The X58 is the enthusiast platform after all, so it has the extra features that an enthusiast would want, not necessarily the mainstream features. Triple channel RAM makes a difference when in extreme circumstances, like dual PCIe X16, and hyperthreading.
Still, the best reason for a gamer to get the X58 is the dual PCIe X16 imo. Though the i7 1366 does OC better under stock volts, if that kind of stuff matters to you.
... drop in 6 cores :D:D:D
Edit: The reason I'm considering running an AM3 system over a P55 system is because of the Dual X16 slots, and because of the dropin 6 cores. Oly? because toms says different http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/p55-pci-express-scaling,2517-4.html
dual 5870 http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/p55-pci-express-scaling,2517-10.html show only about a 5% fps so if you get 100 fps in a game you'll only get about 95fps omg! And only really loose about 5 fps on at resolutiosn that matter ie 1920x1200 and up.3 way and up shows degen although dual 5970's in quad fire may use more bandwidth. But even the 5870 doesn't use full bandwith really just a some peak times which cause a small loss in fps.

Err not Tom's Hardware
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3634&p=9
And even in that Tom's Hardware part, there was a notable difference between X58 xfire and P55 xfire in crysis. The X16 does come in more handy when it comes to graphics intensive (or maybe just unoptimized monsters, I dunno actually).
edit: don't take this as me saying it's worth it to go with X58 over P55 just because of PCIe x16. ><

Hey guys I have a quick question.
I have a motherboard that can only support pci-e x16 1.0 and not 2.0. I was wondering if I need to upgrade my entire motherboard to something like x58 or if I can just buy a newer graphics card and go with that.

PCIe 1.0 x16 is just PCIe 2.0 x8 right?
In which case most graphics cards should be fine. Maybe a 5-10% hit in performance depending on the card? I think I read an article where a 5870 takes about a 5% hit.

920's turbo only sets the multiplier 1 higher, i5s are 2 or 4? Forgot.
eh i'm curious what're your voltage settings? I had to up my voltage to get mine stable at 3.55 ghz

I thought you were sporting i5?
I don't recall the exact voltage at the moment, but it is around 1.125~1.150 Vcore.

oh fuck i misread that i thought u had an i5

People are posting some serious rigs here...why bother questioning whether SC2 will run on them?
I think this is something more borderline (my shitty comp):
Toshiba Laptop AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core QL-60 4GB Ram ATI Radeon 3100
The Radeon is an integrated card so I'll be pushing something like 3GB ram for games. Surprisingly, the card is pretty decent. I've been able to play games like Fear 2 pretty decently, but I have to put the resolution pretty low for stuff like Dead Space or Bioshock. Any ideas on whether SC2 will run decently on this system?

Ok. I'll buy the parts you build me the computer.

i5 is not good at stock voltage

Needs more RAM imo...

The HD4200 might not be able to handle SC2 well at that resolution. Though it should be able to play at low settings.

How will I fair if I continue with my current computer?
Vista SP2 32bit Core 2 Duo E6750 @ 2.66 GHZ 2GB RAM GeForce 8600 GT

In all likelihood, should be fine, well, now that we know things will be this month for sure, might as well as wait for actual specs to release and we'll all see.
For people looking into ssds, this seems pretty good as far as current prices go. That is, at the $130 after rebate part.

that ssd sold out so damn fast

It just kept on showing like it has stock then sells out again. I couldn't resist and grabbed one myself
