Its seems like Halo guys are a little bit jealous. They were the center of MLG for a while, but then they just got completely overrun by starcraft.
|
To be honest the apology video seemed a lot worse than the original video. I get really tired of hearing "Halo players are more likely to have hobbies outside of gaming." It sounds really similar to me to the guy that you beat in a game who upon realizing he's lost says "I bet you're a fat nerd who plays all day and etc....". I don't give a crap about what IdrA does on his day off, or NaDa's secret modelling career outside of SC.
This apology video is less of an "apology" and more of a "we're not gonna apologize" video. Which makes it seems less like what may have started as a joke is now maybe just a little more of a middle finger to the SC2 community.
|
Everything they say is understandable. I'm just glad to be in the right community. I was with the sc community when it wasn't as popular. Everyone was for the most part respectful and kept to themselves.
Regardless, sc takes a much higher skill level to be professional, ergo the number of hours played by our pros, vs the halo pros and their apparent free time. I think every community have their trolls and shit talkers, but when it comes down to it, I believe sc has a more mature level of gamers(This is from my experience with both communities, and yeah they both have their immature folk).
What I got from this video is that the halo pros wished their community was as proactive and as productive as ours.

This is so epic. I was laughing the entire time.
This is supposed to be less serious than the first video, right? Literally everything they say, they take back in the next sentence.
Well played.

It's in some ways to be expected though. When you're a pro gamer and your game isn't getting the attention that it used to and is beginning to fall off while another bigger and greener giant rises in it's place with it's own set of delicious vegetables(players) that receive loads more attention (from sponsors and fans) than you are obviously going to be worried. Their future financially is at stake, as well as their ability to continue playing the game they love for a job.

Halo kids have to get their shots in, I mean they are completely made fun of in the genre relentlessly by the fans of games that actually take skill like Quake and Counter-strike, to the point where NOBODY takes these kids seriously. They are literally too stupid and ignorant to insult, they're an irrelevant branch of a bad game, on a console, who cares?
|
Lol the sc2 community... You boo @ Halo in MLG but when someone says something like this on an online show, you become ultra pissed
|
These people are absolutely the difference between our communities. Just listen to them.
-We in teamliquid get worried that the game is too easy. The halo players are bragging about how they don't have to spend that much time(their game is based on reaction time and some strategy that really doesn't change) and that they have other hobbies(which really is bullshit I don't believe sc2 pros have no lives).
-Quote "I'm not hating on the starcraft community. I'm just saying we dress better than yall." That is such a stupid statement, it's pure contradiction. What's the word? oxymoron. I mean, they're just on camera talking about how they may not be as popular but they are cooler than us. And then they try to justify it with "look, from our point of view we were at the top of mlg, and now we're not." It's just unintelligent people being unintelligent.
-they invent things about starcraft "if they say they're not nerds, they're wrong." We never said that. Then they say that we have no extra activities because we don't have time. Just.....go to hell, it's not even your place to talk about this.
-This reinforces my prejudice against the halo community and fps communities in general. It's like an evolution of the kind of people that jocks, bandos, and rappers would be if they were gamers. It's the kind of person I don't like to listen to. You know how people complain about casters saying one swear word? They swear all the time to the point of excess.
Edit found a post to sum up my opinion:

And just saying, Starcraft players are pretty fucking stylish. Just look at motherfucking NaDa, for one example.
And on the off-chance they hate SC2 and want it to die hard, it's their opinion and they're entitled to theirs. The majority of the community probably think it's sweet that MLG is getting huge numbers, and Halo is most likely not going anywhere.

I found a bunch of nerds calling other guys nerd funny. It was in jest at the SC2 community but they have one underlying point that is great to hear a pro on their side say. You don't have to practice much to be good at halo but you do for SC2. That says it all, one is a casual game for screwing around, one is a pro level game.
The other thing I found hilarious, they have "25 years" between the 3 of them in gaming. Well I can get with my budy and we have ...... 56 years of gaming between the two of us. I have over 28 year of gaming on my own. Yes though, they are soo experienced lol.
Ah, the current crop of kids in todays gaming world.
Long live SC2, RIP BW.

Agreed. I watched the first ten minutes and I can't discern any meaning at all from these eggheads. I would actually respect them more if they voiced a strong opinion instead of prefacing every comment with "I dont wanna hate on the sc community...but...but ..but..."
And to answer the question, yes I am prejudiced. I hate MOBA games, I hate WOW, actually I hate any MMORPG. I don't mind fps so much, some of the pc fps's do require skill, even if that skill is biased on the side of fast reactions and motor skills rather than tactical decision-making. But some of the dickheads who represent the fps community I feel give first person shooters a bad rep.
My biggest raging point though is the prejudice in society against gamers. Being put in the same stereotypical box as people who play facebook games and mmos enrages me to the point of breaking things. I am not some idiot bashing buttons all day, I play xanatu speed chess against humanity's best and brightest.
I love starcraft 2 because it requires more than just quick hands and lighting fast reflexes, it requires you to think. It makes you think hard based on the information you got, and rewards the cunning.
I am actually starting to dislike bw and sc1 though. The complaints about sc2 being inferior to bw are wearing thin for me. I know we don't have a bonjwa yet, but that doesn't make our game inferior. It's only been a year and a few months, the game is still young. The fact that there is no single dominant player in the sc2 community is a sign that our players as a whole are highly adaptive and that the winner will always be the player with the smartest builds and the better improvisation, not purely the person with the highest apm. Stop bitching about the elephant in the room; you are neglecting all the other animals and making Losiracat, Leenocktopus, Puma and MurloC et al sad.

It was a joke jesus christ you guys need to chill the fuck out.

Just watching the guys video you understand they are makin swagger jokes The apology is hilarous.
It was more fun that they said that they had underage drinking, pussy hunting etc. on MLG.

They brag about how they have to spend less time on their game and so they have more hobbies and wear better clothes/are cooler than starcraft 2. Starcraft 2 is highly strategic, way more so than rts games or fighting games. Are they worse? of course not. But yeah if they are gonna brag about free time then we can tell them their game requires no skill.

Why are three not too good looking, and poorly dressed, men harassing the fashion sense of Starcraft players? Even if, hypothetically, Starcraft players have poor fashion 'sense' it would still be like the pimple faced kid making fun of some guy who has back acne.

Yeah, these guys are remarkably inarticulate. One moment a guy says that he was making jokes to make a bigger serious point. Then the other guys says they were completely joking....then the third guy says that he wasn't joking and has resentment for SC2 people that shit on Halo... then the other guy says it's all a joke and out of context.

judging from the comments, I, and the many others here, should all watch the whole video. Apparently the OP forgot to tell us that beyond the first 10 minutes they actually respect us, kind of makes me think the OP either didn't watch all of it and just doesn't care or did watch all of it and is trolling us into hating them back.
I'm gonna have to watch it all and judge for myself, brb in an hour

Just wanted to point out that this is one of the most bollocks things to complain about a caster. Even though broadcasted casters are supposed to present a (mostly) family-friendly experience to the viewers because people of all ages watch SC2 I think it's absolutely ridiculous that swearing is considered bad form from a caster. Is it something that I think needs to be used to make good casting? Absolutely not. Is it something that makes a caster bad? Again, no.
I'm glad that our casts are presented in a way that is family-friendly because I think little Starcraft fans grow up to be big Starcraft fans and their exposure to the game is important, but if someone slips up or says hell/damn/shit/the very occassional fuck (I've heard it maybe twice from Tasteless in GSL) every now and again like Tasteless/Artosis then there is no reason to whine about it.

Choose some better examples. I don't consider fighting games to be from consoles. They will and forever stem from arcades. Heck everyone still plays with a fight stick to be the best.

Counter-Strike 1.5/1.6 defined eSports and coined the very term. Not only that, but Counter-Strike is arguably the all-time most dominant eSport game. Not so much anymore, but for many years it was at the top around the globe. To say something like you did, you obviously weren't involved in the CS scene.
