Results and Standings for the Round of 32:

Once again we return to a group stage for the round of thirty-two. Each group consists of four players; the group selection event determines their placement in each group. Each group must go through a double elimination format to determine which players will advance and which players are eliminated. If a player can get two wins before he gets two losses, then he advances to the next round. If he can’t, then he is eliminated. Two players from each group of four will have the chance to continue to fight for this season’s title.

Alas, very few qualified protoss once more .
It's probably because all the protoss talent(except Beesuit/Stork when they're good) fail to deliver 100% of the time that it truly matters.
If you are not Bisu, chances are I hate you.

Perfectman, Stork, Jaehoon, Movie and Stats, have yet to qualify ! Hopefully that would make 4 more protoss. Don't forget we're talking about Jaehoon and Perfectman, probably the best two failtoss !
But Stork and Stats should make it !

Eek, the MSL is really trying the best to disprove the legend of the fall, aren't they? Then again, it only takes one to win it all. Hopefully Stork makes it into the Ro32 to join the other 3 dragons.

Yeah not too many protoss qualifying for this MSL so far, but at least if they do make it deep it will be that much more impressive.
I'm going to sleep, let me get some of that carpet.

Wow, the MSL is gonna end really late into 2011. This is technically the 3rd MSL of 2010, so I don't like seeing it go past January.

Nate MSL 2009 started on November 26th 2009 and ended on January 23 2010. So if this one starts in Mid December, it's gonna go to mid February.

Can't wait for the group selection ceremony. Sea says he's prepared an awesome ceremony for this. He's enlisted the help of another progamer who will make a surprise appearance in it. He says it's going to be so shocking that the programme director and staff may even lose their jobs because of it. LOL

Just seems hard to call it the 3rd MSL of 2010 when it goes well into the next year. I like dividing the MSL and OSL into the 3 per year that there are. Back in the day, the first MSL of the year ended in March. Now the last of the previous year is ending in February (probably) instead of November like it used to. Just messes with my bearings.

Also, Bisu is by far the best player in his group. He just has to play well. Hoping for Bisu 2-0 Kal 2-1.

There's still Bisu, Stork, Light(I think) and Fantasy to challenge Jaedong. All of them have the skills to beat JD in a BoX.

The question now is will Jaedong concentrate more on the OSL where Flash is still in or will he take the easier, though less prestigious, title?

No, I think it will be 6 Zergs and 2 Protoss. I am sure (P)Goojila can beat (Z)RorO

If things go right, potential Kespa ranking matchups for the Ro4:

Jaedong vs Kal (again)
Bisu vs Calm

If Stork defeats Bisu then he will play Jaedong in the Ro4 if Kal survives that long.

Bisu.

I will be rooting for Stork in this set. If only Bisu was fighting someone else other than Stork, I would be rooting for Bisu. =(

My brain explodes trying to think about who to root for. Stork is my favourite player forever and always, but he has the OSL too. Bisu is my second favourite, and to see him drop to a level as low as Flash and drop out in the Ro36 (32) and Ro16 would be a damn shame. Nothing in the BW universe would make me happier than Stork winning dual gold, but part of me would be saddened by Bisu's Flash-level performance. I would also be happy if Stork won OSL gold and Bisu won MSL as Stork losing in the Ro16 would be made up by his championship. But dual golds the sooner the better for Dino toss because he isn't getting any younger and now is a good as any time to reach the bonjwa status he deserves. But poor Bisu if he loses in the Ro16. Plus if Stork wins, then the semi-finals would be Stork-Jaedong en route to a Stork-Kal final. I'd rather see Kal-Jaedong semi-final en route to a Bisu-Jaedong final.

Anyone else see the dilemma? Who do I root for? Ahh!

are there really only 3 Terrans? None of which can be finalists imo. Finals can only be ZvZ or ZvP at this point.

Though there are more Stork fans that don't like Bisu than Bisu fans that don't like Stork.

(Z)Jaedong vs (T)Midas - JD
(Z)HoGiL vs (P)Snow - can go either way, but (P)Snow

(Z)ZerO vs (T)SoulKey - probably (Z)ZerO with more exp
(Z)RorO vs (P)Kal - (P)Kal obviously
(P)Bisu vs (P)Stork - shiiiit my two most favorite players. Will make me sad/happy either way.

Let's make a daring prediction, shall we?

(P)Kal > (Z)RorO
(P)Stork > (P)Bisu
(Z)InteR.Calm > (T)Ssak
(Z)Hydra > (T)Classic
(Z)MenSol[ZerO] > (Z)Neo.G_Soulkey
(Z)great > (Z)Action

After rearrangement:
(Z)Jaedong > (P)Snow
(Z)Hydra < (Z)Calm
(P)Stork > (Z)ZerO
(Z)great > (P)Kal

(Z)Jaedong > (Z)Calm
(P)Stork > (Z)great

That's wrong. Only way for Stork/Bisu/Kal to play JD, is the final. Kal and Stork/Bisu will meet in semis, assuming that JD won't lose to Midas (and that they won't lose earlier obviously).

If someone came up to me a few weeks ago and told me to bet 1 dollar for 1000 that ssak would be the last terran player, I probably wouldnt have done it...and now hes the closest left. Hopefully we dont see ZvZ finals as I would rather have an epic ZvP (my favorite m/u)

Ssak will be a hero when he makes it to RO8 as the only Terran. This is the first time the top Terran isn't Flash since Avalon MSL with Iris in the semis.

Just for "fun" i looked at January Kespa rankings and matched the brackets, assuming that no one comes from behind.

Jaedong v. Snow
Kal v. Great
Stork v. Zero
Calm v. Hydra

Pretty darn nice. If Ssak Hogil or Soulkey win matches, then they are worse player by ranking and Jaedong plays them instead. Everyone else gets moved up and pairing change.

Stork vs ZerO would be nuts. I'd be rooting for my SBG all the way... but considering SvJ recently that could be Stork's hardest Zerg opponent.

The deeper Ssak goes, the higher Flash's blood pressure rises.

Even though Ssak is from SKT... I just find him too amusing to support. I mean, I'll cheer for him and all, but in the end, I'll be loling no matter what he does. Probably because I still can't believe that he made it into the Ro16. XD

High probability of JD > Snow IMO. Snow's PvZ has been sub-par, only really beating HoGiL since early/mid November of last year, whereas JD's ZvP has been absolutely stellar, only really losing to Stork, and the occasional Bisu/Kal, with all remaining matches being W's since February of 2010.

Obviously living in the past isn't going to determine the winner, but statistic-wise, JD is a heavy favorite to take Snow and advance to the Ro4. Plus, I believe JD will keep his promise he made to Fomos (And Shin-ae!) to impress his fans and not leave them disappointed from his sub-par performance in 2010.

My predictions:

(Z)Jaedong is definitely going to the semis, only miracle or him being really sloppy 3 times out of 5 can give (P)Snow a chance to win

(Z)Calm has been outclassed by (T)Fantasy, but his ZvZ should be able to pull him through. Although I must admit - (Z)Hydra has his chances.

(P)Kal and (Z)great are both kings of otherworldly sloppiness at times, but I think experience is going to be the deciding factor here.

(Z)ZerO really needs to bring in all his cookiness to even think going through (P)Stork. Birdtoss is in godly shape, he's peaking both vZ and overall. And that is Bo5 (right?), so he should be even more favorite.

Stork is going to steamroll Zero almost as bad as Jaedong will steamroll Snow. Other than that, I hope for Calm and Kal - which would provide us with a Jaedong/Kal and a Calm/Stork ro4, am I right?

This is incorrect. Let me state this to set the record straight:

This is the only MSL Ro8 that has ever had 0 Terran players. It is unprecedented.

Last season had 0 Protoss in the Ro8, but this is the first without Terran. In addition, there is only one other MSL Ro8 without a Protoss: Trigem in 2003. Zerg have been in every Ro8.

How is that nothing rare? It's only the third time a race has had no representative in the MSL Ro8, and the first for Terran.

(Z)Jaedong 3-0 (P)Snow

Best ZvP of all time vs some Protoss. Normally, I would call 3-1 for Zerg, but it's not Zerg. It's Jaedong.

(Z)Hydra 3-1 (Z)Calm

Hydra is damn underrated, but he won't be anymore after this. Sorry Clam, but you're not good enough.

(P)Stork 3-2 (Z)Zero

The closest one IMO. Even though I like Zero, Stork has the momentum and will win after epic match.

(Z)Great 3-1 (P)Kal

I think Kal won't pass this obstacle. Somehow, mid-level Zergs (hi Modesty) are able to smash his PvZ.

How many times did JD knock him out of tournaments. Off the top of my head, I think it was 4 MSLs that JD knocked him out of, as well as contributing to knocking out Kal in Ro16 of Batoo?

I think there is only 3 people with winning records against JD:
Stork - 14-12
Flash - 23-20
Bisu - 7-9 (wow they haven't played much)

People in the ro8:
Kal is 4-15 against JD lol
Snow - 0-1
Hydra - 2-4
Calm - 4-6
Great - 1-4

In a bo5 it will be very difficult for anyone to take out JD.

If stork and JD meet in the finals, it will be epic as fuck

EDIT: forGG's record vs JD is 4-1! :-(

815 - 2-1 (retired)
Tester - 2-1 (retired)
Backho - 1-0 ()
Rock - 3-2
Frozean - 2-1
Tempest - 2-1

Might be a couple more somewhere, but yes, not too many players have winning records against him (though a handful are tied at head-to-heads).

edit: for completion's sake, here are the rest:

sheis - 2-0 (retired)
u-238 2-1 (retired)
freedom - 1-0 (retired)
s2 - 1-0
sair - 2-1
I'm going to sleep, let me get some of that carpet.

wow casy!!!
a lot of those are really really surprising, thanks for sharing
still though, the point is that in a bo5 I don't see anyone besides stork or flash being able to beat him.

Backho undefeated against JD on official matches, I wonder how they both feel about that? lol

Oh true, I just don't think Kal can come close to getting revenge, and I say that as someone who really likes Kal.

If I remember correctly, Jaedong lost to Backho building two gates in the middle of Andromeda that game.

1. in a bo7, its likely we'll at least have ONE hive tech game
2. it will be quick, so we go to bed earlier and get some more sleep :-)

SC1 series are always no longer than Bo5.

I enjoy ZvZ so I actually wouldn't mind an all-zerg semis, other than that it wouldn't really feel epic enough for the end of a starleague.

Also if there's a ZvZ final you should steal the banner used in the Avalon MSL finals thread.

Only Protoss and Zerg left in the MSL with JAEDONG in it. Jaedong has to grab the title here, he's the god of ZvP and ZvZ, with no terrans standing in his way especially flash.

See Jaedong vs Yellow. Also, if I'm not mistaken I think ZerO has taken more games from Jaedong than any other zerg, so he may stand a chance :u. His ZvZ has also significantly improved this season going from 16-16 last season to 9-4 so far, one of those wins being the ace match against JD. And don't forget ZerO all-killing Oz during the last stx masters :D
*tries to generate hope for a ZerO gold where there is little hope to be found lawl*

So given JD's handful of hive tech ZvZs and ZerO's sh**load of them, we could possibly see a few in a JvZerO MSL final :3

Done with MSL. Unless ZvZ or JvZ goes into late game, this will be a quick MSL to wrap up. Hmm.. considering it's going to be the exact same match up for every game, they could try doing all the matches in one day. lol Throwing it out there. I may not be able to ensure who will take the MSL (Jaedong fighting!) but I can be 100% sure that a Zerg will win and that does not interest me at all. Now good day.

I said good day!

Well, hopefully, we can get a Great vs JD finals. With Great's epic end game zvz's, we could hope for a good series at least.

Minor correction:

He's actually going for tying (T)NaDa's record of 6 finals golds. He and (T)Flash both already have 5 finals golds. (T)iloveoov also had 5, and (Z)sAviOr had 4.

Minor correction:

He's actually going for tying (T)NaDa's record of 6 finals golds. He and (T)Flash both already have 5 finals golds. (T)iloveoov also had 5, and (Z)sAviOr had 4.

I think he's actually talking about overall MSL final appearances, which Savior has 5 of (in a row too) and Nada actually has 6...

LOL. I haven't been following this MSL very much. In fact I was just waiting for it to reach the semis (good games incoming?) and then I just realized that both semis are ZvZs.

Screw the semis, watch the JD vs. Snow series. One of the best PvZ series ever.

I definitely think that the semi finals will have better games than the finals will. Obviously Zero vs great has so much epic potential, but even on the other side, those two are probably the best straight-up ZvZers right now. In the next round Jaedong (or maybe hydra, but probably not) would be a fool to allow the game to get to hive, so it will be normal ZvZ against some one who is probably worse than Hydra.

GL Zero, show me something awesome! (and win, winning is good to )

If being up against a zerg slightly worse than JD is a cause of concern, then he really is performing worse than he should.

ZvZ is always the worst match up to be confident in, cause it can turn into a BO loss X_x

Considering the fact that JD's ZvZ has pretty much the highest winrate of any player's match-up in the history of progaming (with a decent amount of games played) I think the ''luck'' and ''BO loss'' aspect of the match-up is generally overstated.

I am quite convinced JD will smash Hydra.

Agreed. JD's ZVZ is god-like. I mean, he had a tough OSL, but he's still number two. He's the best zerg. Easy as that. I dont see Hydra out-cheesing him because Jaedong adjusts great to these sort of things. I'm just depressed Kal is out of another starleague

lol.. the final will be a formality after Jaedong vs Hydra.

Again I'll bring up that ZerO has taken more games from Jaedong than any other zerg, and ZerO's zvz radically improving this season combined with ZerO going 2-1 against JD since the offseason/this season began.(One of those wins was part of ZerO's all-kill of Oz during the Stx masters). If ZerO advances over great, I'd say he has just as much of a chance in the finals as hydra does going into his semifinal with JD.

by more games, you mean a 11-4 record
while that is still good for a zerg, I wouldn't say that a percentage-wise comparison over both of their careers which is not very impressive (26.66%) is not as relevant as hydra's great form right now lulz

either way, hoping for some very good micro from all players :3

*11-5 if you include the game I mentioned during the stx masters (you have to choose any league when looking it up on the TLPD) , But I highlighted what's recent in that many of those losses were in the middle of ZerO's career when he was notoriously awful at ZvZ. I'll quote myself from the same post in saying "ZerO's zvz radically improved[ed] this season."

Urgh, after 9 days without live BW, these had better be great series... or Jaedong winning, or both.

Little worried since Jaedong has dropped games to both Hydra and ZerO this season, but he should be okay.

Sadly, I'm actually nervous for Jaedong on this one. He just doesn't look confident recently, or energetic for that matter. Hopefully he recharged his batteries and is gonna come out with the heat!

there isn't a matchup with more than 50 games played where there is a winning percentage that can match JD's ZvZ

Gotta love the drama of this MSL:

Defending Champion gets kicked out in Ro32 in two mirror matches

3 Time Champion gets kicked out in Ro16 in a mirror match; where his best MU is statistically most likely to occur; his opponent falls 0-3 the next round in the very matchup that the champion was good at

No Terrans in Ro8, and no Protoss by Semifinals

2 Time Champion gets a close shave in Ro8 and gets booted out in Semifinals

2 First-Time finalists

Possibly the shortest MSL Finals

To be honest, great seems a lot more relaxed and confident. Hydra will be a favorite in the finals and he will feel the pressure to win. But that won't happen. Great will just play his game and abuse Hydra's disadvantages and his own strong sides (ling micro, mind games, possibility to go Hive and all other stuff).

Thank goodness Jaedong will never ever match Nada and Savior's record in MSL.
I love Savior, I hate Jaedong.

Gotta love the drama of this MSL:

Defending Champion gets kicked out in Ro32 in two mirror matches

3 Time Champion gets kicked out in Ro16 in a mirror match; where his best MU is statistically most likely to occur; his opponent falls 0-3 the next round

No Terrans in Ro8, and no Protoss by Semifinals

2 Time Champion gets a close shave in Ro8 and gets booted out in Semifinals

2 First-Time finalists

Possibly the shortest MSL Finals

This season has been one of the most screwed up seasons ever, individual league wise. I'm not sure what to believe anymore in pro BW.

Truly we can never tell until we are at the end of the road.
I was rooting for Stork and Jaedong since Ro8 and.... what the heck happend? Hehe!
At first I thought this was going to be the worst MSL yet but looking at the players who made it first time I should give a credit to them. Good job. This time, I want Hydra to win. You should win or else I'll "BEAT" you up. Haha!

It's very impressive that Hydra overwhelmed JD in Muta micro... all JD wins were ling strategy

Hmm... Korean media are dubbing this the final between "Mong Hwan (fantasy)" zerg vs "High-end" zerg. Could this be an omen?

I've dropped off of watching BW, and coming back to check on the finals I was surprised as hell to see who it was, and that hydra had beaten jaedong.
It's also a refreshing sight to see zergs dominating after following SC2 for the last little while.

The first game was very entertaining, but the last was terrible. I was expecting more Hive builds.
