Concerning the whole Comey thing, I doubt that this will do Trump in but are they going to throw Sessions to the wolves?

He accidentally posted a screenshot of himself with a tab opened to a very specific hentai that has nothing to do with tentacle porn, and is now claiming he found it while trying (and impossibly somehow failing) to prove that tentacle porn exists to his wife.

Pretty funny gaffe tbh

The dude has moments like that. Another drama that involved him was people sending him strobe memes to trigger his epilepsy, and then he sued said people. He has an ego that can match Trump's, blow for blow, and he is also kind of delusional at times.

Long story short, he is a special breed of drama queen.

I find it much easier to write him off as an attention-seeking fool and move on though, simply because he's not our president, nor is he in any other prominent position of power.

He should've consulted Handel on the matter though, she has tentacles, tremendous tentacles even.

He used to be posted here often for his Trump-Russia "bombshells." Slowly but surely he's fallen out of favor as people realized that he's full of it though.

I don't really think knocking him for suing people who sent him epilepsy triggers is fair though. Thats actually pretty dangerous.

On its face, no. But he also made a drama out of it in how he bragged about the reports he made to the authorities, daring people to strobe him again.

Didn't he have a super sketchy story that had him paying a child porn site and being a high level admin for their site too? Or was that just fake news I didn't bother to suss out?

I wouldn't know; I don't really follow him. I did explicate a story about how obsessively he dogged a Sputnik reporter in a post way, way back. So this would not surprise me if true. Which, to be fair, is the best kind of fake news.

So just to bookend this Seth Abramson business, and like I suspected, it turns out that his citation to 18 USC 1512 was all wrong to begin with. The more applicable statute is this one:

Whoever, with intent to avoid, evade, prevent, or obstruct compliance, in whole or in part, with any civil investigative demand duly and properly made under the Antitrust Civil Process Act, willfully withholds, misrepresents, removes from any place, conceals, covers up, destroys, mutilates, alters, or by other means falsifies any documentary material, answers to written interrogatories, or oral testimony, which is the subject of such demand; or attempts to do so or solicits another to do so; or

Whoever corruptly, or by threats or force, or by any threatening letter or communication influences, obstructs, or impedes or endeavors to influence, obstruct, or impede the due and proper administration of the law under which any pending proceeding is being had before any department or agency of the United States, or the due and proper exercise of the power of inquiry under which any inquiry or investigation is being had by either House, or any committee of either House or any joint committee of the Congress—

Shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 5 years or, if the offense involves international or domestic terrorism (as defined in section 2331), imprisoned not more than 8 years, or both.

18 U.S. Code § 1505

Now, we still have the Constitutional authority issue to deal with, but Section 1505 provides a framework that at least makes sense. Regardless, do note that the word "corruptly" shows up as a necessary element here as well as in Section 1512.

During the course of the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server, former FBI director James Comey said he had a troubling exchange with then-attorney general Loretta Lynch.

During a meeting with Lynch, Comey said that the attorney general told him: “Don’t call it that (an investigation). Call it a matter. Just call it a matter.’’

Comey made the comment as part of his Thursday testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Well that at least gives some teeth to the idea that Lynch was in the tank for Clinton. No surprise.

I would say there's no chance this ever really goes to a "case" but Trump is stupid/oblivious enough that he would look at the golden parachute they would offer him and spit on it.

I said a while back that people were going to have a rude awakening when they realize whether the president commits a crime or not is only tangentially related to whether they can be impeached. All that matters is that there is a political will to impeach after taking a glance at the numbers it's extremely unlikely it would be politically viable before 2020.

Also that people would realize that what Trump is doing isn't unique because of the general premise, but because of how he goes about doing it.

Well that at least gives some teeth to the idea that Lynch was in the tank for Clinton. No surprise.

Also that people would realize that what Trump is doing isn't unique because of the general premise, but because of how he goes about doing it.

I'm not cynical enough to believe that if Trump committed a crime via Mueller's determination, that no one would impeach. That would be the end of the republican party, since they essentially didn't apply the law.

Didn't he have a super sketchy story that had him paying a child porn site and being a high level admin for their site too? Or was that just fake news I didn't bother to suss out?

Now, we still have the Constitutional authority issue to deal with, but Section 1505 provides a framework that at least makes sense. Regardless, do note that the word "corruptly" shows up as a necessary element here as well as in Section 1512.

corruptly - asks people to leave room before asking comey. Gives contradictory reasons for firing. unverified NYT report about meeting with russian ambassador.

Do you think Mueller is gonna build a case for this?

He can try, but it's going to be total weak sauce if he doesn't dig up more.

And the other thing to come out of today's hearing is that the underlying investigation into Flynn and Russia collusion was a load of horseshit to begin with. That will weigh against prosecution of Trump.

What Mueller will show is that Trump screwed up, but it wasn't as bad as the reports suggest and as such it won't be enough for an impeachment.

Let's say somehow Democrats retake the senate with 51, they still need 15 Republican Senators to openly oppose Trump. That's not politically viable now, nor will it be, short of Mueller demonstrating Trump is guilty of a much more serious crimes than obstructing an investigation.

Due to how they have built their power base there's just no way you get 15 senators openly voting against their president (unless they somehow put country above their political future... ha).

I have this feeling that Mueller and Comey are actually coordinating behind the scenes. They have an agenda, and will try to fuck Trump one way or another. It's not a noble thing to try to get revenge, but that's my conspiracy.

That story is more depressing for a billion reasons. Eichenwald seems like a good guy who tried to help, even if it went against journalist ethics. It sad that the end result is him becoming more and more paranoid and afraid.
