I'm quite pleased with how far we're getting. And this doesn't mean it's over, nor is a third world war going to happen because you say so.
Care to expand on exactly what you are 'quite pleased' with as far as where we are going?
Maybe I'm too economically focused with the way I view the world but I would love to hear what input you can give to back such a statement.
I just meant as mythology-loving primates, I take a more skeptical stance, so I'm not disappointed at this juncture.

A friend of mine is going into the army next month and had zero knowledge of what has been happening in these Korean conflicts. So I told him about it all, and a lot of the propaganda, he was wildly surprised and looked kind of worried.
I hope nothing happens, but eventually something is going to have to happen with N. Korea. I just hope the innocent people of both country's don't suffer to much. Even though N. Korea's innocent suffer more then they should already.
WWII at least each side had a rather sizable military might. China would most likely do nothing, which means that it would be US+SK+ a few other countries vs NK if a war broke out. The trouble is that NK may have nuclear weaponry and judging by their values and beliefs, do not worry about the consequences of deploying them.
i.e. NK is so "spoiled" (hey, even China says so) that they are trying to see how close to a war they can go before...well... they actually get into war.

Ok, I've got to admit that this was hilarious.
There's several youtube videos on a similar technology but it's ground based and can switch targets fairly quickly ( calculates trajectory and finds them )

Think about it historically. In the past any time the North did something rash what happened? The US and South Korea appeased them, sent in food aid or fuel (which was diverted to the government), all in the name of defusing the situation. The North kept up this pattern for years and all was kosher.
Now the US and ROK governments are basically saying "go fuck yourself" whenever NK comes calling. As a result they do something even more rash and confrontational, repeat ad nausium until you reach a point where either concession or military retaliation is inevitable. Problem is bombing the North isn't going to do anything. Kim Jong-il and his cadres don't give a damn about their people's lives, and they have enough artillery pointed at Seoul to do great damage to the city.
KJI is playing a dangerous game here. Three things can happen, two of which are bad for him. Right now the average NK citizen isn't exactly praising his leadership, and the more time goes on the greater the resistance will become. If further provocation causes the US/ROK to yield and appease the North, it's a long term loss for them. Sure the party gets propped up a while longer, but the average citizen will see none of it.
On the other hand the KPA could underestimate their adversaries and provoke a full on theater war. Considering they still use equipment the Soviet Union discarded long ago this won't end well for them. This also limits their ability to damage Seoul, as full scale warfare will involve many air raids, and with the use of stealth aircraft most of the arty can be taken out. Many lives will be lost, it's a no win scenario, but the North loses way worse in a full scale war.
Where the North wins is in the event of a limited war. Think along the lines of the Israeli attacks a few years back. Such a war will probably involve air campaigns with limited to no ground invasion (boots on the ground in NK, especially American ones, will almost certainly provoke a full war). Militarily it will be meaningless, but it will be a massive propaganda victory. KJI will finally have proof positive that the US imperialist warmongering pig-dogs and the south Korean puppets seek to destroy the glorious fatherland (worst, KNCA impression, ever). Much of the dissent seen within the military and privileged of the North will vanish. The effects on the unlucky majority who can't eat, that cannot be predicted.
To sum up:
I think this is mostly bluster, and pray they don't do anything stupid. Two consecutive attacks would indicate a suicidal level of aggression, which is not really KJI's style. Unless he is losing control of the military, I suspect nothing will come of this. If, God forbid, KJI has lost control of the army then anything is on the table.

I have severe disdain for the ethnocentric viewpoints of the West. North Korea is forced to have a strong military due to continued western efforts to spread its capitalistic seed of corruption through the world.
Western and Korean media in this news story's case simply mold the stories to their liking to incite public opinion so it is hard to say what is really happening between North and South Korea.
It is important to note that American Capitalist corruption runs deep in the world and it seems as if North Korea is one of the few bastions of socialism. Yes, North Korea is not perfect, but their cause is noble and one must respect that.
They have always said they regard the waters around these islands their territory. Can we please keep it to the existing NK thread and not make a new one for every press statement from these clowns.
