The three most popular are:
-Palm Grip -Claw Grip -Finger-Tip Grip
Razer apparentley has an explanation of all 3, so if you don't know the grip you use: http://www2.razerzone.com/MouseGuide/html/advantages.php
Anything else you'd like to add such as which grip you feel is strongest for RTS, which mouses are best for which style of grip, or reasons why you use that specific grip are all welcomed.
Just curious to what most people are using in this game

Claw grip allows for less wrist friction and motion on the mousing surface, I find that it is more conducive to prolonged sessions free from discomfort. Also, Day uses it.
|
Claw grip feels somewhat more accurate to me. I'm sure different people will have different opinions.
|
i use the palm grip, simply because it is best for long sessions as your hand doesnt get tired as quickly but also because i use a razer naga and it doesnt really allow for anything else. it's super comfortable but if i switch back to my G5 i'll probably go back to claw grip.
|
finger-tip (tbh I don't play this game, it's what I use for everything), but accidentally voted claw

Claw grip with a smaller mouse(i have a G9) is so nice, i feel like i have much more control over the mouse than with other grips.

i use a palm grip with my ime 3.0

anyone else have MX518? what sensitivity % and dpi do you guys have your mice set to in sc2?
|
i can't go up and down with palm grip
how do you do it? do you move your arm?
this has been bugging me for so long.
i feel as if the claw grip gives me the most control and precision, and i use it with the g9 which is a medium-smaller sized mouse. palm grip sounds good for maybe fps but for quick and precise movements the claw grip fits me more
|
I'm pretty much forced into finger-tip because of my setup.
|
Lmao how can you move easily with Palm Grip? Finger tip grip is mobile and easy! EDIT: Nothing against the Claw Grip, I feel fingertip and claw are the most common, Palm is more for people new to using the computer.
|
i guess im closest to claw... but i use the right side of my palm as a sixth contact
like right under where the knuckle of your pinky would be
so claw? i guess?

APM Boosting is so much easier with finger tip grip.

I use a combination of palm and claw grip my fingers naturally curl back a bit on the mouse buttons when I'm moving the mouse around and use my fingers to get precise little control of the mouse while using my wrist for more broader movements. It just kind of happened naturally due to years of playing on a mouse.
|
I have my sensitivity up fairly high so I generally move the mouse purely with my thumb, ring and pinky while my wrist is planted on the desk. I think thats closest to finger tip?
|
Claw. I hold my mouse almost like you would hold a baseball. I have medium size hands I'd say (I can palm a basketball).
I never found ergonomic mice and palm grip to be comfortable for anything gaming related. Have always used ambidextrous mice like mx300, ms wheel mouse optical, ect.
I mainly see top RTS and FPS players using claw and fingertip grips, however there are plenty of palmers out there too and it really does just come down to what your are comfy with.
|
Palm grip is the only one that feels natural to me, although I do feel it has some restrictions in the up/down movement. I have been thinking about compensating that with different sensitivities on the X and Y axis, but haven't tried how it feels yet.
|
palm and claw grips are reminiscent of 400dpi mouses in fpp shooters, btw, you move your whole arm with claw grip just hold mouse differently from palm grip, its not explained clearly on razer page so anyone who has their wrist planted is using fingertip grip
fingertip with pinky on pad for me

i just use my thumb pinky and ring finger and just pull in to go down and push out to go up.

I use the finger-tip grip. But my new Logitech mouse is turning me into a palm gripper ever so slowly.

(i'm a noob if it comes to hardware) I use the fingertip grip I'm curious tho- I've had my whole arm (almost up to the elbow) on my desk when gaming, never had complains about pains or anything. Watching all this pro-gaming Everyone has just their wrists on the desk, is this simply better for your arms/wrists/hands or does it allow to be more accurate/faster?

Yeah I'm guessing I'm the same (well, minus the pinky thing... that just feels weird) after puzzling over the diagrams on Razer's site a bunch. I keep my wrist planted pretty solid on my wrist pad and just sort of shove the mouse around with my fingertips.

I use the fingertip grip. It's the most comfortable for me. I wasn't even aware that you could hold the mouse in other ways. :|
Razer states that it causes the most fatigue, but I have never experience any fatigue in my mouse hand. Probably has something to do with playing FPS practically since I was born, and that probably also explains my rough and tough hands. Everyone that has ever held hands with me complained about them.

Finger-Tip Grip and mouse is Salmosa... 1800dpi and 1000hz
|
Started off with the claw grip but I've gradually worked down to a, for me, more comfortable fingertip grip.
|
I use claw, simply because my mouse is too small to do otherwise. Which Razer mouse best lets you swap between them, out of curiousity ? I'm thinking of getting a new mouse and most of my friends use Razer...
|
I'm finding it hard to determine where finger-tip grip and claw-grip end/begin
do you have contact with the palm in claw grip?

Regardless of what mouse you own, you should pretty much always have your DPI at it's max setting in order to fully utilize the precision that a high DPI offers.
If you lower your DPI rather than simply lowering sensitivity you're essentially lowering the accuracy of your mouse rather than just lowering the sensitivity like it may feel. Really as far as in game sensitivity goes, it's all preference. Slower is never really better than faster and vice versa. If you change your sensitivity and find you suddenly play better then stick with that, it's really all about personal preference. Just experiment.
Also as a side note, don't lower or raise your sensitivity through windows, keep it at the default (the 6th notch) as raising/lowering it will force your mouse to skip pixels regardless of what DPI you're using and ruin and hardware advantage you gain from owning a 1600 DPI mouse.
If you're really interested in optimizing your mouse to get the best performance possible out of it you should take a look at this guide. It was intended to help CS:S players since FPS games rely so much on mouse accuracy, but there's no reason why an RTS player can't make use of this guide.
