Shit is still hard to do and you have to find people for it and interact with them. It's just done outside the game mostly these days through discord or forums. Again this is just rosetinted glasses speaking. You didnt have your list of steamfriends and your list of bnet friends back then. You added characters and talked ingame. Now you join a discord, play with the friends you already have, join their guild or group. Add people through bnet-tag etc etc.
If you start to push high m+ you will know most names soon enough, its always the same people.
It just feels worse because youve been playing for 10+ years now and been there done that.

Yeah i was going to post something similar, Vanilla it was all know, the game was new, the style, everything happening brand spanking new. Raids were crazy but if that same raid system was in place now the game would have only a handful of hardcore players, just like in Eve.

However we evolved from now and the game is fine, i too am only in a guild me and my friends made which are just 5 of us, 1 is PvP god so he is busy practicing for BlizzCon so he isn't playing then the other raids socially on another server so we pug alot for Mythic plus and make friends that way. Also as said our battle net friends lists are full of people we found in queue finder that want to play again in the future. If anything it is way easier to find friends now than it was back in Vanilla.

Early WoW leaves me thinking about TBC and even WOTLK a lot more than vanilla, it was straight better than vanilla in so many ways while having a more familiar style than the post-4.2 WoW.

That was the biggest turning point for me. After 5 mans dropped out of relevance for most of WOTLK and naxxramas was widely considered to be too easy they decided to make the dungeons harder again, but shortly into the expansion did a 180 and nerfed everything hard across the board - even the previous tier raids on the release of the next when it was very unusual to do so because of them being relatively trivialized by new content and gear. Huge nerftrain

The Bastion of Twilight

The damage modifier on normal difficulty has been reduced for Arion, Elementium Monstrosity, Feludius, Ignacius, and Terrastra.
One of each type of bound elemental in the Ascendant Council chamber has been removed.
Bound Deluge's Frost Whirl ability now deals 50% less damage.
Arion
Chain Lightning damage and chain distance has been reduced.
Cho'gall
Health, melee damage, Health of Corrupting Adherent, Depravity damage, Corrupting Crash damage, Flaming Destruction damage, and Unleashed Shadows damage have all been reduced by 20%.
Corrupting Crash and Depravity
The amount of Corruption they give has been reduced to 5, down from 10.
Corrupted Bite effect caused by Blood of the Old God has been reduced.
Damage taken from Corruption of the Old God per Corrupted Blood has been reduced from 3% per stack to 2% per stack.
Debilitating Beam damage has been reduced by 20%.
The duration of Twisted Devotion has been reduced by 25%.
Dragon Siblings
Health, melee damage, Twilight Meteorite damage, Devouring Flames, Blackout damage, Unstable Twilight damage, Twilight Zone damage, Twilight Blast damage, and Fabulous Flames damage have all been reduced by 20%.
Elementium Monstrosity
Electrical Instability damage has been reduced.
Feludius
Damage due to being frozen while Waterlogged has been reduced.
Halfus
Health, melee damage, Fireball/Fireball Barrage damage, Furious Roar damage, Scorching Breath damage, and Shadow Nova damage have all been reduced by 20%.
Nether Scion, Slate Dragon, Storm Rider, Time Warden, and Orphaned Emerald Whelp health has been reduced by 20%.
Shadow Nova base cast time has been increased.
Ignacious
Rising Flames now increases damage by 3% per stack, down from 5%.
Terrastra
Harden Skin now increases physical damage dealt by 20%, down from 100%.

Blackwing Descent

Atramedes
Health, melee damage, modulation damage, Roaring Flame Breath damage, and Searing Flame damage have all been reduced by 20%.
Modulation no longer causes Sound in normal difficulty.
Sound given by Sonar Pulse has been reduced to 3, down from 5.
Chimaeron
Health has been reduced by 20% and melee damage has been reduced by 10%.
Chimaeron will now only cast two caustic slimes per 30-second cycle.
Drakeadon Mongrel
Time Lapse no longer stuns.
Frost Burn silence is now 3 seconds.
Dwarven Kings
Whirlwind no longer drops threat.
Execution Sentence now deals damage only.
Shield of Light absorption has been reduced.
Magmaw

Lava Parasites have been diminished.

Magma Stacking debuff effect has been reduced by 75%.
Nefarian's Shadowblaze cast frequency cannot increase beyond 1 once every 15 seconds.
Onyxia health and melee damage has been reduced by 20%.
Shadowflame Barrage damage has been reduced by 20%.
Tail Lash damage has been reduced by 50%.
Omnotron Council
Health, Melee damage, Electrical Discharge damage, Lightning Conductor damage, Health of Poison Bomb, Incineration Security Measure damage, and Arcane Annihilator damage have all been reduced by 20%.
Barrier absorb amount has been increased by 100%.
The cooldown on Power Conversion (Converted Power chance) has been increased.
Flamethrower damage has been reduced by 40%.
Static Shock caused by Unstable Shield damage and Poison Bomb damage has been decreased by 50%.

Deadmines

Vanessa VanCleef (Heroic difficulty) now has a sweet, sweet voice to accompany her dialog.

Throne of the Four Winds

Electrocute now pulses every 1 second, up from 0.5.
Feedback duration has been increased to 30 seconds, up from 20.

Ice Patch slow effect is now 5% per stack, up to 10 stacks, down from 10% per stack, up to 30 stacks, and damage has been reduced by 20%.
Wind Chill damage has been decreased by 20% and now increases damage taken by 5% per stack.

Zul'Gurub

All cauldron buffs are now usable while mounted.

and LFR was introduced right about then as well. That's the first patch that made me seriously question what the game was and would become. Since then it's lost most of what i liked about it but it's still the best game out there for a few niches IMO. It's also the infamous totalbiscuit quit patch!

Yes but when those nerfs happened it was about the time Firelands was about to come out, they did the same thing with Firelands->Dragon Soul too.

What killed Cata for me is we were one of the first guilds on the server to even kill Rag on normal(keeping in mind fights were harder back then) and in our guild were tied with the other raid group in heroic kills(as some of the heroic bosses were easier than rag normal) when they hit the entire raid normal/heroic with the nerf bat for some reason most of us quit at that point.

Also to add upon this nerfing T11 was more or less for the fact you could go grind gear to gear up alts since there was no warforge system, 99% of the gear was worthless(with very very few exceptions) from t11-t12 off the bat i think the only thing that was still decent was sinestra gear/heroic magmaw trinket. i think the heroic council trinket was good too but im not certain.

different times nowadays, not the spoonfed kill all of normal and most of heroic in the first week garbage we have had for 2 expansions now

to add on to this the only T12 nerfs before the big one i can remember(not 100% dont quote this as honest) were mostly bug fixes and QoL things, such as the Rock guy spawning volcanos behind him occasionally, and there was no way to turn him that fast which was usually a wipe when he did it anyway

Yes but at that time what was the point in going back and doing old content? Aside from transmog and achievements(i.e just to say youve done it) the gear was worse than firelands and with very few exceptions at that.

making it easier to pug it so people can come in and actually see the content(no lfr till DS mind you) is a step in the positive direction imo

Already easier with new gear sources like being able to buy tier from unlimited dungeon currency

it's just a different direction, leaning towards raids even 1 tier behind becoming trivial and worthless while also contributing to scaling issues that got way out of hand shortly afterwards

God dont remind me of firefighter. I skipped summer class and my part time job for a week on the start attempts on both of those. That and Alone in the dark was the most hours raw hours Ive spent playing anything.

I have some friends feeling similarly and i do myself, i've stopped most of it but you just know that blizz/activision have a whole department of psychology guys whose job it is to make people feel needlessly obligated or compelled to play for more hours per week.

Acti filed a patent recently about tech that would allow them to manipulate matchmaking in multiplayer games specifically to push players towards microtransactions

The switch from using player enjoyment or subscription counts as metrics over to the amount of hours that players are logged in is similarly concerning; playing for 30 hours a week and staying subbed doesn't mean that i like the direction of the game or appreciate doing that more than playing for 20 which is already a fuckton of hours to maintain for years at a time. If anything it makes me more likely to quit for periods of time as it's unsustainable and there might not be much point half assing it if it gets too out of hand.

I think those bots are literally just going to be for CoD though where they just sit and fill up lobbies. In PC CoD there isn't that many who play certain matches etc.
I highly doubt they could implement the bots into anything other than shoot em ups atm.

I did stop after doing two invasions, can't even bring myself to do the third one for the quest.

But Blizzard is really good at making me feel like I SHOULD do that stuff.

I really just wanted a class mount and get it over with, instead I already logged over 100 hours in Legion.

This is the issue for me. As someone who went really hard at the game in school for a while now even the 3 day top 150ish level requires more time than I am willing to invest. I did it in NH it was fun but then there were to many things forcing you to log in and do mundane shit because you wanted to remain roughly competitive.

Back in the day even when you did the 5 day a week or 2 weeks straight on tier release schedules they were short bursts and then you sorta became raid loggers in the game. That wasnt so bad then because you had an end in sight for a tier in terms of your progression and then you could play the game at your leisure and recharge your battery's. And do other random shit that in the game that was not grinding. Fun stuff for funs sake. Getting to this last part was exceptionally difficult for me this time around because my time outside raids was constantly doing things I felt I "had to do" if I was going to be in the game. I can choose to not do them but then you feel a little guilty somewhere.

You could do other stuff with your guild in other games or heck even other activities like meetups and stuff (especially in EU) and then you ended up staying with the game longer because you enjoyed not just the game but the people you played with.

Granted this isnt the games problem and just my experience in general other people may feel different so I would hesitate to criticize the people running the game for it. I just chose not to invest my time in it till I feel like it again. And usually that will be around a new tier or xpac.

Sorry for another whine, but here goes:

Is nobody else bothered by the insanely disparate quality of life between classes outside of raids?

I first leveled a priest, then a rogue. The rogue moves much faster, has so much more convenient AOE / Cleave, kills faster, can pickpocket, more convenient self-heal and can reset combat when things get too heavy.

The priest is super clunky the moment there's more than one enemy (that's to say nothing of swarms of lesser enemies), moves super slowly. And even the utility legendaries suck major ass...

I have a rogue and monk. Both do great in world stuff. Tanks in general do great since there is no threat to die, and rogues do really well since you can just skip past any mobs you dont want to fight.
