btw, I don't know if winxp has the gui version or not.. but win98 had a nice program that'd let you choose which file you wanted to extract from the install disc. start>run>sfc

intotherei, that is when you do a "quick erase", as it is only marking the data as erased, then gets overwritten as you write files over it. A full format completely erases the data and it is unrecoverable

i think most info can be recovered, but it may cost alot of money and a trip to a lab. my comp did not die while i was a work, so hopefully it is fine now

well if nothin works then delete all ur partitions...make a new one...format ur comp using "format c:"...dont format it usin "format c:/s" cuz u dont want anything in ur HD at this time...then reinstall ur windows xp...dl all the windows update except the "windows SP express" shit cuz it wont work on cracked XP..hope that helps

Dude what I recommend is using Windows XP Professional, GEtting a cd key from me, and you can update and do whatever you want with it. ONly idiots look for cracks on kazaa =(

canadian logic at work. schooled if u want to spend lots of money and disect a hard drive maybe u can recover some data, but for all intents and purposes, if u format your drive all data that was on it previously is gone. why do u even come here?

HovZ, dont be fucking dumb, if you format a HD, that doesnt mean all your virus' will magically dissapear. What if the virus is in your ram when the computer is running, and you restart your comp to format. Sometime it takes up to 10 minutes for your ram to clear after you turn off your computer. If you want to format it PROPERLY follow this order.

1) Restart Computer in DOS mode with a Win98 Boot Disk
2) Once in DOS, type format C:/q
3) Type fdisk, delete all partitions
4) Type fdisk /mbr
6) Turn off computer, leaving it off for 20 minutes
6) Turn it back on, boot with boot disk, go back into fdisk
7) Remake partitions
8) Format again to make partitions useable.
9) Boot with your favorite OS

I can't guarantee this will completely wipe out all virus', theres A POSSIBILITY that they can infect your bios, but thats like getting struck by lightning.

And hovz, ive seen a guy with a program that cost 150 bucks format a drive, and get most of the files off of it 40 minute a later with a few clicks.

if u have a virus and u format ur drive, for all intents and purpose the virus is now gone. viruses that remain in ur ram will have cleared by the time u format

I'm going to recommend a marriage counciler for you two. Typically, you don't shut the machine off when formatting, rather restarting it, when leaves resident memory intact. You'd have to leave the computer off for like 30+ seconds to clear it..I've never done that during a format myself, or known anyone who has
