I think the build is 11nexus->11 forge as he said, and it works against overpool when the rush distance isn't too short. With 2 lings the advantage isn't that big imo, since the build requires some probe cutting to get the forge/cannons in time

How should I respond to a 11 nexus 11 forge (I believe this is the correct bo) when I open with overpool? It seems like on fighting spirit, my lings arrive ever so slightly before the cannon finishes, but he can just block with probes preventing me from doing any real damage if he has decent control.

So is it worth it to invest into 6 lings or should I just try to take advantage of the situation by going 3 drones straight away?

the build isnt nexus -> forge
its forge -> nexus -> cannon -> (2nd cannon) -> gate
what pros do is they get 2 lings and 2 drones as most players dont die to ling runbys anymore. just continue to drone up after that, but depending on the situation (such as killing off scouting probe very early and denying the 2nd scouting probe), you could maybe do cheese runbys with ling speed etc.
if you want to play standard though, drone up and scout with lings/overlord for zealots leaving the base. when you see the first zealot move out follow it with your current lings while leaving overlord at toss nat entrance and make 2 lings at base. if the zealot continues to walk towards your base (passes the halfway mark), make your 3rd set of lings (giving you 6). if you see a 2nd zealot leave the base then make more. the reason you dont just make 6 lings in one go is toss typically doesnt expect to do a lot of damage with the initial zealots, they just want you to waste money on lings rather than droning

It's not. The build is nexus first. And because it's 11 nexus 11 forge, it gets cannons still (approximately, close positions needs some probe micro) on time to defend an overpool.

But I'm still not sure whether the best course of action is. Making 6 lings would force him to pull 5+ probes, which amounts to around 30 seconds of mining lost (5*36minerals = 180 minerals lost in mining time).

4 zerglings would accomplish pretty much the same thing. He'll have to pull around 5 probes if he wants to be safe in my mind.

2 zerglings won't accomplish much I think. Will be difficult to kill any probes without losing the zerglings myself, I can't really focus the cannon since I don't have the DPS to take it down and he might not need to pull 5 to be safe.

Making 3 drones would allow him to do whatever he wants, the build to me seems very strong economically and has tech out very soon, but it doesn't have the spare minerals to be aggressive with any zealots without delaying tech/eco.

So the question is, what's the best for me?

I think I must take advantage of the fact that he can't put up much pressure and I am completely allowed to drone. An overpool doesn't have a great economy so I should focus on improving it as fast as possible.

Does anyone here practice all 3 races regularly? If so may I ask how you decide what to practice and how much you play each race? Or do you only practice certain match ups? Curious on what is the best way to get familiar with each match up

Question on EMP Shockwave:

Pretty much every guide, including Liquipedia and Blizzard's own SC Compendium, list the blast radius for EMP as being 3-matrix... in other words, a 6x6 area of effect.

But when I test it, it seems more like a 4x4 area of effect (2-matrix radius). Very consistently.

What gives? Has anyone else tested this?

Quick question regarding 1a2a3a5a6a. Everytime I do this I have to do it a bit slow because otherwise the command won't register. I tested this on SC2 but the commands go through cleanly, but in BW the commands are a bit wacky. I can do it as fast as possible in sc2 but in BW the attack command won't go through if I do it too fast. sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. Id like to learn how to do it quickly as possible and consistently.

Or is this a problem with my keyboard?

Is there a trick to this?

It has to do with mouse-clicking probably, somehow the new games allow you to be a little more 'lazy' with the clicking. Check out the 2 minute sequence in this video (I set you the starting point):

Here is the thread to that very useful tutorial series on mechanics by Scarbo.

Scarbo's Tutorial Series

So, I don't know how they did made it work out better in SC2, but like always: BW takes a little more effort on the mechanical side, but then it works, and that will be true for your opponents, too.

Hey Highgamer, you are one of the most helpful people on here. Thank you always for the best info. You should be a coach for the CPL.

There was an exe file to fix this. If you check McaLauncher's shittyplugin there's an option called "fix lost keyboard input" that I believe does the same thing (i.e. fixes the mouse input canceling the keyboard input when pressed at same time). Or you could just practice with an army in single player to get the correct rhythm if you're a mechanics purist.

The most intuitive way to learn all 3 races in my opinion is to focus on one race intensively (preferably zerg or terran, it will benefit your mechanics down the road).

After you have learned 3 match-ups in depth, you can switch to another race and start with learning the opposite side of the match-up you are already familiar with. Then you can learn the additional match-ups of that race since you've become more familiar with it. Repeat the process for the last race.

Finally, I think the most common way to remain at your skill level will be to play random (or roll a dice before playing). If you want start improving once more, I fear you will have to focus on one race at a time again.

That is kinda huge.is it still available and can it be used on fish? Sounds a bit controversial as well

just like with hotkey changer its is by right, bannable. but there is no easy way to detect it unless you tell your opponent or you out yourself.

I'm sure the pros don't use hotkey-changers...

With a little practice it's a minor issue that will cost you a game every... 100 games? or even less, even none in the long run?

It's an indicator for unclean clicking actually, I would rather fix it over time by adjusting your clicking-precision.

It's an issue now, and probably means that you do too much hectic 1a2a3a4a5a instead of controlled army movement. (that's exactly when I experience this issue, and I know that I'm too hectic in those moments...)

I am a player who is coming from SC2 and videos like the Scarbo's Tutorial Series and Day9 Dailies have been a good intro for BW. However, I do not know if Day9 dailies are a good source since it is so old. Should I keep watching them or find another series? Suggestions would be lovely. Some podcasts or youtube vids with analysis on build orders and games would be great. Is there someone who has such content? Cheers.

I think the day9 dailies are very good for understanding most strategic and tactical decisions in high level bw and his archive is probably the biggest resource in this regard. Pretty much the only things that were not used at the time was the mech switch in TvZ in mid/late game and lategame TvT with mass wraith.

Thanks Cryoc, then I will stick with the day9 stuff!

Are there any vods that are organized by openers? I heard someone talking about some fpvods that are categorized by openers.

question about archon morphing, I see many toss players morph even though it will surely die. Why? doesn't it waste minerals?

I don't know, if it is different in SC2, but in BW morphing an Archon doesn't cost anything, so even if it will surely die, it will take longer to kill than 2 High Templars.
