I come today to pose a question.
Should random players be reveled upon the loading screen?
I feel i don't get good practice against random players, and random players dont go in with good practice also. This is because each match up has totally different openings. The wrong one can result in a sever disadvantage. This makes faceing random players quite coin flippy. Most players gamble a opening or does a generic cheese.

The current system means that the random player is random until scouted.
I feel its great to give players an opportunity to be random, but random gives a unfair advantage against the opponent. If you could choose random then your race be showen at the load up screen, it would make the games more tasteful?

what do you guys think? Would this be a good addition to HOTS?

The entire point of random is to prevent your opponent from knowing what race you are. Sometimes random players will tell you what race they are, sometimes not.

Yep!

You have to consider that the random player has to know 3 races, that gives you an unfair advantage.

No, they should not be revealed. That's the only incentive to play random.

Point being? Even if that's the case, the point of random is you don't know until you scout. Just how it is

Hate to say it because i'm sure you mean there are no Random pro gamers, but if a Random player was playing ladder competitively, it can still be seen as competitive play....T_T

I do not count that as an incentive. I think people play random because they like all three races.

lol, scout more and you wont have to worry about losing to random players. I'm almost certain thats the reason why you made this thread. Random is considered random for a reason. The person playing random doesnt even know what race they have until the game starts so they have no idea what build to do until they spawn.

Picking random is intended to give you the advantage of unpredictability.

Actually, LgNWhisper is a Random GM player that plays competitively.

People who play random have this advantage, but need to learn all three races, which give them imo a clear disadvantage. So I disagree.

I don't think your opponent should see your race, kinda defeats the purpose of playing Random at that point.

I do wish I could see my own race in the loading screen though when I pick random. Especially in team games, it sucks not being able to plan strats with your allies on Skype during the loading screen.

Who cares? scout him first thing and get on with it. Just be more alert in early game..

Since being random player casually, i get ALOT of lower ppl whinging, whereas good/top players will have gg's with me....

That's not unfair at all, it's their choice. If they showed the race on load screen random players would still be at 50%, they just wouldn't get free wins and boost thier MMR because they're random.

Honestly, if this game were imbalanced, nothing bothers me more than playing against random. I usually instantly leave against random, as I find it pointless. Some people think they are mannered by telling you their race, but for every honest person, there's 3 people telling you the wrong race, thus it makes no difference: you still have to scout ridiculously early. Even if you scout them or get lucky with your chosen build order, random is imbalanced imo and you're now playing a player that really shouldn't have that high of an mmr. It's bad practice, every time, until at least 1 person plays random in a tournament.

You should love playing against randoms. It'll make you scout and react to it.

You're welcome for playing Random.

I play random. Most games I tell what race I am, as I feel bad for protoss having such drastically different openings for each different race. I'm fine with it as it is though tbh

The point of random is not to hide your race from the opponent, it is to play a randomly selected race from the 3 available ones...

I honestly think that the race you are playing should be revealed.
I'm a high masters Random player, and I tell my opponents what race I am at the start of every match.
If I don't tell them my race, I usually get 'cheesed' / 'all-inned' / etc. and then sworn at and BM'd when I hold it off.
I play random because I enjoy playing all 3 of the races.
There is still an advantage for random slightly in the competitive scene if it is revealed, because an opponent won't be able to prepare specifically for a match up against you, which allows for you to play a bit more unorthodox and get away with it.

They maybe can implement an option for the random player(Pre-emptivly checked before searching for games): They can choose to either reveal their race or not at the loading screen. I think that's the most we can do.
