Again HovZ is wrong.
RAM only clears when there is no power to keep it there, and that can take up to a minute-10 minutes depending on your power supply. Power supplies can hold power after being turned off because they have capacitors in them. Have you noticed when you restart, the power actually doesnt go off?

depends what ram, some is volatile like edo, sd ddr can hold its memmory for a while before it gets wiped

Or you can just not hook up to the internet, and get norton and the windows patches on there before u hook up to the net. Burn them to a CD with another computer..

I have to agree with 'IntothereI'. A full format does not erase all the areas of a hard frive. Intuit Corp (Turbo Tax) a few years back was using a Pirate Prevention routine that used an area of Cyl 0, Trk 0, after the MBR that does not get touched with normal formatting. You have to use a use of a special program to annihilate that area of the disk.
