This is Endurance here and one thing I learned from working with Pat over the past years is that he can keep his cool.
He, one of the chief creators of the website, got his site hacked, and he's doing less whining about it than most of the people who have done zip for the site. Look at his post, pretty calm for just having part of his creation hacked and database deleted, no?
He didn't even cuss at the guy or anything.
Meanwhile, for 13 pages, it's back and forth, back and forth. "OMG, when will it be back!?" "OMG, shut up and wait!" Gee, the calmest one here is the one who's working to fix the issue. Give it a rest guys.

You cannot make demands on someone who coordinates something for you every day that you love that is free. None of you have any idea how much mental effort it takes to run something like that. It's like he's running a business, except without profit. You can't ask anything of him.
That said, something like this happened before iirc, and I think there was a similar debate (how much do we demand of Pat or something like that). And in that case and this, most of the controversy/stress etc. could be avoided by just communicating a little bit more. I think last time there was like some big single statement without any follow up as well. Right now everything is just an echo chamber, people reverberating from very little information. Again, not that this is his responsibility, and not that he SHOULD do anything other than whatever the hell he wants, but if he just said something like "Hey guys, I'm working on it, i'd say a couple weeks" or w/e, it would all be cleared up. But hey, that's not his style, and we need to respect that. If it were me, I'd just have some admin handle it, surely someone besides him knows what's going on.

i remember 1-2 years ago when the funding or the contract or something for team liquid was up. and the community faced a world w/o it. those were sad times, and it does make people anxious to see a prospect of losing something they devote time and energy towards.
that being said, i don't think all of the people asking how long are "whiny bitches", but just lack enough knowledge of the situation, don't have energies to type longer posts, or just want to settle their anxiety that part of the community is missing.
Any how i've enjoyed pat's creations from the days of clan pros. i've also appreciated the use of all the other facets of the 3rd party community (pgt, wgt, bwchart, lasgo's stuff, and pengu1ns, tl.net)
Thank you everyone who keeps bw fun and lively! I have no technical knowledge to help pat so i'll just say gl and thanks!

I would also like to know some sort of timeframe, so I know if its worth finding a clan to join or not in the time pgt is down, as I find it very anoying to spam channels looking for someone to play who might not even be any good.
I appreciate what pats doing, but he must have some idea of how long it is going to take? From his initial post I assumed it would be only a day or two, as he said it was completely under control. I guess I was wrong to assume that. However if the general public had some sort of reference as far as how much work is to be done, maybee they can hush up for a while, and who knows maybee even help out?

wtf is the general public going to do? besides, if he gave a time frame and for some reason didnt meet it, all you fags would go about whining again.
and dream-_-, im sure pat will keep in mind that he needs to give the public a deadline that he'll need to meet (or face the whining of the masses) just so that you know whether or not you should go through the difficult labors of finding a clan to join.

Whatever it is... Don't forget what Pat has already done for the BW community. Don't hail a saviour for putting in more than 10 seasons of hard work and slay him the moment something goes wrong. He had done more than what 100 of us have put together for BW.

Rule #1 of coding - New code will always create bugs with old code, whether you find them or not.
The point is what may seem on the surface to be an easy problem to fix can easily evolve into something much more difficult. Just be patient and understand that someone is working on it to the best of their ability, and be appreciative of that.

i'm a pgt admin, and i'm wondering the same thing. does that make me unappreciative and bratty? i've spent countless hours too, working for pgt for the love of the job. posting in a thread on another third party site that you'd like to know an ETA for uptime doesn't mean you're a whinger. if you thought for a moment WHY everyone is curious you might not get so huffy and defensive. we're all wanting the same thing here, pgt online. and most of us like yare said (great post there thanks yare), are a bit on edge as to whether or not this event which pat so cavalierly is handling will set pgt back months.. years.. or for good. nobody knows! hence why the many people wanting more information! communication is a good thing! even if pat said "shut up it's none of your beeswax", i'd say, thanks pat

your situation is different than his. as an admin who puts work into pgt, i wouldn't argue about your right to ask.
you left out the rest of my post, which quotes his reason for wanting to know. he wants pat to cater to his curiosity just so he knows whether or not to join a clan.

well about the rest of your post. wanting more communication on the matter isn't unreasonable. and essentially that's what the 'whinging masses' want, they just don't know how to ask nicely.
