So worth the $300. Also, is anyone else excited about this new EVGA board that supports dual Bloomfield cores and has 7 pci-e slots? Seems exciting.

I've got lots of things to do for the next week, but once i do i plan on overclocking the crap out of these cards.

Well there is also the very diminished scaling when you get to tri-sli/quadfire etc, esp under crossfire setups, sli profiles give nvidia the advantage in that area but less use as not as many games can do sli as they can do crossfire. Also you're only getting 40 fps with a 5970 hum must have a 2k resolution cuz i saw reports of getting 60 ish fps at 1920x1200 with a 5970 with enthusiast shaders on.

Nope. http://www.hardware.fr/articles/777-11/dossier-amd-radeon-hd-5970.html ~ 40 fps AAx4 ~ 30 fps AAx8 1920x1200 You get 60 fps with "gamer" shaders.

This The 40fps i get is only 8xAA anyway, but with everything else maxed. There's no visible difference between 8x and 16x and even if you enable it's just =\.

Generally 4xSSAA vs 8xMSAA is about the same and there are the little Aa types that are specific to graphics cards and game engines. I'm sure crysis at 1920x1200 AA past 4 make little dif as the models are just so well rendered to begin with.

I'm fairly sure that with an Athlon II x2 (hopefully overclocked to add a bit of speed), or an Athlon II x3 (once again overclocked) and hopefully something like a 5670 (which will be released soon, at around the $80 price point), or 4670, just about any game would run fine. I'm estimating that the system requirements of SC2 will be rather like Red Alert 3, so with those specs it should be fine. An AM3 motherboard can be had for $38 after rebate on Newegg (with overclocking features) and 2 or 4gb of DDR2-800 is only like 40 or $70. Cases don't really matter, but once again i'm a newegg fanboy and the cheapest case located therein is $17. The Athlon II x3 or even the x2 overpowers an e5200, doesn't require an aftermarket CPU cooler (which you've neglected, stock intel coolers are shitty), and can overclock way higher. As far as PSU, the Diablotek PHD series 450 watt psu is probably the best bang for buck power supply in existence. Made by a very high quality company, 22a on the+12v rail, >9000 connectors for the wattage, and only $27.99. My local store carries them, but once again they can be found on Newegg. I agree about the 4670, but i think a comparable nVidia card is more like the Gigabyte gt220, even though it has 16 less SP than a 960gt it's only $64, with 128-bit ddr3, making it by far the cheapest (and fastest) gt220 with it's aftermarket cooler. The 5670/4670 will be faster however.

It is better than a E5200 and you will be able to uppgrade to something better ( Phe II x4, the next x6 etc .. ) However i would spend some extra bucks on the case because it is so convenient to have a good or at least decent case ( and if possible good looking ) furthermore they don't get outdated as fast than GPU or CPU so you could use the same for years. For the GPU atm i think the best choice is a 4870 / 5770 or if you are a little poorer a 4670. Dunno when the 5670 will be released ![]()
