You shouldn't aspire to having high APM. It should be something that comes to you as a biproduct of practice. Play at a speed you're comfortable with to maximize efficency.
Most people with high APM spend 50% or more of it on hotkeys, so to answer your question you can have faster APM by spamming them more. This may seem childish... probably because it is. Not to mention you're wasting time by doing it.
Asians have smaller penises than americans so they feel the need to compensate by spamming their hotkeys more. Kind of like how rednecks with small penises always drive the biggest trucks. Next time you play some 300+ korean on pgtour check his APM distribution. Don't feel intimidated

Think of the bos' you are used to do , now think of a kind of routine at least at the beginning , and then tell you 'what should I do next or now' and do it faster. Try not to separate unit management from macro except when you need to intense micro (my #1 failing and I'm certainly not the only one in that case). Last but not least : try to have the highest effective apm when you think you are 'dominating'/not engaged in a fight because 1) when under pressure I usually go faster whereas when 'dominating' some people, including me, have a tendency to slow down (10 effective apms 'lost' is already something), 2) if you're fast enough in these not-so-intense moments you'll be faster in the most important as a result me thinks. Shit theory but that is a kind of challenge to oneself that I think is not uninteresting.

Arg, haardly anyone should be playing for APM to "look cool". If you feel you're losing because of your apm, thats not whats happening. Your simple lack of any one or more of the basics will cause you to lose, APM is much less deciding factor than say your macro or micro. If you actually concentrate on playing solidly with al the basics in mind in every game, your apm will be forced to rise.
However, if you are not wanting more apm because of this reason, and simply because to look cool, then I can say IMO thats pretty pathetic.

I have no idea what my apm is but just find that sometimes I have 12 gatesways and can only keep half of them working, minerals are climbing while im trying to scout, defend and attack
Last night my interenet speed was a little down - giving me confidence that I could be as fast as I need to be- And I beat this korean dude that has a 50% win ration on the asian server >_<

Oh and what was really nice to watch is on affreca- the free Korean TV- is just some random person letting you watch thier game. And watching how thier mouse moves and all >_<

Here are 2 examples how I got really big APM. You will find them really usefull and will probably increase not only your APM, but your winning percentage a lot, too.
Example 1: I made a 4 pool and hotkeyed my hatch with 4 buttons and constantly pressed them. End result: WIN, 700+ APM.
Example 2: I made a 4 pool and kept Ctrl+1 pressed for the whole game. End result: WIN, 1500+ APM.

I just hit 300 tonight and dominated, and I didn't even use good strategies or good micro, hell even my macro was horrible

Original poster.. just always check gateways, expansions, observers etc and your APM will go up naturally.
