how do u guys think this will fare with starcraft 2? i can run dragon age ok on high ( not ultra high though) Also starcraft 1 is very glitchy on windows 7 ( even after running it without explorer and with the resolution thing up) does anyone know if there is a fix to this ( it freezes randomely) or if it works on ubuntu.
also whats something to upgrade next ? i was thinking of a cpu but then i would need to get a motherboard. Or should i get a new comp and put my 9800gt in it.
Your computer is perfectly fine for SC2

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.52 gHz OS: Windows XP SP2 Mobo: Whatever was bottom-end for Dell in 2003. Don't know the specs, and really don't want to. Memory: 1GB HDD: WD 80GB Graphics: EVGA geforce 6200 PSU: Cheapy Dell And that's pretty much everything upgraded as far as the mobo will support.
I'm thinking no :{
Also, hello, everyone!

I doubt you'll get far with a computer in 2003 :p
a bit too old.

Honestly, it's what first got me into Starcraft. It was old enough that my PC could run it Once the release date is set, the pressure will really be on me to upgrade...

If you build it yourself it won't even be really expensive and you will be able to choose nice parts ( PSU, case, etc ... ) When starcraft will be about to be released just make a post here. People will be happy to give you advices for the config

Also just 1gb o ram will botleneck your computer alot.
You can build a very cheap PC that will run SC2.. BUT if you are gonna buy it for SC2 then wait for the game to come out because by then new stuff are out and you will be able to get a better rig

does anyone have any idea on how much the fermi gpu's are gonna cost? i'm in desperate need of a new gpu and i'm on a budget.

5770. Fermi shouldn't be available before March and will be probably overpriced for one-two months.
edit: But if you want a new card to play Sc2 you have enough time to wait for the Radeon 6xxx :D

Anyways the rumor ends up still waiting till 2011 and a movement to 28nm and use of Globalfoundries, which i think the last part of using GF instead of TSMC wont happen for a longer amount of time AMD has their cpus to consider and GF is very immature. So acutlly waiting for 6xxx is too long cuz isn't sc2 a TBA 2010 release although the lack of beta for the masses worries me.
Geforce Fermi 100 (GF100 get it it's the name of the chip) the high end one probably will cost around a 5970 but preform 10-20% under it (although in DX11 games it may take performance back but thats under Nvidia's benchmarks and they have magical ways of getting just the right benchmarks, ionno how they do it but they can)
But what is important is that the design of the GPU is extremely scalable so they could get more affordiable shit out there, the main one imo is the one to compete with the 5850 and 5770, if they can get one that competes with the 5770 and be able to play dx11 games at 1680x1050 they win alot of market right there, the 5770 does shit with DX11 it really takes a 5850 to run a DX11 game for the most part.
Best case nvidia really has a winner right there in terms of quality and imange it's just rape and their press releases and NDA is just normal crap. More likely is that they will have something that competes agressively at the 5770 level and at the 5850 level but leave us a little blue cuz their PR was just too exciting compried to reality.
Either way it should be good to see GFxxx finally out and a price drop from AMD (Which should be possible for their with their better yeilds and smaller gpus for the most part)
Sigh i should stop procrastinating on this site and get back to work.

ooh ooh can I post my uber computer specs that I already know will run SC2 too?

Actually the high end Nvidia card should perform above or equal to the 5970 and cost more.
:p

It is a fact. This card is 6 month late i'm sorry. So if he wants a not too expensive card now the 5770 si the best deal.

The 5770 is pretty expensive :p
I would suggest waiting for the 5670 or 5650 when they come out. The laptop versions should be coming out soon, and I would assume the desktop versions would be out before them.
If you are on a budget, the new Nvidia fermis are the one line of cards you should avoid. They will cost too much.
