From http://www.wcg2007.nl/ :
De Nederlandse WCG games zijn…
Zoals beloofd presenteren wij hierbij de games voor de Nederlandse voorrondes van de World Cyber Games 2008! De games waarvoor Nederlandse spelers afgestuurd gaan worden naar Keulen zijn:
PC
Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath FIFA 08 Need for Speed Prostreet Starcraft: Brood War Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne Xbox 360
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

The Dutch WCG games are...
As promised we present the games for the Dutch preliminairies of the World Cyber Games 2008! The games in which Dutch players will be sent to Cologne are:
PC Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath FIFA 08 Need for Speed Prostreet Starcraft: Brood War Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne
Xbox 360 Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (LOL what?) Halo 3 Project Gotham Racing 4 Virtua Fighter 5
Never before has the Dutch team sent players for that many games! For the first time ever the WCG Netherlands will send more than 1 player per game with the aid of wildcards. A week after the final a commission existing of a few independant eSports knowhows will decide which runner-up deserves a wildcard. The wildcard will be decided by a few factors. Ranking, chance of success, talent, accomplishment in the prelims and the final etc. The reason we give the wildcards after the final is to make sure players aren't certain yet of their spot and resulting in not really trying in the final. If it's known before the final, the final match would become redundant and we would like to keep the show exciting. A ticket for the WCG has to be earned!
The world finals of the World Cyber Games will be held from the 5th till the 9th of November in Cologne, Germany.

No surprises, Netherlands is literally next door to Germany anyway.
GL to ret, Twisted, Naz and any others trying to win.

I'm probably going to compete just for fun if it isn't too much of a hassle. And of course to show that SC is their biggest and most popular title.

Btw I can't believe WCG 2004 in SF is 3,5 years ago :|
My profile pic is of WCG 2004 lol.

It will be interesting to go watch the finals this year then. Good luck to everyone trying to qualify.
|
Haha I guess it's not hard to find sponsors when the trip to the wcg finals is so cheap this year.
Good luck to who will take it, though we probably all know it's gonna be ret.

I hope we get a lot of attendants. Tournaments are way more fun when there's more than 4 people attending!
|
Geh. I feel like this is stupid coming just now. Netherlands gaming was at its highest years ago. Since then, the top gamers have been mostly inactive.
|
Ohohoh nice^^ veel geluk wi, en veel plezier ook natuurlijk Geef ons maar een paar mooie games.

On a more related note, this is great news. Can't wait to see Nazgul play.

Due to WCG being so close to european countries, they begin listing SC:BW again. Let's hope Belgium does the same, else I'll have to go qualify in Holland.

I just hope our poll wasn't in vain, and Hungary will have SC again too.
Heel lief kusje to all of you dutchmen.
P.s.: I remember 2004 all too well, Twisted, I got lucky and nailed you 2-1 on PGT! (bragbragbrag)

Cette liste n'est pas la liste officielle des disciplines qui seront retenues pour la France. Cette dernière vous sera communiquée dans quelques semaines.
=> not the official list for france, just the whole list. we won't get the same luck as ndl T_T
|
PuertoRican obviously can't read French. The site says that those are the games for the international WCG Grand Finals and that the French WCG games will be announced soon...

It is about fucking time. They have too many great players to not have a wcg. Twisted, Ret, Nazgul, Strafe and their young guns are gonna make this really really nice.
Personally, I liked it when they just did a nordic championship so players like Eriador, Trek, Haypro etc were all competing with the likes of Clawson, Aqrash, Napolean etc.

Only reason we're getting WCG is probably because Cologne is like 60 kilometers from the Dutch/German border ;o

inc nordic wcg was actually separated by country so eriador only competed with slayer, erling, stinger fury etc and trek with daaman etc and clawson with totovvi etc
|
How many slots ? 1 ?
|
If there`s only 1 spot, you could do the same as Draco last year and pay it by yourself. A Trip tp Cologne from the Netherlands shouldn`t be that expensive.
|
Just hitchhike there if you must and sleep somewhere for free.
|
Norway28784 Posts
you could prolly bike to cologne and sleep in a tent
hm this year i guess it's possible that I can show regardless of whether norway has wcg
|
It Dutch has it maybe Norway and other Nordic countries will surprise us and put BW back in WCG too

We (nazgul, strafe, tuig and me) all did for WCG 2004 in San Francisco. However that was under a different organisation. This organisation is under the belief that only the best Dutch player should be allowed to compete in the world finals so they only send one per game. However they do give out wildcards to other people based on talent etc. but I think they only give out one or so to all the second place finishers which probably won't be SC but probably some Xbox game or War3 (since in those games we have some pretty strong players).
I will still come to Cologne regardless if I qualify or not though .

They specifically are saying that they'll give out wildcards after one week on the website to the losing finalists that *earn* it, so they're pretty vague about it.

WOOT !!! Gonna own ret ezzzy !
|
|
|
If only Sweden would do the same =[. What a great inspiration to play that would be :O
|
oh so cool!!
ik ga zooooo naaaaar WCG!
|
Nice, I hope we get as much foreign talent as possible. If this is the last year for BW, lets make it a good one.
|
The Dutch could pretty much supply about 6 WCG nations worth of talented BW players.
|
going to WCG finals has been fun! It's basically the only fun event for non Korean bw players;(
Gl to everyone competing
|
i wish there were 2 or 3 spots I'd probably practice hard to secure a place at the finals, but with 1 spot it feels like a potential waste of time to practice and battling it out with ret (and a possible trained twisted/strafe)

They suck, the Dutch preliminaries are at the 12th of July. I'll be in Spain from the 5th till the 19th. I guess they don't recognize the fact that half of Holland goes on vacation in July.
GG WCG.
