I was looking forward to what they have made
turns out they haven't made much progress after like 4 months -_-

My current computer is:
OS: Windows XP Home Edition CPU: Intel core 2 CPU Q6600 GPU: Geforce e 8600 GT Mobo: ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP ATX LGA775 P35 DDR2 1333FSB 2PCI-E16 3PCI 2PCI-E1 SATA2 Sound WLAN Motherboard RAM: 3GB DDR2 (DRAM Frequency 333MHz) HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3160815AS 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" PSU: 400W Case: I'm using a case that I got 5+ years ago. It has no fans. Resolution: 1920x1080
I am able to run Left 4 Dead 2 at 1920x1080 with Anisotropic Filtering, Antialiasing, and Vertical Sync off at 25-40 FPS.
I don't really want to replace my CPU and Mobo. Would I be able to get a new GPU and OC my CPU to keep up? I would need a new case and PSU to OC.
Which GPU should I get?
If I did get a new GPU and OCd my CPU, how well would it run SC2?
|
Apparently the Q6600 OCs very well with a decent cooler.
The PSU you would probably want to upgrade into a decent Corsair 600W or something.
The GPU depends on your budget. I would go for a 5850 if you have $300 lying around, and a 5770 if not ($160-170). However, even if you don't overclock and get a new GPU, you would still be able to run SC2 decently.

The store I shop at has it at the same price as the 5770. And is there any compatibility issues with my Mobo?
|
Should not be any compatibility issues. Your mobo has a PCIe x16 slot which should run the graphics card fine.
If the 4890 and the 5770 are the same price, the 4890 offers the superior performance, and I would choose it over the 5770.

might want to look at how hot a 4890 runs. it might not do as well as a 5770 in a case with NO FANS.
|
no fans wtf?
even my prebuilt emachines desktop had an 80mm fan
|
I just bought a Corsair HX650 PSU, Antec 902 case, HD 4890 GPU and 4gb of 800MHz 1.8v RAM. I'm putting it together at the moment.
|
lol, a 902? That's like what 4 built-in fans, ventilation would be fine now
Though with the old no fan case then yeah...4890 runs hot as heck.
|
I still use my old cooler master stack 830 or w.e that has like 8 fans in it all running at 1000 rpm for fairly silent and well ventelated case. When you buy a case imo buy high end and you'll use it though many builds, i just re-case my older stuff with cheap 30 dollar refurbished cases from coolermasters site i keep the good case for myself.
I want thermaltakes level 10 case but it's so costly but so nice and compartmentalized.

nothing compares with a HAF 922 :D
|
HAF 922 ew that's a mid tower HAF 932 man, ionno i'm eying alot of cases can't choose between a thermaltake, silverstone, cooler master case, was purusing at the thermaltake element V and speedo, looking for a case with big fans so i can set them to low rpm and still get good venting. Although i think i could hold on my cmstacker for a few more years it vents very well but although 1 fan at 1000 rpm might be very quiet 8 fans kind of builds up.
Can't wait to for ssd to advance more that means even quieter pc's dont have to hear my computer speed up and crap.

I'm reading forums and there are some crazy rumours about Fermi lol. Can't wait for the release + tests.
Benchmark GF100 1920x1200, 4xAA 16xAF DiRT2: 148 fps Crysis2 : 73 fps AvP3 : 82 fps Crysis Warhead: 58 FPS Left For Dead 2: 143 FPS (this appears to be CPU limited at this point) Hawx: 127 FPS World of Warcraft: 46 FPS (this result seems off to me, I assume this is a driver issue) Fallout 3: 72 FPS (clearly a driver acceleration issue here again) GF100's maximum load temperature is 55 C. edit seems kinda fake ( especially the ° lol )

Whoa that's really impressive :o
I wonder if it's actually credible though.

how do u guys think this will fare with starcraft 2? i can run dragon age ok on high ( not ultra high though) Also starcraft 1 is very glitchy on windows 7 ( even after running it without explorer and with the resolution thing up) does anyone know if there is a fix to this ( it freezes randomely) or if it works on ubuntu.
also whats something to upgrade next ? i was thinking of a cpu but then i would need to get a motherboard. Or should i get a new comp and put my 9800gt in it.

Fermi is still a bit off tracks... they had to reduce the number of processors on the chip because it was getting to HOT that it had to be water cooled...so the chip now has less 80 processors i think.
and yes that is sooooo FAKE... 55º ? ROFL the fermi is already known to have temp problems :>
