Please keep the QQ to a minimum if you do not like this update. We are happy to hear your reasoning for not liking a ranked system, but no "OMG VOLVO WHY" posts. |
On December 09 2013 06:36 AndyJay wrote:Show nested quote +but in Dota2, you have to play 150 games first to get basic established MMR before playing rank. That's really not much of a difference. In HoN you had full access to KDA, CS and heroes played so you could easily spot smurfs even with low games played. My takeaway from HoN's mmr is that it doesn't matter if you get feeders, or if you are in mmr hell, or if you play support, Diamond will be Diamond, Bronze will be Bronze. The statistics come through in the end. The difference is, in HoN, even though you can spot a smurf, you can't avoid playing against him since you're already matched against him. Dota2 and LoL MM system will ensure people to be in their appropriate bracket BEFORE they start playing rank, hence reduce the amount of getting stomped by smurfs.

funny thats what everyone saids when i call them out. OH NO IT WAS PSR NOT MMR. fyi hon wasnt out 4 years ago.
and btw i played a ton of high rated pubs before proper mm came out, remember those 1700+ kings men only pubs hosted by testie? oh wait ofcourse you dont cuz you need atleast 1700+ to join the lobby.

I used to play with Murs and regularly stomp 1700+ pubs against Testie. Nbd. I think Murs had something funny like a 90% ratio over 100 games.

That is pretty cool, and I think it will be effective. Dota on the whole has much better smurf protection ever now then HoN did when I played. I went 15-0 solo queue on a new account in HoN once but there's no way I (*an avg player) could do that in Dota, it boots you up the mmr really fast for your first games.
That being said 150 games is quite a lot, and it might be a pretty annoyance to new decent players (perhaps from LoL) who want to play ladder but have to grind 80 hours or whatever of games in unranked. I guess most of us have 1K hours + easily in dota but 80 hours is more time than a lot of people have ever spent playing a single game. It will also be the first thing in Dota that requires playtime to unlock (I guess you count the tutorial).

to quote you from ealier
Anyone decent at DotA 1 could be 1800+ with their eyes closed in like 20 games when I played. If you were playing in a decent IH invite only, you were 1900+ while smashing scrubs with dumbshit heroes like Deadwood/Fade who were absolute garbage outside of pubs.
if you played in those pubs you would realize it is impossible to get 1800+ that quickly and that 1800 players are actually very skilled compare to alot of front page dota2 players atm. and fayde wasnt released back.
im sure you are a decent players but please dont exaggerate things so much. ppl make hon sound so easy when it takes the exact same effort as dota/dota2. just look at the fnatic hon boys tearing ppl new ones in the recent tournaments.

You realize that Hanni is like one of the oldest dota 1 players ever right?
Not to mention 1800 was not that difficult once enough people started playing.

Hey guys, take these personal arguments to PM or elsewhere. It's getting out of hand, and derailing the thread.
You will be actioned against if you continue so let this be your warning

If you play 4 games a day, you can reach it in over a month.
And it's not like you're in the Wild West or something. In that 150 games, you will still play against people who have similar MMR to you (they are also people who have under 150 games, or people who just want to search normal casual games), so it doesn't matter if you play rank or not, you'll still have the same experience. In a nutshell, it just means that you are technically playing rank, but doesn't see your rank until you reach 150 games.

Alright Superstartran, Brood War God & Hon God incoming.
Let's get this straight, from every single ladder I've ever played on I've had the best stats with the best win % since forever. Cloud ladder, WGT, PGT etc... Hons ladder as well. There were some other starcraft ladders inbetween cloud/WGT/PGT and I crushed those as well.
That might not mean a lot to you 99.99% of people aka not me who can't do that, but that's pretty special. You're probably the same trash that hides behind his shitty stats and low ranking to say, "stats don't mean anything". To you, they don't. Because they don't tell the story. I have the highest TSR (True skill rating) on hon for a reason. So far I think I am the only person on hon who has a perfect TSR of 10 in over 100 games. The next excuse people say is "lol you have supports doing their jobs for you stacking". Trust me if I had a support of my level doing my job, I'd be doing even better.
I've recently had Starcraft 2 grandmasters come in and commend me on how damn good I am. Trek and Piqliq both recently said, "Back when we played brood war I thought you were the best" that's pretty high praise from Trek a player as skilled as he is, and Piqliq a SC2 grandmaster. And when I was in my prime in BW it was pretty much the popular opinion at the time. I've played games at a higher level than someone like you ever will, you do not get to talk down to me and just list your favourite players who played the same game as me (hon) and were defeated. Their teams could not touch ours, we knew they were freewins going into the match.
In Dota, I literally only played exclusively with friends, I didn't enter any competitions with any of the better people I played with. No offense I don't think you can use my dota days for anything except a set up for hon considering there weren't competitions that were really interesting at the time and the player base / attitude was for the most part shit. The few tourneys I played in, I played with team mates who were far below my skill level and I think we still reached the finals in every single one. I never met a dota player I felt was better than me, though I did meet a few that I thought would make decent team mates in Garena scrims.
The minute I switched to hon, I shot right up to #1 and #2 on the ladder in which I traded places often with Chu. I joined a team, and we became the #1/#2 team instantly with no real work and no real team building. This continued in hon despite my team never really putting forth the practice that I would have preferred of them. All the players you've listed were worse than me, they did not beat me in any tournaments yet they played and tried. Was their motivation & team composition the same it is now? No. But does anyone play to fucking lose? Not anyone respectable at least. I always placed #1 or #2 and had the best stats in literally every single game I have played since I began playing online games, and you try to argue this?
As for levent, you do know he was the second worst player on our team, and I was widely considered the best player on every team I have played on thus far.
The day I have to switch games again is the day I start the shit stomp process all over again. "lol testie you can't make it in starcraft", done. "lol testie you can't make it in dota", pretty sure everyone I played against feared me and did their best to keep me down. Every game I played the teams were almost always stacked against me in inhouses. "lol testie you can't make it in hon it's much faster than dota and harder to play", 1 month -> #1 rank. Now I'm going to hear "lol testie you can't make it in dota2". ROFL. I've made a living off shutting people like you up, and I will continue to do so. I hate seeing streams like "#practice #dedication #streaming for the viewers." know why? Because they are weak.
Right now I currently run a business on hon, a business others have tried to replicate but do not do nearly as well. Because guess what, skill and stats matter and my stats show that I will succeed more often than them.
I stream 12-14 hours every fucking day playing all day ignoring everything else that is not doing what I love. I don't need "motivation" to play. I pour my all into it day in and day out without wavering regardless of what little shits like you say.

I'm not sure about all the points they addressed (changes in ranked mmr not affecting unranked, separate solo and team mmr, ap in ranked etc.) but it sounds nice.
I could already get decent games queuing CM with a stack, what I hope these visible ratings will achieve is to put those loud guys who overestimate themselves in place among their friends.

This will be my favourite affect of the change. Playing with friends friends or pickup groups like teamliquid chat groups and what not becomes a ton more organised and enjoyable if you have some actual metric of a players ability and not just 'yeah he's ok at some heroes, not amazing but decent'.

Whoa "ANGRY"testie.
HoN really can't be taken seriously anymore though, I'm a big advocate of HoN and even have a hontrash themed name for dota, but that game wen't downhill a few patches before gemini hit. F2P model ruined that game badly.
Why is testie so upset?

I personally never really liked testie, beat him in a pub once and felt really cool, probably still have that replay.
I have however been fanboying n0tail for a while now thanks to hon, He's just so much more likeable.
Or what about jigglebilly, what was that dudes name? He was a riot too.
