some pros click buttons when building to.. i.e having hatchery 4-0 1. press hotkey "4" 2. press button "s" 3. mouse pointer positioned over the unit u want and click.. 4. repeat from step one and replace "4" with "5" and so on....
This works like a charm for units like zerligns cuz the "z" is so far away and that makes it slower to build with only hotkeys using only one hand at the keyboard all the time which I do(my playing style). You can see some pros letting go of their mice in vods.
sometimes u miss, to fast or no larva and click the upgrade button when buying mutas by mistake

I get it often, though usually when I do get it it's accompanied by me yelling "why the hell aren't these lurkers getting in the overlords like I tell them to?"

its simply useless, u cann avoid this upgrade by just doing more lords and sending them to good positions to see everything, u can spend the gas on 4scourge or sth to kill shutlles -_-;;

actually no. Having this upgrade is basically to see the whole map, so using it on an island map is in fact pretty smart cuz u need less overlords to have a good overview. This upgrade should be good vs Terran on Gorky, cuz u need to be the place goliaths are landing with your mutas. 150/150 is not much either. Using it after two or three gas expos should be quite effective.

meh if you're rich and you have a hive and you really need detection (say your opponent is going for wraiths or he has arbiters) then why not get it I've gotten it while doing lurker scourge containments, although who knows if one lord and 4 scourges wouldve been better. it's never necessary but it's definitely _good_ for beating lurker containments.

And his comment definitely has merit, instead of having overlords spaced out and having no gaps, in those gaps that would have been there you could have put scourge. And if you guys care so much about seeing the whole goddamn map becuase you are such fast players, just put your overlord on a few matrix patrol to increase their sight. That works, gogo.

One time my friend was using overlord sight range and it helped him see a drop and secure the win so it is there for 'teh' good and should be get right after lair before lurker. I give it   out of

Against cloacked mass wraiths, especially with muta, since ovies just seem to fall behind even with speed.... Toss contain, when you have scourge around.

Althought I rarely research it, each time i'm amazed about the sight range it gives to the overlord. I usually do it just for fun to increase my ''total spent'' score

Two times I have gotten overlord sightrange:
Usually on a ZvZ, when I try to make mutas fast and accidentally upgrade sightrange.
When I am playing Fastest vs a newbie, trying to find an upgrade to spend money on.
But, yeah I mean they could be useful..but I just don't think I would have money to spare on it while I can get better things.

hmm well... there are 4 scenarios as i see it.
1.uve got 10000 / 10000 hey why not upgrade ol sight range 2.u upgrade it at misstake 3.ur playing a zvt, uve got massive control of the map but ur opponent is not bad...he is making these boxer runs with 3-3 mari medics in all directions and u have a "hard" time keeping up with it...u get sight range to pretty much get a better vision of his outruns 4.Its a really tight zvp , 1 exp against 1 exp and u as a zerg player is pretty much doing all the harass u can for the toss not to 100% benefit from his exp and keep him shut in so he cant get out, u get ol sight range AFTER drop AND ol speed becoz simply u cant reach his obs when he go hide with them behind his goons when he is doing his slowpush breakout attempt, same reason protoss players can get speed and ob sightrange to get out ASAP.
The upgrade is worth it but still not worth it.... u cant get hive while upgrading it and compared to speed and drop its crazily unneeded... im sure it could make a difference in a semi close match tho.

it's not very useful at all, and nothing even close to ollspeed, i only use it vs terrans in later games, so you can easily scout the terran blob without losing all overlords, seeing the terran army helps alot in making the right decisions, attack or counter etc...

yeah basically the " The upgrade is worth it but still not worth it...." sums it up. the money cost is not the problem. the problem is that you want speed, drop and hive before you get it, but after you have speed, drop and hive it's rarely necessary anymore anyway.

oh yeah I think its useful to pin-point where sci vessels are within the blob of terran units..to assess if its worth scourging or not, cos the sight range goes up from 9 to 11 (i think?) but yeah as ppl said upgrade it only when u know u are winning hoh~

vs not so aggressive opponents, i'll get a wing of queens. i use these to broodling tech units like templar and dragoons, or tanks and medics. the extra site range is helpful when i do this also, you can sometimes broodling like 12 scv, and do enough damage to the cc to tank it... the person really has to suck for this occurance... but all possible with the extra viewing area.
