Those positions for 1a2a3a sound really painful >< I use only my index finger to type all the characters of 1a2a3a4a then switch to index+pinky for 5a6a7a.

I keep my left hand like this: pinky=shift, ring=a, middle=s, index=d, thumb=space

it is just natural for me to hit 1-3 with middle or ring, then zoom back to hit a with ring/middle
4-0 with index

but when I am microing, I rarely just go straight 1a2a3a, I usually right click to move them around first, THEN hit attack, so its no big deal that i have zoom back

if I'm going for a larger scale attack where I just throw units at the enemy, then i switch hand positions to middle on 1-3 and pointer on 'a', 4-0 stays the same

pinky for me is purely for shift and ctrl

I usually do:
1a2a - pinky + ring
3a - pinky + middle
4a5a6a7a8a9a - pinky + index

Although I guess this technique seems to work rather well too (as quoted already):
1a - pinky + ring
2a - pinky + middle
3a4a5a6a7a8a9a - pinky + index

But yes, it really is a matter of your own comfort level; do whatever is easiest and fastest for you.

My best is only 1.46 seconds. -_-

pinky on "a", ring finger for 1, 2, then middle finger for 3,4,5,6, forefinger for 7,8,9 but obvioulsy it's usually only up till 6 that i'd use.

I dont get why you care about using 5 and above. It's not like you have above 5 groups of units, unless you play ZvP perhaps. You need to be fast at 1a2a3a4a5a6a thats it 7a8a9a0a almost totally uneccessary

1234 M&M 5 M&M or tanks 6 vessels TvZ, 12 vults 34 tanks 5 gols TvT/TvP
123 lings/hydra 45 lurks/ultra 6 scourges ZvT 1234 lings/hydra 56 ultra/lurks ZvP 1234567890 MUTA ZvZ VERY rarely you get that late though.
1234 zeal/goons/DT/carriers/(sair/shuttles PvZ)/HT 5 Arbiter/HT in all P MUs

But by all means continue using 7a8a9a0a if you like it, though 1a2a3a4a5a6a7a8p9p0p is faster.

i do thumb on a
ring 1 middle 2 pointer 3 middle 4 middle 5
it feels the most comfortable because it reminds me of guitar

anything higher is pointer + pinky on a or s for scan

Thumbs neat if you can get used to it. 2 things to note about it though. I find its slighly harder to be as percise with thumb, getting the timings right. Also for past 6 its not good, so swtich to pinkey, which fingers on a style is easier to transfer into this.

1.05 is best doing it 20times or so with the method i described earlier. ring for 1-4, pinkey for 5-8. Palm on desk starting, starting to move after 4. Could pretty easily get sub significantly bellow 1sec with practice.

i do pinky on 'a', ring on '2', middle on '3', and index on '4'. this lets me do 2a3a4a2a3a4a very quickly. 1a is uncomfortable so i dont really use it unless its late game and i need a lot of hotkeys for units. early/midgame i just use 1 for lurks so i do 1+right click, 2a3a4a.

for 1 - I do middle finger + thumb then "A"
from 2-9 I use my pointer finger and thumb for "A"
for "0" i may just use whatever fingers i feel like thats as far as my hand stretches.

My hands are big. I don't use homerow. These are my most powerful fingers. I could still play SC at 90% if i lost my pinky and ring finger all together.
