The series is currently tied 1-1, with KT Rolster winning the first game 4-1, and STX winning the second game 4-0. The third match today will decide who will move on to Playoffs Round 2.
KT Rolster wins 4-2 and advances to the next round! Well played and good luck!
I want to vent a bit here, so I will. I just got reminded a bit about Perfume - Story of a Murderer and checked it's rating on IMDB. 7,5? An unlikable dude emos his way through 2 hours of film, escapes justice, offs himself and it gets a 7,5? I do think the acting, cinematography and visuals were great, but it's entirely undeserving of 7,5. Then again, so is Transformers 3, which was 7,7 a week ago. :S. And no, movie, an orgy does not justify a murder of 12 innocents! I am disgusted.
I might be fickle, but this man is my hero. I'd love to be the obscure knowledge guy in my circle of friends, and the "highbrow aesthetic" that seems to be rather uncommon in Estonia feels right up my alley. Still, it was a funny comic, and it allowed me to watch the thing from a different light.
The Russian Presidential Election is coming closer, and I actually half way expected the entire media to be filled with news of it. I've heard lots of interesting but differing opinions about it, but I doubt much will change either way. What makes this belief even worse is that the general Russian public agrees with me. :S What presidential elections in Russia usually mean for Estonia is that lots of politicians start taking potshots at us, sometimes even mentioning war as punishment for the "discrimination" ethnic Russians "suffer" here. Obviously, this sells both sides of the border and it'll be stupidly tense again, barring any sort of progress in diplomacy. I sure as hell hope they won't start yet another war to distract the public from the troubles at home, the one in Georgia was bad enough.
Positive news again! Estonian restaurants are in my opinion getting a lot better these days. If I had any sort of money and didn't spend my nights making stupid LR thread, I'd likely visit them more often. Thankfully I was dragged into and "old Estonian rural" type of restaurant place. While the atmosphere was horrible (Estonian covers of old bad pop songs and drinking songs, in addition to a mix of straw roofs and a completely out of place fountain), the food had vastly improved from the last time I'd been there. If any of you ever visit Tartu, I'll show you what I mean.
Now, either to watch Narc or Rambo. Haven't seen either of these yet, but I feel as if I have to balance out the wimpy idiocy of Perfume with some macho idiocy like Rambo. Also watched "Predators" and "Paranormal Activity 2" recently, enjoyed both despite a few obvious flaws. Morpheus with Predators? Awesome. Or I could go to sleep and NOT be tired while I watch the games.I'll think about it.
(unplayed games will be given random description to avoid spoilers). + Show Spoiler +
A player gets an advantage and holds it all game long. Good micro in places, abysmal micro in others. Also, it's a ZvZ, so it's likely not many a persons cup of tea. + Show Spoiler +
I'll just end this easter egg section today by posting this picture and stating that Calm is one handsome S.O.B. God, I'm such a fanboy. -.-
Alright STX, let's wrap up and take down Flash and those other guys.
Dream matchups: Bogus > Flash Reach > Tossgirl Clam > anyone (yes, Clam can win against terribad opponents, resulting in epic, jaehoon-esque victories) and some other things for a 4-3 STX Victory
Flash should really have taken the rest he needed, since i believe doctors know better anyway. It is highly unlikely that his team in its current form (+his own current form) will stand much chance vs the upper echelon teams. Winning a game or two in the playoffs doesnt matter if u cant take it all, better to rest imo. An STX win will directly result in a resting Flash so im good w that :3
I want KT to win. Then advance again, then beat CJ, then Violet does an epic comeback in the team and wins a game in the Grand Finals. SKT still takes it though.

exactly.Don't play flash until you are up 3-0 or down 0-3.
If the doctors were okay with him practicing one-third as much as he used to (I'm assuming they are), I'm sure one extra game isn't going to be a huge deal.
Calm wins. But don't worry, this is just the first step of our elaborate "let them get ahead so their eventual loss will be even more painful" strategy
On July 12 2011 18:19 a7choi wrote: what happened?! how'd he lose everything if he was ahead??
He wasn't THAT far ahead but he basically flew head first into a much of scourge? Haha. Best way to describe it. I think he thought Calm had nothing but mutas in his natural and just darted in without paying attention...
I can't believe I'm at my customer's right now and missing D-Web. Fuck that, it's so rare, last time I saw dragoon corsair play was at STX Masters in Shanghai where Lx humiliated Tossgirl :/ Well Shuttle was there when Tossgirl got destroyed, so that may have inspired him. But Flash is no Tossgirl, play-offs day 3 is no STX Masters...
Though I just realized how scary flash is this game: After losing one game vs a 3 base carrier he made the near perfect counter, remember those vultures who sniped the probe for a fourth? I tell you it wasnt random that he sent them there
Shuttle attempts to clean Flash push again with Dweb, this time more successful because it was mostly tanks, but reinforcements come in time and shuttles force is dwindling
So THAT'S why he was grinning. lol. He had that up is sleeve. if the first battle went his way, mainly the storms that SHOULD have happened, that game would have been a completely different story.
Ugh. Scary game for a Flash fan. Glad that the dweb strat failed or that game would have been talked about for AGES :O. Rightfully so. That would have been so sick.
On July 12 2011 18:46 Holgerius wrote: ''Please let it be Flash!''
He said one of the reasons he wanted to play was because even if he loses, it would be understandable. So yeah, I'm pretty sure he still doesn't regret playing Flash.
Why the heck would he go dweb-goon though? Did he actually think it'd work against Flash? Did he expect a very dropship heavy style by flash? I just don't get it. Free win for flash. Unsiege and pew pew.

Wrong match-up to build corsairs, shuttle.
i think that's why flash looked so pissed off after that game. looked really insulted xD

This build looks tailor-made for Kal. Maybe they'll try it again in the ace? Haha.

More like...storms at all, was only one after all. And as I already said, the execution was poor. I also think the strat could have worked.
That drop didn't do enough damage. Shuttle stormed once during the big fight, if his 3-4 templars that were just standing in front of the tanks had used their storms I think he would have won.

I'd be too if I were Flash. This isn't a show match. You'd have to be impressed with Shuttle's temerity to even think about trying it out though. Especially since it's Flash and such important game. If STX loses I'd be mad at him if I were an stx fan.

Mindgames probably. His build looked very similar to that of their last game, except he made corsairs instead of carriers. I think he was expecting Flash to build a ton of goliaths but Flash just decided to have lots of tanks and push out before he could get too many carriers.
The storms didn't happen. That was all there was to it. If he had stormed more then just once in that engagement, I think the game would have been different. Maybe an Arbiter in his army or two, would have been just crazy.
On July 12 2011 18:50 Lightwip wrote: That cost about as much as a carrier strategy with no real benefits. Either arbiters or carriers would've done much better here.
Dunno seemed like it was quite a bit cheaper in the short run but maybe worse in the long run because you need energy. Like I said before, the idea was really good. It's just it wasn't executed too well (can't blame him for all he has to micro).

a well conceived theory should prove applicable in practice. The only thing that gets in the way is whether someone can put the theory into practice as they planned it. Most of the time your abilty gets in the way. Did you see the stacked d-webs? also templars not storming. Im sure he planned it out so they he would not d-web stack and the storms would go off.

He had 8 corsairs and I never saw more than 3-4 dwebs at a time. I think Flash attacked before Shuttle was ready, i.e. he could only use 4 dwebs from his first 4 corsairs and then the other 4 a bit later. Still, interesting build and it might have worked with better execution and a bit of luck.

Maybe Action/CH has taken over that role, so Hoejja can get some confidence ^^

That was STX masters. You can't compare that to WL. Moreover the two teams he AKed CONSECUTIVELY was SKT and Woongjin, both teams sending their best players. Surely you don't need me to tell you how much more significant is that. That's a feat even an S-class player would be lucky to do.

Even as much as I hate Bisu I cant denie that he is good or has had descent PvT allways, albeit it being really fucking bad at one point and top 3 at all time right now. I really dont know what the fuck you guys are smoking when you say that his game vs Hyvaa wasnt to Hyvaas credit and not Stats' fault. He is slumping, agreed, noone can argue that, but you know what? Stats is in the worst slump of his career so far AND HE STILL HAS A CAREER WISE PvZ RECORD OVER 50%, which was close as shit to 60% before his slump, and even then 2-3 of his losses are due to hydra bust's which has been Stats' achilles heel PvZ (Watch his series vs Calm in the ro16 for proof of that). Actually I wont defend it anymore, it just annoys me to no end that people denies it. Maybe I am biased and bla bla bla
But who cares cus BArracks vs Classic is up
KT hooligans, please stop
we are not holligans,we love our players,we hate it when they are slandered by fools.
lol i love MBC commentators so much with their random small segments of talks. they were talking about how IntoTheRain was a dancer, singer and did DJ-ing for a while before he started playing SC, and thus ended up being a commentator instead. ITR then replied, "if only i was taller..."
Looks like Barracks is going to win. Classic made some mistakes, but the old Barracks wouldn't have been able to capitalize on them. Great to see him improving!!!!!!!!

Same for Hoejja, probally.
I would nearly wish he got matched up vs Bogus, would be such an awesome matchup
yeahhhh, remember the last time Hoejja played bogus?
Remember when Hoejja played Sea? (on this map, even).
If he plays that way he could give flash hell, even ^^ He looked so scarily good
I would love to know Flash's record against Hoejja at the practice house. That must be hilarious. Something like 1589 to 24.
At Korean Air finals Hoejja was the sparring partner who went with flash to china.
I know, I was there. I even touched Hoejja's back lol.
Flash must be really in ez mode at the practice house. He got a 70+% winrate for his whole career and since he often made deep runs in Starleagues and has played almost every KT ace games, he played much better opponents overall. I'm sure his winrate in practice house is over 85%, so against Hoejja...

Scrappy game but it was fun to watch throughout. If you showed me a VOD of barracks playing last season and a recent game of Barracks I wouldn't be able to tell that they were the same player playing.

Probably thought Bogus had moved too much stuff to defend the recall and he could break the center.
Yeah, but there was no need to break the center. All he had to do was make gateways and sit around waiting for Bogus to attack. Keeping Terran units unclumped when they're moving is next to impossible, so he could have gotten much better stasises and killed the army then. Bogus was already 3-2, so it's not like there was some key timing he was aiming for either.
If Stats had only made a couple of decisions differently (read: not suiciding into a well fortified Terran defence) he would've totally won this game I think. It's amazing how he's still in this despite his failures.
Don't know how Stats can really win this at this point. Bogus has 50% of the map, so Terran cost efficiency will easily win him this game if he just defends properly.

How could he not allow him to do that? While he broke bogus' contain bogus' defenses was allready up and stats was at that time down to 3 bases, which doesnt reproduce your units fast enough.

Bro, I've been a fan of his since he carried STX on his goddamned back while the rest of the bench slumped into oblivion. So glad Bogus won his game and Hoejja, too!!
When everybody else wondered why they continued to play him, Barracks is really starting to justify the KT coaches' patience. If he can just be a ~50% player, he'd still be a boon to KT; .500 players aren't that easy to find.
Congrats to KT, woot. Oh good games STX you guys played well! I hope STX brings Tossgirl to A team next season :D I still want to see Flash vs Tossgirl :D

Grats to KT, at least we didn't keel over for you like day 1, so I don't feel too bad about the loss. I think next season, if Bogus and Shuttle stay in their current shape, minus shuttle's PvZ, fix that in off season please, and Kal and Calm come back to their normal self, STX could be pretty scary next season.
Although I'm sure once Kal and Calm stop coming out of their slump, Shuttle and Bogus will go into one. Kinda the way STX works.

Unlucky to Shuttle who played an interesting strategy in a high-risk game. I respect any player who would do something like that. However i'm not sure the openness of the map helped. Also maybe the sairs could have taken turret fire to be able to drop/harass the Island. It still wouldn't give away he's going for dwebs.
The thing about d-webs is, when you think about it, even if you know it's coming as a T you gotta be extreme careful on your push. If you siege at the wrong time then you just made a big portion of tanks useless for a time being. The problem i think for P is managing to storm everything and get goons into actual useful positions to kill tanks and not other units. Very difficult to pull off, but maybe viable? Bisu has better sair control and multitasking...

Yes it would... a protoss would only get sairs vT for 1 reason, and that's d-web (not to mention Flash knew about the fleet beacon anyway). The second he shows them, the element of surprise is gone.

Only one reason... except for the reason i just gave, to take turret fire to cover for a drop? lol. If a P got a sair to take hits considering the extent of the island defense and used it to drop a shuttle or 2 you'd assume that he's also going for d-web? Considering Stargate tech will likely be up the use of a sair in such a manner wouldn't be strange at all. Yes if he flies 8 sairs over the island to take damage, then there's a clue.
The 3rd base was very important in that game and gave Flash the easy eco advantage and win. Hence why so many turrets and the patrol wraith. Even seeing 2 sairs show up to maybe engage the wraith and take turret hits wouldn't indicate d-web. This is an important expo.

So you're saying is that it makes more sense to waste some corsair(including the time making them instead of more gateways) just to drop an island? What units are going out of that shuttle?
Well I think that the Terran would push to your natural right away once he saw those corsair and the units in the shuttle, he'll know you have way less units and some useless corsair so losing his island expo for that 3rd is fine if it wins him the game.

If Flash sees a toss with 2 stargates and a fleet beacon, and then sees sairs flying around then yes I expect he'd figure it out. Besides, using (and/or losing) sairs to tank turrets is very inefficient of the toss. If you wanted to drop and needed a shield while you unload your shuttle, you could get another shuttle.... 200/0 vs 150/100.
Shuttle wanted Flash to expect carriers (which he did, thus after seeing the fleet beacon he made a couple rounds of goliaths). If you are making a carrier switch that early and thus sacrificing some of your ground army, you will not want to waste the gas or the stargates (build time) on wasted units. You'd want to get as many carriers out as possible :/
If the terran doesn't put 2 and 2 together, then he will just think you are delaying your carriers and wasting gas (and stargate build time) on a worthless unit at the cost of more ground units/carriers, and just push on you.
Yeah no one is going to get corsairs in PvT to help drop an island. Hallucination with drops or arbiters is easier and cheaper and better in every way.
Corsairs are for dweb only. dweb does the same thing as stasis only it comes out earlier and you can get more of them at good timings. They are however inherently worse than stasis because zealots can no longer attack tanks and your dragoons sometimes get caught in them, and the terran can move out of them.
Basically in that game shuttle prepared for flash's first push but flash saw it coming and seiged accordingly and that was game.

Yeah - it was supposed to be insane. Cool strategy though. Had he done better in the first engagement he could've won. Oh well
I'm rather surprised at what happened - I guess the core STX players' forms are worse than I thought. Hopefully their extended break now that the season is over for them will give them a chance to recover.
I really miss Kal's play when he was at his peak. So exciting.
loool, that was quite hilarious interview, especially Flash's answers and especially the two remarks towards Hoejja. Poor guy haha. But it seems there is pretty cheerful atmosphere in KT, which is great.
It's also quite funny how much Flash wanted revenge. And it's interesting that he looked so "unimpressed" after beating Shuttle, considering how much he wanted to win. Maybe he was dissapointed by Shuttle's play?
The remark that he "went on a TvP practice spree for many hours afterwards" should also ease worried fans a little bit, seems like Flash doesn't have that much problems practicing.

Gotta do it like ForU did in the old Pimpest Play days... As you say, the zeals are useless if they go under the web and goons do pretty well when they're not being shelled by tanks. Problem is, as Flash showed, you can just unsiege and move back using the webs to your advantage to take out the goons... Web costs 125 energy I think? Takes too long to recharge and Flash had way too strong tech and eco by then to lose.
Cute strategy, but pretty dumb by Shuttle IMO. Unless he decisively won that first battle he was always going to be screwed.
how does the corsair trump the arbiter, it seems like the arbiter has more dynamic potential in PvT with recall/stasis and cloaking than say disabling a small area from attacking

Well I think the answer to your question is the most obvious one: it doesn't.

Corsairs are quite a bit cheaper than Arbiters (150/100 vs 100/350), and build a hell of a lot faster (40 vs 160 seconds). As such, a toss can mass a group of sairs off 2/3 base relatively quickly, in time to engage the terran just as the terran moves out into the middle of the map. Had he gotten all the storms off in that attack instead of just the 1, that engagement would have gone better.
If you are asking as a general question, then in a long macro game the Corsair doesn't have an advantage over an Arbiter in the PvT matchup (which is why they are almost never seen). This was strictly to attempt and disrupt Flash's army at that timing. Had he succeeded in breaking that army, Flash would have been unable to push out or secure a 4th base while Shuttle would have expand and macrod up a large force.
