Since this whole topic degenerated into the usual balance flamefest where every topic ends up if unmoderated it's time for it to clean up. Locking this down for a while. Any posts made after my post [page 233] not addressing the changes in this patch directly and containting flames or general balance whine will get banned for at least a week. ~Nyovne

In reference to the NP nerf:

What I'm having a hard time with is the reasoning. When you look at August's stats, you see Protoss getting destroyed in both PvZ and PvT. When you see that, how can you then think "wow, we really need to nerf Zerg!". When I see that, I think there should be a buff to Protoss since they are struggling so badly in two matchups. It feels like Blizz is trying to make-up for the design flaws in Protoss (as pointed out in some recent TL threads) by fundamentally changing a Zerg spell-caster. This just doesn't even begin to help Protoss in PvT and unnecessarily buffs Thors in TvZ.

nope. everything I listed are viable composition to beat mech army. Terran didn't stop going pure mech because of neural. Well, its one of the reason, but other being that they did because too many composition that can rip them apart.

No mobility = can't setup third or fourth without getting base killed. No speed units for early pressure = 200 zerg before you even hit 130 supply. One mistakes = no time to replenish army = dead or behind severely. And late game Brood will just tear mech apart

I can't imagine they'll leave this change in for 1.4.

If they do I'd imagine it's to force zerg to make corruptors for anything other than making broodlords, which is silly because corruptors are awful.

That's what's terrible about the PTR. The people who should be testing these thing out (pros) have never even been on it. They spend their playing with the current game because it makes no sense to play a game that doesn't exist yet.

The real problem with pure mech builds was always an inability to assert map control. There are some mech transition builds that were popular seasons back in the GSL that might work now, where there's some bio pressure at the start but the composition becomes more and more mech as time goes along. Byun used that type of build, and I think Boxer used it once or twice as well.

very good change to np, this will certainly help with the current terran domination! blizzard really on top of things ! /sarcasm

i cannot believe this change makes it through, it's in the same category as the "fungal growth no longer affects air", just a very stupid change

the worst thing is that it seems blizzard isn't considering any other changes that would help the game in 1.4, which means waiting for at least 3 more months till something happens

I thought this, too, and it's a much better change, I agree. The Zerg player should still be able to move the NP'ed units around. Like a spider pulling in a pray to its doom. For non massive units they should still be able to shoot and use their abilities. I not sure about the mothership and its cloaking field.
Protoss win, Protoss OP. Terran win, Terran OP. Zerg win, Zerg OP. Less whine, more gg.

Yeah, no one understands this.
Terran dominating everywhere, every racial statistics points towards terran being op.
Yet the drastic game changing nerfs are always directed at protoss / zerg.

You've clearly never played zerg.

Try building, as fast as you can:
spawning pool -> lair -> infestation pit -> spire -> hive -> greater spire
(395s if you don't count spire build time since you're waiting on hive)
(costs: 1250min, 700gas)

before toss builds, as fast as he can:
gateway -> cybercore -> robo facility -> robo bay
(235s if built immediately in sequence)
(costs: 700min, 300gas)

Colossus: (75 seconds) cost: 300min, 200gas
Broodlord: (74 seconds) cost: 300min, 250gas


In other words, you're stuck with corruptors to beat colossi. No broodlords. Impossibly expensive until late game. Way too much time.

Same thing goes for ultras even with the build time buff. Zerg shouldn't have to tech to tier 3 just so it can beat other races' tier 2 units. Absolutely ridiculous.


Now you know why zergs LOVE infestors, and why NP is so important against massive tier 2 units.

Neural Parasite...might as well remove it from game. I can't imagine why any zerg would spend the resources for this upgrade to infest a marauder or immortal. Usually when you go in for NP's you lose half or more of your infestors, it will not be worth the trade off at all anymore unless some protoss does a immortal/stalker only build (which doesn't really exist as far as I'm aware). I can't imagine any other situation where it would be cost effective to NP some units.

That way Carriers, Battlecruisers, Mothership and Brood Lords could not be NP. The spell would still be good against Thors and Colossus but not on the giant air units.

+ It would also make sense regarding the game/lore. I have always thought it is kind of stupid that a small Infestor can NP a giant Mothership.

I don't understand the neural parasite change at all. When it is casted, the infestor is a sitting duck to anything that is moderately mobile. There's no point to use the spell at all it seems if this patch goes through, since colossus / thors will just roll right through zerg ground armies. I could settle for an energy cost increase, but this is just ridiculous, if a player lets their high tech units get ambushed by infestors, then they probably deserve to lose. Still I trust blizzard with this. If they realize its a bad idea not to have fungal growth hit air, then I'm sure they will realize how poor of an idea this seems, especially with counter-casters more than capable of defeating infestors.

i really hope that they meant massive units would be immune to fungal growth - that at least i can sort of understand. The only reason to NP a non-massive unit would be to maybe get an enemy caster unit or immortal (or a worker if you feel like being a jerk).

Why did Blizzard nerf neural parasite? I thought that spell was fine and that fungal was the problem. They should remove the neural nerf.
Would it be a good idea for khydarian amulet to come back (at least tweak it?) since terrans are using emps a lot more?

The Amount of biased comments and ignorance astounds me. It amazes me how so many players who do not even play at the highest level are able to give such arrogant opinions on balance and expect to know the reasoning behind balance changes made by Blizzard.

It's so sad to think that the amount of crying and whining may even possibly lead to both biased decisions and/or reverted changes made by Blizzard in order to satisfy whining gamers.

In my honest opinion, i think this patch is excellent, with no biased opinion. I'm also a GM zerg player. I hope Blizzard does not give in and make a mistake by reverting these changes just because of the amount of flaming and biased comments made in these types of forums...
