Funny, Ignorant, or Bigoted?
Without going to intensive detail, I noticed, and it seemed others noticed that the casters of the restream of SPL Opening day have been making references to "lynching" and mentioned how they couldn't distinguish who a player was because "they are all Korean" and several other racial slights, slurs, and blatent disrespect.
Rather than try to go Professor X and trying to speculate on how people could be so ignorant or disrespectful I decided someone needed to say something and when I mentioned it in chat I got temp banned so I came here.
I understand we all have off nights and they are 12+ hours into casting but seriously we as a community can't allow people to feel comfortable using language like was being used during this cast.
If I am just being overly sensative I'd be willing to hear how what they have been saying is ok...
I understand when people grow up in a homogenous suburban semi-private school where there are little to no minorities and/or none of them are friends, they might think language like what was used during this Sayle/Pokebunny cast was ok.
Just so it is said when you are attempting to appeal to people who don't know you, language like that in my opinion is simply unacceptable. People don't know you, so they don't know if the racial epithets you toss about are jokes, serious, or a result of intense ignorance
|
You must be one of those people that go around mailing sponsors for everything that happens. If you don't like what they're saying don't watch.

Better grab earplugs and an umbrella before you head out.

Korean commentators call every good looking white guy at BW broadcasts Tom Cruise, too.

No I brought the issue to the community where they can watch the VODS later and decide for themselves if they weren't watching live.
If they wanted to apologize and/or explain why they say stuff like that I would accept their apology or explanation.
If the SC2/BW communtiy is cool with bigoted and racially charged sterotypes and comments because "words dont control us" or whatever the perspective is thats their perspective.
As for "earplugs..." I am not against their RIGHT to say it. I just think it is shamefull and should be shamed.

This is the greatest troll post of all time - GOD I LOVE IT - its like hotbids bad twin hahahahahahaha

there is nothing racist about not distinguishing koreans.
|
For what it's worth after about 20 people said somthing in chat they have significantly slowed down on the racial insensitivites
|
You should look up the definition of Controversy
|
BW community racist? We exclusively only watch Koreans lol...
|
Good joke thread.
A smart poke at oversensitivity in the SC2 community and our desire to "lynch" public figures.
|
There are 7 streams to chose from in the sidebar. If you're offended by how Sayle or Pokebunny act on their own personal stream, then by all means pick any of the other 5 available.

Jesus christ. I've had enough of these over sensitive people who feel offended by anything.
|
|
|
Some of the stuff they said made me cringe a little but they aren't professional casters. Quite simply, I'm not too broken up about it, nothing I heard them say made me want to straight up stop watching their stream.
The down syndrome shit earlier and some earlier jokes were unfunny regardless of whether or not they were offensive. Once again, they aren't professional casters.
|
God, some people are easily offended...
|
i walked away during the cast a few times, so I didnt actually hear anything bad. So I'm going to assume that there was a slight slip up here and there while I was afk. Do keep in mind that this is not a professional cast. If you do have an issue with them, PM them.
edit:

To say there's a controversy going on is a huge overstatement though.

Better call Sayle's sponsors.

Exactly! The BW community is clearly racist against every ethnicity aside from White and Korean.
I will be e-mailing Razer about this. This shan't go unnoticed!

if you're referring to sayle, I find all of his humor to be quite tasteful

I can't tell if you're serious or not... Either brilliant troll or awful vigilante :/
|
am i a racist because i cant tell whos who right now?
|
I think they have gotten the message tonight. The point is not to simply complain, the point is that professional or not it is BM to say the least to say a lot of the "jokes" they made tonight.
Considering the mass amounts of posts about "GG"ing I think casually making down syndrom jokes, and lynching jokes was worthy of discussion.
Obviously there are a lot of people who think not GGing is a bigger disrespect than making racially or blatently disrespectful statements and jokes.

We need to knock this crap off. YOU CHOOSE to watch someones stream if you dont like what they are saying mute the damn thing or close out of it. Just because someone says something offensive every once and while doesn't warrant a thread about it. I make jokes all the time and sometimes yes i might cross the line but most of the time it is just that a joke. Lets be serious here and stop makings stupid threads like these.

Can you tell us what they were saying specifically? People love to take things the wrong way, or more likely in your case, exaggerate them.

Fully support this.

You're being overly sensitive, if you were honestly asking for someone's opinion. As many people have pointed out on these forums, no one has the right to "not be offended".
If the casters wanted to spread racial hatred, they're really doing a terrible job. These guys (Sayle, etc) absolutely love racial diversity, if you ask me. Policing for word selection is an ineffective and ignorant way to fight racism. Try to replace the word "racism" with "racial hatred" and see if your argument still makes sense.
If there was any racial hatred involved, your post would make a lot more sense to me. I think there's a certain gird for drama involved here, where no drama existed to begin with.

Better ban sayle and call his sponsors now ! Seriously guys -_-
|
To the OP
Grow a pair of BALLS seriously, like WTF? like no really WTF? are you kidding me? If your gonna get so offended by players casting why dont you just shut it off or just mute it instead of making a thread about the things they say, use some common sense instead of posting stupid shit like this seriously. Sick of posters on Teamliquid that cant be mature enough with just learning to use some COMMON SENSE and just shutting off the stream or just picking another one or just MUTING.. but make a thread about something thats so senseless and RETARDED yeah you are over sensitive and its frustrating that people like you make THREADS on every LITTLE thing possible just because you feel lonely and want something to discuss about dont be bringing up idiotic topics.. like am i the only one who gets angered by DUMB people with stupid questions? Like WTF? seriously people on these boards are probably average of 20 yrs old but act like there 12 go watch Leagues of legends if your gonna cry about every little thing SC2 does like.......... SHIT quit trying to ruin the community with stupid ass threads like this one

BTW I never called anyone racist... So I wouldn't bother ascribing that belief to me.
It was definately PokeBunny who was making way worse comments. Sayle realizes when what might be funny to him and his friends might not be recieved the same way by people watching him or KESPA for the first time and self edits.
Pokebunny would just say somthing totally off color than just say im just kidding... Just doesn't work like that
|
don't like don't watch. Or post as constructive criticism that you would like to see in his stream post.

You dont provide any examples of what they said. How are people able to tell you if you're "overly sensative" or if that language is "simply unacceptable"?

What opening day casters? There's only a Korean broadcast.
|
Oh shut up, they are people streaming without gaining anything from it, they arent working for any organisation and no ones paying them to do it, so if you dont like it just mute them or choose another stream, people are allowed to say what they want when they're ''working for themselves''', its called freedom of speech

This too.
@OP, apart from whether you have a point or not, these aren't "the SPL opening day casters," they're just guys in the community restreaming with English commentary for our benefit. Also, "I find Pokebunny's humor distasteful" does not equal a "caster controversy" in my book.

Yeah lets ban every caster ( which by the way Pokebunny isnt) that uses a slur that may or may not refer to racism because 2 people or something get offended by it. Seems like a trend these days.

I'm closing this. We don't need more pointless drama, and this is about as pointless as the drama gets. The casters aren't official and the "racism" is very barely that. We don't need a new thread every time anyone on their private stream says something potentially offensive.
