Ok I know this has been discussed a lot. (Sorry I'm new here) I'm a silver 2 (almost gold damnit) 1v1 league player. I just really needed some help on this. I'm so sick of being owned by terrans who barely even try and just spam marines marauders thors and medivacs. Maybe there's something I should have done or something I'm forgetting.
So I was having this match right? And I scout my opponent and sees hes massing up marauders with a handful of marines, a few thors, and around 3-5 medivacs. So I thought to myself.....wtf could I do? So I recalled what's good against what in the help section and stock knowledge. Roaches!: Marauders would gun them down. Hydras!: What could they do? Banelings!: So they can dent the thors and throw some hot water on those marauders? (which eventually would be healed by medivacs) Mutalisks!: would be gunned down by thors and marines. (with the help of medivacs) Infestors!: They would die the moment they came out of burrow. Fungal growth won't really do much on those marauders because they would just be healed in a while. Corruptors!:...yea. Brood Lords!: The game was still pretty early, and those dudes take too long to make and cost too much for that time. Ultralisks!: Same problem as BL's but would get raped by marauders too. So I thought "well i have a lot of minerals" Zerglings!: help section says that lings are good against marauders and thors. So I massed them up, gave them speed and adrenal gland upgrade. I had around 80 burrowed. The dude had around 15 marines, 20 marauders, 2 thors, and 4 medivacs. They walked right over my zerglings and BAM(unborrow). I expected to thin the herd enough for my mutalisks to kill the survivors. But I guess not, I was glad to see that with 80 zerglings I managed to kill 2 marines........
I know I may sound a bit whiney, i apologize but I'm really frustrated. I've been playing for over a month now and I still feel that terran is really very overpowered and too versatile. I know you guys are gonna ask for the replay so I'll upload it as soon as I can and as soon as I figure out how to coz I gotta go to bed. Advice would be much appreciated, maybe some insight too. I accept criticism but please be polite.

Seeing as you are silver, you are clearly not in a position to comment on game balance. Instead you should focus on improving your own play.
Also watch the GSL finals for some Zerg v Terran ownage.

The answer is you are in silver and you need to improve every aspect of your gameplay. I know it sounds ugly but that's the way it is. There are a thousand small details lower league players needs to improve to reach a point where unit composition, position and tactics actually matter.
Macro better, refine your BO, don't idle your workers, maximize mining time, position OL's, spread creep, sac OL to scout, poke with lings at his ramp, saturate your expos, don't grab 2ndgastooearlyunlessyou1basemutadontoverproduceunitsadjustyourBOtohistech-----
The simple answer to your question; against the army you fought, muta/ling/bling. If it dosn't work you simply did something wrong.

i'm really really really bad, and i'm 400 diamond. only played about 50 1v1 matches since release.
just so you know, anything lower than like 1000 diamond is really low level... where you can basically win by macro and a-moving your army into the opponents base.
btw, massing a single unit is terrible against a balanced mix of units. a decent amount of lings, banelings and roaches would have worked fine. reason = too many lings mean that they can't deal damage because they're not able to get in range, they soak damage. then your roaches can soak and dps from range, then the banelings are your main strike which should soften up any clumped group of units (whether light or not).

80 lings is nothing compared to that army, no offense. but that feels like you were way out macro'd. did he harrass you or was he turtling up his death army? 40 food vs 75 food really isn't an even fight. ultralisk infestor zergling kind of destroys that composition. the second you don't get harrassed try getting a lair and going for infestors. fungal growth when controlled properly can hold off alot of pushes with just 2-3 infestors, and zerglings. alternately a strategy i've been dying to practice is a counter baneling bust. that is you just have 20ish lings hidden by his base when he moves out send in 5 banes and 15 lings and attack him, he has to go back or die usually. did you get upgrades? because upgraded lings are crazy. positioning also plays huge into zergs army, burrow is okay when catching untisin transit (a line) but terrible vs a ball, you need to use proper positioning with your army more than anything in fights. try to incorporate more macro bases tactics, tech up quickly when you can get away with it and use your fungals and positioning.

there is no IMBA at silver league except maybe cheese because no silver leaguers know how to deal with cheese.
all in all it sounds like you scouted far too late and got out macro'd by a large margin. your opponent was probably much better than you.

Also you're in silver ... you're really not in a place to question balance.

To emphasize what the above posters said: Make yourself clear with what kind of army you were fighting his army:
He had 15 mariens = 15 supply, 20 marauders = 40 supply, 2 thors = 12 supply, 4 medivacs = 8 supply. This adds up to a 75 supply fighting army. Your 80 zerglings are just worth 40 supply. Counting the mutas u mentioned it might be fair to assume that u maybe had a 60 supply army at best. But that is still a 15 supply difference. Since you made so many zerglings I bet your drone count suffered a lot too.
So don't worry about unit composition but rather think about: Why does my opponent have a huger and stronger army?
I really recommend a.) watching replays and b.) watching Day9 http://day9tv.blip.tv/
This will help you a lot to understand and improve your gameplay.

Whats funny is I have 700 latency becuase of being stationed in cuba and playing off the US server, I have been as high as 1300 diamond just macroing the right units and basically doing very minimal micro. Becuase lets face it with 700 latency you can't dodge psistorm you can't really stim/kite zealots effectively. Nor can you really respond to mineral line harass as quickly as you would like. Can you imagine how nice it will be for me when I get back to having 50 latency? So sadly what people say about 1000 or so diamond is highly accurate people are still doing 1 base allin's and just macroing better then the next guy.

IF Terran is OP, it's not significant enough for someone in the silver leagues to even begin to notice.
The first thing you need to learn about fighting Terrans is that you don't want to engage their army head on until you get your hive tech in play.
Sometimes its going to be inevitable that you clash, but when he's walking across the maps with Thors, its pretty safe to assume that he's pretty immobile.
Instead of burrowing 80 lings, how much damage do you think you could have done if you attacked his main as soon as he got out of range of his ramp?
What if you dropped him when he pushed out?
What if you planted a Nydus in the back of his base as his units were coming down his ramp?
As a Zerg player, you have to learn how to abuse your mobility. Attack where he isn't. Pick away at him little by little, until, eventually, you have your God-mode hive tech units, and he's too spread out from defending everywhere to muster enough of a defense to stop them.

Thanks guys, great advice. Although I do find it annoying that you keep criticizing the silver league and I don't think you can really judge me accurately for that, I do see where you're coming from though. The imba comment is just a personal opinion. Til next time!
