"Mario Lemieux was absolutely god awful during the regular season."

Remember Lemieux's faceoff goal? That was some ridiculous shit
Edit: @kroko: That vid is great! I laughed my ass off during the finals at that guy.

As to the whole Gretzky scoring a lot because of his era, I certainly agree. This page has some good info on the topic of normalization for other era, but it isn't the best study.
For my money, Lemieux was better than Gretzky, and was the only player capable of approximating that "Michael Jordan-like" effect that TB pinned on Lecavalier.

i pray to god that nash doesnt get picked for team canada, my roster looks like this:
Forwards Duchene-Crosby-Stamkos (Giroux takes his spot if he's still injured) Sharp-Toews-Tavares Couture-Getzslaf-Perry Benn-Bergeron-St. Louis
(extras: Giroux + Ladd)
Defensemen Keith - Doughty Subban - Weber Bouwmeester - Pietrangelo
(extras: Vlasic + Seabrook)
Goalies Price Luongo Smith

I see a lot of lists with Mike Smith on them. I don't follow Phoenix, but is Mike Smith really the 3rd best goalie from this country? As far as I know, he had one good season a few years back and is now pretty average. But, like I said, I don't watch much Phoenix.
edit: On second thought, there aren't that many good goalies from Canada these days.

edit: On second thought, there aren't that many good goalies from Canada these days. Mike Smith is like Bryz. He plays in a crazy good system for goalies in Phoenix. Coach Tippett is really good with that.
edit: lol @ Lemieux being bad during the regular season. This guy didnt get the same treatment as Gretzky. He got abused on the ice early on in his career. Thats why he never played a full season. I guess smoking cigarettes in the dressing room didnt help either. But he played like half of his career with a busted back...
Lemieux was on another level. Almost Gretzky lvl.
''Lamprey'' that top 6 of yours is some kind of bs. And why Robinson over Ray Bourque??

Coming from the MasterCard Center of bad french.. umm i mean hockey mediocrity..ummm sorry i mean hockey excellence...
the hockey canada olympic team announcement.

and yet he is the greatest player of all time. Mario demonstrated just how meaningless a regular season is when 16 out of 21 teams make hte playoffs.

rick nash ...wtf fucking has been.
kunitz is overrated too
no msl obv...sucks
|
Hall puts up better numbers than Kunitz not playing with Sidney Crosby. I don't know what he did to piss off the hockey canada folks.

Yzerman has a great hockey mind. He has developed into a good manager and executive. This is his team.
I like the team Yzerman selected. Let's see if he can manage to get Canada to medal on the big ice. Canadians are at a particular disadvantage due to their development system being on 200X85. NCAA has some 200X100 rinks giving some USA players some exposure to the larger surface.

Robinson won a Conn Smythe. Bourque never did. A big reason why Montreal's finesse players had the room on the ice they did against teams like the Flyers ... was .. Larry Robinson.
Marcel Dionne quote : "Robinson was the first big man to control the game"
I pretty much agree with Dick Irvin and Marcel Dionne's assessment of Robinson.

edit: On second thought, there aren't that many good goalies from Canada these days. hahahahah noooooo. even fluery is probably better than him. smith sucks. now i pray for injuries to price and lu.
saw this on another forum and i agree: Hall over Kunitz, MSL over Nash, and Thornton/Giroux over Carter/Bergeron
no seabrook is kinda odd too, esp since stevie y and babcock have a boner for picking teammates even if the second teammate is dragged to the games (cough cough kunitz cough). subban better be playing and not sitting for hamuis or vlasic.
i also dont care much for marleau and think he can be replaced by any number of players. since hell probably play wing, they should have taken neal, even though he's a shithead.
also in snub news, hedmen was left off sweden
|
I agree with your subs, except I'd leave Bergeron over Thornton and either over Marleau.
I'd also pick Bernier over Smith.

yea thornton on a big ice surface would be pretty disastrous imo, not to mention that he was by far canadas worst player 4 years ago
i find it interesting that bobby ryan didnt make team usa due to his "lack of intensity" but rick nash was good enough to make team canada
|
"Tim and Sid" just fucking pwn.
they provided just an amazing analysis of today's hockey canada announcement
Le Bruins de Boston... ROFLMAO. and that Iron Sheik imitation was fucking brilliant.. move over Tony CLifton and Andy Kaufman
Corey 'Art, Glass Tiger... just fucking awesome.
Mike "Bad" ..."Cock" .
Fire Mcown now.

I can understand people being upset with the Nash pick, however I feel like he will make an impact on this team during the Olympics. But we'll see...

Eh, most of this criticism is minor quibbling. This Team Canada roster is still more talented than anything that any other country will be able to put together.
