TBH, Blizzard are the ones in control of the korean proleagues. Don't renew the SC:BW contract with the proleagues, but give them an option for SC2.

all they're doing is holding it hostage because of that retarded IP rights + time slot issue

I read the whole thing expecting some exciting news or a big announcement, got neither. I'm beginning to think nothing will ever really change about the game or bnet2

I'm actually comforted by this. I believe in Mike Morhaim, and I think if he took the time to personally address us, even if it is damage control, it shows that all of blizzard is invested in making this game good, and are actually listening to us.

Can't wait to see some of these new changes in, and can't wait for the seasons to start. Thanks mike.

Meh, I had a good feeling after reading the letter.

Then I realized everything is politics, PR, and ass-kissing. This open letter came immediately after the Mike vs Minister of Korean Culture mouthing off to each other.

Mike is just trying to appease to their main audience - Korean gamers.

In short, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

And from a purely business standpoint Blizzard should then hold the BW hostage if they want SC2 to explode and make money in that market.

Valve did it for CSS when DirectTV had their CGS program on. Unfortunately DTV doesn't know how to run a company.

I want more information on the 'Pro' and 'Semi pro' leagues. Sounds to me like we're just going to get a new Diamond league that most people get into eventually. It'd be nice if it was invite only. Otherwise I'm going to feel pressure as a commentator to actually earn my way in, which will take a lot of my time, hahaha.

Also, seasons... I'd like to see them be as long as traditional seasons. Would be interesting to have Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer seasons each year. I think four month periods are the perfect times for ladder resets.

aha, like delaying HDH2 until GSL preseason 3 is over
interesting way of supporte

Amateur tournaments refers to tournaments where participants are not professional.

I.e. having professional gamers like idrA and TLO competing in HDH2 disqualifies it as an "amateur tournament".

Well that was disappointing. No real new info, and it worries me that things like custom games get mentioned up front, none of the major sc2 competitive concers are mentioened, and bw gets a brief mention at the end. Honesly I just want to watch some good bw at this point. I'm happy if sc2 improves, but isn't my main concern right now. I honestly don't care at all about custom games and maps.

Korea gets free SC2 with WoW!? o.0

I'm excited about the new semi-pro/pro leagues too, makes it more apparent where you really are skill wise. The difference between HuK for example at the top of diamond and the average mid-diamond player is HUGE. Both should really not be in the same league :D
I don't Micro, I FEMTO. That's 9 orders of magnitude more extreme.

well, if they are serious about this, then I don't see why this should be the case

if we compare it to iCCup they could make it so semi pro league basicly resembles B- / C+ while pro is A- / B+ up....or something like that
it will definitely be percentage-wise and not point-wise; currently, I think about 6-7% are in diamond; if the top 1% overall get moved into "semi pro" and the top 10-20% of "semi-pro" into "pro", then this could work, don't you think?

Allowing WoW players to play SC2 is not a terrible move.

I would probably had kept my WoW account active if they rewarded me with a free SC2 for doing so. SC2 is about 5months worth of WoW game time.

And then you get to basically force players to keep their WoW account active saying "if you deactivate your WoW account, you will need to buy SC2 to continue playing it".

It sounds pretty smart. I wonder why they didn't do it in other countries?

They don't really mean any of it though. They'd have made the obvious changes to Bnet2 2 weeks in if they did.

always good stuff to hear from the man himself. Hopefully they will also add LAN, unlock global servers, rework the custom games window, improve the game lobby and make name changes free forever.

...Contrary to what you may have heard, it would make us very happy to see both StarCraft and StarCraft II matches continue to be televised at the professional level. These are both Blizzard games, after all.

I think this is a very important part. Can we stop claiming Blizzard wants BW to die now?

Other than that I'm highly interested in the custom maps. :D
Thanks for the info Waxangel!

Because he said it, it's true? The actions don't match the words here.

Gretech wants BW to die. Depending on their contract, Blizzard might or might not want it.

Gretech doesn't want BW to die - keep up with the current negotiations. They've recently said all they want is the IP rights and an -extremely- small fee (considering the profits the companies are making). At the moment, it really sounds like MBC is the one acting out of line, and they're the ones paying for it. KeSPA just wants both MBC and OGN to broadcast it and Gretech isn't happy with MBC. Hopefully it will get worked out.

Because it's easy to develop a shitload of content in 2 weeks. Seriously?
