$2.5 million cannot sustain Proleague for more than a season. Not only do you have to feed and shelter at least a hundred pros, but you have to pay for the venue, the TV time, and all the production crew. Citing random indie games hardly backs your argument. The masses are what feed any hobby.
SC2's GSL is still bleeding money, and most LAN events now charge high admission fees just to recoup the loss if the sponsors can't cover all of it.

He is not looking for all that. He is just looking for a new (indie) game that could be as good as BW that would fit our niche group right now. As he said before, "Fuck the masses, we are in the realm of the niche now."
And I agree. The first important step before you even think about going to the masses is to create and inspire a core niche group.

BW will never "die" but going back to the old days is never gonna happen.

If some mod is willing to hold the money and forward them to tournament organizers - we could make the donations happen.

I would def make a donation!

whats about make a very solid bw scene first .its more realistic

The far simpler solution than kick starting a brand new game (which you kinda need some game developers that want to do this) would be if Blizzard released the source code so that BW could be modded. Overhaul the graphics (better resolution not change the actual style) and update the multiplayer connections so you don't need to do all this port forward nonsense. I can't remember, but there's been a couple examples of where the modding community has been able to breathe new life into old games simply by updating the graphics and making it work on modern computers.
But I doubt Blizzard would ever release their game into the hands of modders.
edit.
Oh and in an ideal world it could be digitally distributed through things like Steam as well with easy links to iCCup, Garena, Fish etc. But that's really a pipe dream.

Pretty much of changes and modding can be done without having source code. Most part of BroodWar data is accessible by hooking into memory except algorithms which is harder to get. And passing data into it's memory is not a big problem. Modding graphics (on the same engine) is even simpler. + Show Spoiler + But we don't need a brand new game, it is already a great game, and we don't need to touch it's internal engine or graphics.

Remember that E-sports is essentially a business.
Why would big corporations be interested in sponsoring a computer game tournament? It's only because they can advertise their products and us nerds who watch these computer game tournaments are their quintessential target audience.
if everyone stops watching sc2, and watches Bw instead then the answer to your question is Yes.
Is that likely? No.

We so need that, for 2 reason, first despite how good sc2 can become it will never reach the awesomeness of SCBW in all aspect, and second esport need legitimaly I mean its a 10 years++ sucessful esport game, why make a new one ? who want to make football v 2.0 ?
To answer the OP I think those 2 reason can revive SCBW, despite what online players say they play mostly for competition and recognition, and if they search a little they have high chance of finding SCBW at the highest spot of competitive play, so maybe as time pass those new pool of players will help revive SCBW, and this time it will be huge.

I still see many new pople joining for BW
there is a hope for sure
it is possible for this game to comeback with big boom, it is just too fun and too good.. simple as that..
I think we can do something as a community, cause Starcraft has indeed, the best game community ever

It doesn't need to be everyone tho. BW was successful in Korea with just Koreans watching. Kespa's sc2 transition isn't being successful. Ace isn't accepting new players/is disbanding. Team 8 has no sponsors and lost/are losing many players. Killer, Movie, Tyson are streaming BW now. Sea left for Liquid. Outside of Team 8, Firebathero and M18M also left. The subsidiary that owns Woonjin Stars is bankrupt. LOL is being a more popular game/esport. Conflicts with eSF.

progamers that keep playing bw out kespa and join sospa

I highly doubt that BW will be able to make a come back. The scene is not dead, there are still tournaments, but I'm not sure if it has the star-power (speaking about Korean Kespa) to come back. All of the players that we have grown to enjoy watching have switched over to SC2 and the viewers will follow their favorite players (no matter what game they are playing). Now, if those top-notch Kespa players were all to come back to BW, then I actually think there is a decent chance of BW coming back. But that probably won't happen. Even if a new generation of really good Flash/Jaedong/Bisu/etc. caliber players were to enter the scene, I still don't think that is enough. The reason, I have no idea who these new guys are and I like familiar faces. If anything, a new generation of BW players will attract the younger audience. The older audience will follow the players. But, of course, the younger audience is probably more attracted to something new, cool, and modern, like SC2. When I started watching professional BW in 2009 I never thought BW would be 2nd to anyone. Now it seems like BW isn't even 2nd or 3rd or 4th.... I'm sorry to say it but I don't think BW will be be making a come back (hoping that I'm wrong).

There would have to be a remake, but Blizzard would never sell the rights or make a BW2 that would be a direct competitor to any future Starcraft games they make.

That's honestly what I hoped SC2 was going to be, before it was released. But instead they decided to make a completely different game with only the same outside appearance. I think we all did. I don't even mind some of the UI improvements like MBS etc., but they straight up changed the fundamental gameplay and unit interactions. That's what really bothers me. Dota 2 is a perfect sequel to Dota. You get some minor engine improvements and slightly easier mechanics but the depth, hero interactions etc stay the same.

BW will be probably always be the game I remember as "the best computer game ever". I just think the OSL finals was a worthy end of all the good times we've had with the game. I won't look back at the game cause it would just make me sad, instead I'll hold on to the good memories and talk about great memories of the game. I think it's time to move on.

E: not really doubting it but still i'd like to see some figures on it.
