Really, it doesn't take much. Not hardcore you didn't unless you were carried and avoided every champion pack/rare on the way and post 1.03 the butcher would have hit his rage timer.
To be fair he never said it was for hardcore. 12K DPS is also enough to beat the Butcher's enrage timer (which wasn't changed in 1.03 either).

Well shit, I must be getting my threads mixed, I thought I remembered the guy asking what was needed for hc.

Translation: Do you guys think a CM build using spectral blades instead of WW is viable? I'm thinking of playing my first wizard, but I don't like twister at all. Fuck my mobile keyboard.

Pardon my messy post last night, I was on my cell and thought about that question, but the mobile version of TL doesn't let me see what I'm typing.
So here's what I want to know:
Wizards run about with this Critical Mass build and use Whirlwinds for close range DPS and crits. So I was wondering if you could use Spectral Blades with a fast wand and still do fine. You would not need Arcane Power on Crit, so the weapon and offhand would be quite a bit cheaper.
My wizard just finished hell, I'm level 59 and quite a long way away from testing this out myself. Also, my funds are really limited, so it'll be ages until I'm comfortable in Inferno.

Same goes for the bracers/shoulders.
It all depends on what you want to improve. If you want more damage and similar defense then you can easily find higher int boots. You might need the health globe bonus on some other item. I think 145 int boots aren't that expensive. I got a steal on some 170 int ones. For the belt search for int 130 vit 50 and all res 30 and you should find something. You can find a better source damage-wise for about 2-3 million but may have to sac some defense on it. Shoulders could have more vitality and/or all resist but may be hard to find the life regeneration if you need that. Maybe look for it on the belt? You could easily find higher damage bracers but may have to give up some vitality. Good luck!

My advice is to first go for +25% movement speed. The sorc plays so much better with it. I'd go for Inna's pants (search for one with int/vit mod, much cheaper/better than 2 socs) and either Tyrael's Might or Wanderlust. Alternatively you can look for Lacuni' brawlers. If you buy cheap ones those should be available for 500k-2mill. That should allow you to drop teleport for familiar even giving you a dps boost.
Then I'd replace the weapon with a socketed runesword/darkblade with 2k+ life on kill. Runesword, because high ias is worthwile due to the offhand bonus. Life on kill makes farming much easier and trivializes illusionist bosspacks. If you want int bonus as well I'd budget 5 mill here.
Third I'd try to get 8+ arcane power on crit somewhere (helm/ source probably) so you can go for the mistral breeze/archon build, or at least replace the missile with arcane orb. Arcane power on crit with other good stats is very expensive so that's another 5-8 mill.
Fourth I'd try to get some crowd control reduction. Once you pass a certain equipment threshold the only situations that kill you are when you are feared/frozen/jailed/knockbacked, so try to get some on rings/amu/helmet even if it means sacrificing some dps.

I've been using a build like this and it works fine in most cases. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Serum-1204/hero/1551571 I've been using healing blades, which heals for a lot and also blood magic on magic weapon. I also use slow time - stretch time to both increase my attack speed and slow the enemies attack speed. I'm up to 49 crit w/o follower and its no problem on champion packs to be in either diamond skinned or have enemies frozen and I can have perma slow time. What kills me though is invulnerable minions. Invulnerable minions w/ some kind of cc whether it be frozen or jailer is literally an impossibility for me w/ this build without being way overgeared. I'm not sure if ww build has the same problems with invulnerable minions.
In act 1 I was able to farm comfortably w/ ~40k dps, ~300 ar, and ~6k armor (not hard to do, thats only ~2m in gear) with just a little more dps and resist I'm able to farm act 1 with zero deaths and can stand in desecrator/plague pools and take several arcane sentry shots.

Well, I can tell you that Spectral Blades is not a cheap build and its not really worth it IMO. If you have money just go improved archon godmode, skipping blades.
If you have high APM I suggest some kiting build to farm Act 2 until you get the money. Melee build with little money loses to mobs with crowd control, let alone shielders and invulnerables.

So ive come back from a long break of d3, looking to get started again.
22K dps, 6.5k armor, 250ish resall. Where should i start runs wise?
Also, how do you make any sort of fucking money considering every piece of gear i have is now like 10k.
Also, anyone willing to help, all my gear is yellow and i only have 12k LOL
Recommended farm / build for me?
EDIT: Also, is it worth coming back? is the game still just a solo grind fest and auction house simulator?
Is teamplay at least viable now?
If anyone wants to team up for anything (SC / HC, farming, levelling new chars.) drop me a PM!

with those stats u should be able to farm act1. If u cant just farm a bit of act 4 hell for the gold.
the positive side of the auction houses mid inferno gear price drop, is that after just some hours of farming even just for vendoring the crap and the gold you make you will be able to gear up since what u need to farm act 2 is so cheap now.
an easy build to farm with as a wiz lately is the ww cm build, u do not need much gear for it till act 3. U will need more than 12k though, but just spend a couple days farming lower acts and you will have the money to set it up.

My advice for anyone wanting an efficient very very cheap build is to run the ww build, but with shatter diamond skin for more damage as it will be very low. Find some normal gear for the random slots with int and some life or whatever. BUT for amulet, just go crit and life on hit, same on rings. Then go find whatever cheap helm, source with arcane on hit and crit rest barely matters. Then for weapon, life on hit and arcane on hit even 400 dmg will do it just doesn't matter. You will be unkillable and can farm act 1 and probably act 2 comfortably as well. Heck, for the sake of it i'll go buy it now just to see how much it would cost and if it's viable...
|
Okay here we go I can farm act 2 comforably with this except those guardian things with fire which are op, barely searched for items and was just looking for really really cheap stuff that might work. I ended up paying a total of 348333 gold from scratch and it is possible to go lower if you just spend a little more time looking for the items or higher if you want more efficiency ofc. I have 7000dmg=40kdmg/sec vs single target and more vs more enemies. Got 25k health and 600 resist with prismatic also have 1266 life per hit and 42% crit.
|
Okay, so I feel like I'm pretty well equipped overall, and can farm act 2 quite comfortably, but act 3 is still a bit hit or miss. Any advice on what to improve? Should I try converting to WW build? I love that extra crit chance on my source though...
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/AlQahira-1183/hero/3305720
I have about 16 million at the moment to spend.
I know I would benefit from a slower weapon (run out of AP slower) and/or some AP on crit, but the prices.. The problem I have switching out my weapon is that 288 vitality is so helpful.. Anyway, any and all thoughts are welcome. Rings are definitely upgradeable for 3-5 million each I guess, but not sure whether to just go all damage or look for some more resists as well.

O.o I have no idea what you're doing but with those stats you should be able to farm act 3 comfortably. I'm doing reasonably well with 25k dps and 27k health :O Maybe your resistance is low? Is there even a way to check that in the profile thing?
Your build confuses me though, why familiar? With 65k dps that 12% extra isn't going to do much, why not take an extra offensive ability like blizzard? Same goes for glasscanon, your dps is insane already, why add on it?

His build is pretty standard man, familiar or force weapon are clasics, as is glass cannon for a kiting build, both skills contribute to 27% of his dps. u want the most dps u can get to kill things as fastest possible to be kiting as little as possible. U are not playing to tank, just enough to survive ur own micro mistakes.
With ao and hydra u dont have ap for more offensive skills anyways, to add blizzard u would have to remove ao. the most u could do is add a signature spell to any of those 2 hydra setups.
alqahira, i think ur dps is fine enough for act 3 u might be wanting to stack more survability via resist all or armour so u can survive more hits beofre u kill stuff, the cheapest would be removing glass cannon and changing it for blur, that helped me a ton. Or u could also just go nuts on the dps and just melt everything before it touches you.
edit: just checked the passives, u aint got any cc in ur set up, u really need some slow on hit either via blizzard or changing astral presence for temporal flux, so u can kite better and make most of ur extra move speed. i personally have temporal flux , and changed venom hydra for arcane hydra so everything i shoot slows the enemies.

Well to go back to this guys original question it'll be even more viable after 1.04 and its certainly cheaper than getting apoc.
