sure what the prices are, but getting one without a socket, decent dmg, and perhaps even +IAS (~1.75+ AS) should be manageable, even if the dmg isn't amazing on paper. This will help a ton toward pushing your attack speed to a decent level. You should also be able to add some +armor and +AR, perhaps at the expense of some vit, without having to spend too much. You want to end up building up your armor + AR, without really doing much more to your vit. Oh and before I forget -- APOC! The stormcrow is a nice starter, but by this point you should also be able to get some on your source fairly cheaply, even if it means losing triumvirate. Trium is really the best choice for archons and ranged builds, but for CM/WW, it really isn't anything special. You should be able to find one with more dmg, equal CC, and +APOC for cheap (rare). Heck, might even be able to find a chant's source cheap too at this point. In any case, eventually you'll want to bump your source up to a chant's with APOC. Your LOH is probably fine for now, at least until you raise your DPS significantly, which you shouldn't worry about til you're comfortable with the build. Your gloves are very solid for getting your CM/WW going, btw. In fact, it has most of the more important stats you want to be stacking for CM/WW: IAS, CC, AR, armor, Vit, Int I don't think I thanked you yet, so thank you. =)

100m is my fortune.

What can I upgrade with this budget? I'm thinkin about lacuni or WH, find something with Armor + all resist, but everything so damn expensive...
At first, I thought my amulet was great. But now, it feels pretty weak
I'm sitting at 3APS right now, and 84k dps. I still kill mobs quite quickly in mp8. But at the same time, they kill me REALLY quickly too. In fact, ranged monsters + certain elite packs straight up break my Diamond skin (diamond shards) before im able to get going.

I know exactly how you feel, sitting on 100m gold atm, where I can't afford the godly items and the other stuff isn't really an upgrade. Just have a quick suggestion for you though, average damage on rings boosted my dps a lot. I think it might have to do with how much haste we have. Take your time though, prices on rare rings varies a lot.
As for additional tankiness, I doubt you'll find anything cheap, but upgrading the amulet to something with res all is probably your best bet. I have low end lacuni and witching hour too, getting decent tank stats on them skyrockets the price.

I can easily find some small upgrades, and then selling my replaced gear (and sometimes hoping to make profit over the new piece of gear!) I'm thinking about sacrificing the 3AS and go with a Crit damage Chantodo, not sure though. Being able to perma (or close) the uber is quite useful in a group game

Here's a whacky thought.. Does Arcane Dynamo work with Storm Armor?
I mean if the entire spell gets a +75% increase in DPS or if it's just the first lightning strike like Archon until you release the mouse button.
|
Hey Xen as far as near-permafreeze goes, try shedding down to 2.73+ APS from 3+. If you have ~17+ APOC and solid CC (~45+) it should be completely fine. So if you can maintain 2.73+ APS by swapping IAS Will for socket Will, I'd give it a shot.
I would say an IAS Will is best for when you are having trouble hitting 2.51+ APS at ~25 APOC or 2.73+ at ~17 APOC. If those criteria are met already without IAS Will, I think socket becomes the better option.

Time for some D3 after a break and I see almost everyone is doing CM/WW now and I don't have any APOC at all. Should I replace weap/OH or head for some APOC items or can I go with another build like Archon like I did last time I played? I have around 20M to spend on items if I have to upgrade to get some APOC. My Armory

archon is perfect for xp-farming.
cm/ww is nice to have one in a uber group.
AT blossom is THE dmg dealer against UBer.

wut? blossom? i never get it to hit anything consistently....
anyways i think you are underestimating the real dps sns, sns+meteor or sns + magic weapon electrify does. with my 117k dps im dishing around 800k dps sec with sns and actually more if there is high mob density.
by the way i feel like a fool, i had not bothered to max my mf as an archon for speed runs and just did so yesterday. Lost 40k dps and dropped an mp level but Man is it raining greens and browns now. 12 legs in 2 hours, best part is that im actually getting non brimstone drops again.

whats sns?
also you sure just some mf makes that much of a difference? too me it just seems like its just super random. 2 weeks ago when i was running mp2-3 at 250 5stack mf i was pretty much guaranteed 1 leg per run, sometimes 2-3. now im running with 400mf at mp5 without a single legendary from plvl 37 to 40.
i mean i could boost my mf by 60-80 by without losing toooo much by getting mf vileward, zunichest etc. but tbh i doubt its worth it.
|
sns = shocknadoshards cm build
about the mf, i really dont know if its just been a good streak, ill get a better feel when ive been running full mf for a week. What i do know is that my leg drop rate has doubled since i switched, not a single run with out one dropping and really more like 2-3 per 30-40 min run. Ive been getting at least a leg a day since 1.05, but not at this rate id go some runs dry then get one or 2 etc.... maybe i get a dry spell later on.
