Starcraft via TCP IP

Is it possible to play to play SC over TCP IP? Is so, could someone give me some instructions or point me towards where I can get more information. Thanks ^^

Don't understand what you're saying origin, UDP is not TCP/IP. With UDP you're sending packages, with TCP you have a connection. Starcraft uses UDP for B.net and i don't think you can avoid that

UPD is a sub-protocol of the whole TCP/IP thing, and what you are talking about is just a TCP connection, which is not the same thing.

TCP/IP = TCP, IP, UDP, and others

Starcraft uses TCP/IP for B.net, it connects to the bnet server through a tcp connection but when the game is created it is made through an UDP connection.

yep they're a subset but different instances on the same layer.
so saying 'is' is not entirely right and may confuse konni.
i think vov wants UDP over TCP transmission (maybe cuz firewalled).
i doubt it could be accomplished by only client-side proxy or
tunneling but not sure.

That's not right, UDP is not part of TCP/IP, both TCP and UDP are transport layer protocols which relay on IP protocol which is a network layer protocol. An UDP connection is UDP/IP not TCP/IP.

UDP is part of TCP/IP. All the protocols such as FTP, UDP, ARP make up the TCP/IP suite.

Well, a lot of people talk about that TCP/IP suite thing, but being strict UDP is not TCP/IP because UDP doesn't involve any TCP at all.

Definitely FTP is not part of TCP/IP, FTP uses TCP/IP.

Doesn't FTP reside in the application layer of TCP/IP?

Does NetBeui, Appletalk, IPX/SPX have FTP?

So Battle.net protocol is also part of TCP/IP coz it resides on the application layer.

At any rate, the answer to the question (why does this forum always seem to go off on tangents?) is sorta. However you would first have to use an IP tunneling or Virtual Private Network (VPN) program. Once you have a connection established with the other player(s), you can see each other in the game listings under UDP.
