Final: Triathlon
March 3, 2007: the day of the GOMTV MSL Finals. A young, up-and-coming Protoss player named (P)Bisu faced off against the unstoppable bonjwa, (Z)sAviOr. Many thought this protoss would be hard-pressed to win a single game of this series, as his opponent was invincible against protoss. Yet (P)Bisu managed to pull off the greatest upset in the history of professional StarCraft and defeated the unstoppable bonjwa 3-0, ending his long reign of dominance forever.
Ninjas destroying Savior's lair.
Fast forward to early 2010. By now, (P)Bisu has become the most accomplished protoss of all time, and throughout the years he was the first one who gave protoss the chance to be anything other than punching bags in the proscene. Yet now, he is not the dominant protoss player he once was, as he is in the middle of possibly the greatest slump of his career. Many anti-fans begin to claim that he will never return, and as the months pass, his fans begin to believe it too. Yet in mid-2010, he again begins to return to form. But something is wrong with this new Bisu: his decision-making is not as good as it used to be.
I wouldn't suggest doing this unless you want to lose.
Luckily, after a crushing defeat in the proleague finals to KT, his decision-making took a turn for the better, allowing him to become a nearly undefeated player in Proleague.
Now, it seems that the time for his return may have finally come. However, a great obstacle stands in his way: His three greatest weaknesses. Before he can truly become what he once was, he must first overcome these weaknesses, each represented in this MSL group.

His first weakness is the zerg player, (Z)Shine, famous for his all-in strategies and for defeating good protoss in the OSL. Despite his unrivaled PvZ prowess, (P)Bisu has a rather mediocre head-to-head of 3-5 against (Z)Shine, who eliminated him from the OSL twice. While not to be underestimated, (Z)Shine does lack skill in playing in the lategame, which may be the key to his demise. Above all else, if (P)Bisu wants to overcome this obstacle to his success, he must not lose to something unexpected.
In recent times, (P)Bisu's PvP no longer appears to be as unstoppable as it once was. This is seen most clearly in his unusually long string of losses against (P)Kal, a protoss player often considered to be an 'S-class reader.' While in one of these games, he was simply outplayed, most of these losses stem from the same problem as his losses against (Z)Shine: poor decision-making. When he does not choose to take unnecessary risks against a weaker player by doing a 3 gate build, he is able to outmatch (P)Kal's impressive PvP skill. Yet too many a game (P)Bisu has lost due to poor decision-making. But perhaps he can finally overcome this and defeat his desire to hastily summon a third gateway.
It is not (T)Really himself who poses a threat to (P)Bisu, but rather his race, terran, and his TvP prowess. (P)Bisu is historically weaker against terran than he is against protoss and zerg, unlike just about every other protoss in the proscene. Why? In an interview with his teammate (P)BeSt, his teammate revealed that while (P)Bisu does indeed have great skill against terran, he often manages to throw away his army against the terran tank line. Yet he may have finally found the power to combat terran once again, as he is on a 7-game PvT winning streak. If (T)Really and (P)Bisu play each other, we may find out if he has the power to perform to the best of his ability.
Right now, many fans and anti-fans want to find out, "is (P)Bisu really back?" This group is the culmination of every doubt that exists about his ability to return to his former glory. Many doubt that he will succeed. Will he be able to overcome his greatest weaknesses or does he still have more work to do before he can? The answers may lie ahead...

Perhaps my article on Bisu doesn't satisfy you because you're not a Bisu fanboy additional content is always better. But don't worry, you will indeed get more. Below is a Kal hype article written by our very own friendly neighborhood mustaju. Enjoy!
When Group H, the "Group of Death“ was selected, Bisu fanboy and antifanboy sirens were loud enough to entirely drown out another statement that was to be made, but neither by Bisu nor by Shine. Kal wanted Stork to join the group in an attempt to prove something – Kal wants to be the best Protoss in the world, and he wants there to be no doubt about his worthiness of the title. His opponents are almost perfect for such a task, even without Dinotoss present.

First, we have Really, the Terran Pillar of Woongjin who was renowned for his TvP not too long ago during his ESTRO days. Kal at the time of selection had already bested Flash in a dramatic match on Aztec, and PvT is currently his best matchup. No doubt, practicing all three matchups now is more difficult than only two, but in order to be worthy of his goal, he must prevail. It is also turning his back on history – Kal is 0-3 against Really, and the victory needs to be convincing in order to wash away his defeat at the hands of the enigmatic firebathero. True, Really is not in the form he used to be, but he is a major obstacle no Protoss should take lightly, and the map is 3-7 PvT as well to boot.

Second, we have Shine, the infamous smasher of Protoss dreams, and master of pressure, the so-called kryptonite of Kal. Shine is potentially the most dangerous opponent out of the bunch for Kal, since PvZ is Kal’s weakest matchup and he is a whopping 0-4 against Shine, his most recent loss only 2 months ago. But this was then, and this is now. Kal has been adjusting to pressure better, and breaks less easily than ever before, a few upsets here and there breaking the overall pattern. Kal might have bitten himself too large a piece to swallow, but Shine has shown vulnerability where there was none just a few days ago. There are plenty of questions remaining : Was Shine’s streak a fluke? Was Shine’s vulnerability a few unlucky days in the midst of a path to MSL/PL domination? Are we even going to see a Kal vs. Shine match? Fans of the smugtoss can only rely on faith at the moment, whatever their hopes may be. Defeat to Shine would lay waste to his aspiration of being the best Protoss, since Stork has set a standard, victory would propel him into all new heights.

Last, but certainly not least, we have Bisu, who is on a huge PL streak and on a quest for revenge of his own. Bisu is almost a god for a lot of Team Liquid forum-goers, and Bisu’s ELO allows him to set a sight even higher than that of Kal’s is right now, as Bisu attempts to overtake Jaedong himself, and eventually Flash. Or that’s what his supporters say, anyway. That said, I’m certain Kal wanted Bisu in his group to either make a statement or fall out trying – he is every bit as worthy of hype as Stork or Bisu, maybe even more so. His PvP seems to give him a good chance – Kal is sitting at #2 PvP ELO right now, a few points ahead of Bisu, and his record 6-4, 3 of those wins made during this very season. Kal will certainly not be a pushover for Bisu, and the battle for Protoss dominance will continue long after the MSL, but this confrontation would be monumental nonetheless. If Kal wins, his PvP ELO will rise to a new peak, and it establishes him as a major contender for winning the whole thing.

As a fan of BW, I am excited at the possible opportunities. As a fan of Kal, I am afraid his task might be too great. But Kal was not discouraged by all those losses to Flash and Jaedong, and because of that, I should have some faith too. May the best players win.

After interview with Bisu! :D

Q: You've lost quite a lot to Shine recently, and now you finally won against him. Your feelings on this?
A: Ah, it felt really good to win against him, since he kept on knocking me out in tournaments.

Q: Your cannon rush today was quite nice!
A: I really practiced a lot for today's games, so I'm really glad to advance with a good outcome.

Q: You're going to be facing Stork next match, your thoughts?
A: Although it is regrettable to face off against Stork, I think that it'll be a fun game... *Smiles*

Q: There's a lot of zergs in this MSL, do you think that facing off against them will be hard or easy?
A: There are indeed a lot of zergs, and I think that it'll be quite difficult, along with the maps also favoring them... But I'll do my best.

Q: Any last words to your fans?
A: Thank you to everyone who cheered for me; I felt like I received a lot of your love today, and I'll try hard to do my best and work hard in the future... And happy New Year's to everyone.

Kal's after-game interview! :D

Q: You pulled off a victory after losing, you must be feeling really good right now!
A: Aww man, I AM feeling REALLY good right now... It's great that I won, I practiced really hard for these games. :D But I regret that- *Mumbles something*
Commentators: Wha? :D
A: Oh, I just wish that I could've ended the game more quickly and cleanly, but I'm still happy that I won :DDD
Commentators: Lol okay XD

Q: What are some important points to staying alive in this MSL?
A: Hmm, I think that it's really important that you defend your bases, stay alert, and be aggressive so you can end the game quickly. But staying on your toes is really important if you want to survive.

Q: There's quite a lot of Zergs this MSL, with just 3 Terrans. Your thoughts on going against them, along with having to face Roro next?
A: Ah yes, it will be quite difficult I think, and Roro has been playing really well these days, but if I practice really hard and be confident in myself, I think that I can pull off a win and go far. :D
Commentators: Lol spoken like you want to go for the gold in the Olympics XD

Q: Any last words you want to say to the fans out there?
A: Thanks to everyone who cheered and supported me today, and please have a h-happy New Year's. *Stutters* :D;;
Commentators: Lolz spoken like a champ! Oh man Kal's voice is really smooth and charismatic, it was really a pleasure to interview him. :D

I missed like one or two other questions they asked him, but they weren't that important.

This group is going to be amazing... I hope. All four very capable and skillful players, but only two will advance!

I'm predicting Bisu (2-0) and Shine (2-1) to advance together and bash each other in the interviews.

Really? This group has 3 more players in it, it's not just Bisu & the rest. At least try to put some effort into giving something to people who are not Bisu fans.

On the other hand, Bisu's bit was good, and your effort (and the early OP) are inspiring.

More than anything, this group is a test of whether or not Bisu can overcome his weaknesses. A normal group of death doesn't really get this much hype.

that being said, if any fans of the players want me to add a bit about them, give me a PM.
