I've been curious lately about how if I say gg before my oppOnent it is taken as bm...

I simply think a match is good and I say gg when I is 100% (as in I have five bases and my opponent has no mining and I just defeated his army)

How is saying good game constitute as bad manners... If I say it then lose well i look like an idiot but if it really was gg I just don't get it(and I've never said it and lost, this isn't about saying gg prematurely but when the game is over for sure)

Its sort of like saying "you lose!"

its better for them to admit defeat before you tell them that they have lost. However close a game may be to over it is never over until your opponent leaves the game.

"gg" is not just "good game". It stands for good game, but how often is "laughing out loud" actually laughing out loud?

If it's a sincere GG, you might want to clarify it by actually saying something along the lines of, "GG, bro. Had fun."

Saying "gg" isn't saying "I think this was a good game." Saying "gg" is a means to surrender when you are defeated and it shows respect towards your opponent. It functions the same way as shaking hands with the other team after a sport match.

When you are winning and gg first, you are actually sending the message "GTFO"

Basically, an offensive gg is an ill-concieved way of impolitely telling your opponent to get out of the game, and will always be percieved as a pinnacle of smugness. Or to put it in other words, in stead of shaking your opponents virtual hand, you simply pat yourself on the back and tell said opponent how highly you think of yourself for achieveing this, alternatively how lowly you think of his/hers ability to play the game.

I always get mad when someone is destroying me and then says GG right before I do. It both feels like he's rubbing his win in my face, and also feels like he's deciding that I lost for me. I prefer to decide when I've lost, and I don't like when someone makes the decision for me. Not only is the opponent controlling the game, but he's even controlling your actions, by forcing you to say GG when he decides.

I understand that most of the time, people aren't being BM, and I try to stifle my anger and not do anything stupid. I've just listed the thoughts that come to mind when someone GG's "for me", but I often act as if they didn't do anything wrong, GG, and then leave.

and also, the only time it would be warranted is if you're opponent is intentionally stalling out the game, in which case you'd be better off asking politely first.

"gg" does not mean "it was a good game"

"gg" is like saying "good day" when making a formal exit. It would be rude to tell someone "bye" before they were ready to leave (as if rushing a guest out the door).

If you want to let your opponent know you thought it was actually a good game, say so (you're up 5 bases to 0 mining and just beat his army, you can afford to actually type "good game").

Or, it could simply mean: "I think this game is about to end. I want to thank you for playing well this game, before you leave." Too often the opponent would gg and leave, or simply leave, way too fast for that.

Sadly, everyone assumes rudeness nowadays, whatever you do - and that has become part of the unofficial code for gg.
