The men have not yet made any demands or issued any statements but did put up a sign saying "Crimea is Russia.". AP reported that they threw a flash grenade in response to a journalist's questions. lol | ||

Well.. they ould have been useful now! If there is a junta in power bringing authoritarian laws, violating minority rights and freedom of speech you don't sit around and dwindle your thumbs. Whatever is happening now in Crimea and the push for federalization in the rest of the eastern half of the country is solely the fault of the junta in Kiev right now. If the junta starts murdering people that don't share their ultra-nationalist views it is the responsibility of Russia and the EU to intervene and give the power back to the people. The 150k soldiers on the border keep the junta in check. | ||

Fortunately, the current technocratic government shows no inclination to respond to those provocations. With the EU and US advising them, I'm hoping they'll continue to do so. | ||

If I understand things correctly Russia is making these moves to defend the Russian speaking population of Ukraine, so comparing it to NK/SK might not be a smart move. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the majority of a certain area is Russian speaking (aka eastern Ukraine) they have all the rights in the world to be protected of the Ukrainian speaking population of the west, assuming they feel threatened and/or not represented in their parliament. At the very least I find it really, really hard to argue against the Russians being the "good guys" here. | ||

I don't see Germany sending its troops around the globe every time some foreigner who has learned German is imperilled. | ||

I don't get how anyone can construe the role the Russians have been playing in this entire process as being the 'good guys'. Let's remember they were the ones pushing for shooting more protestors. | ||
