I also start feeling depressed when I lose... just now I got my gas stolen and then DT rushed (both of which were my fault for not noticing) and I just didn't want to play. But I still want to get better so I retreat here and read, or I watch replays, but none of that actually transfers over to MY game, so it feels pointless. I mean I've learned a lot from TL and replays, but I think I'm at the point where the best way to get better is to play more, and then revisit these resources with a higher level of experience later on.
I just won a game against a zerg, but watching the replay, he had around 10 THOUSAND minerals at the end, and seeing as he destroyed 2 of my expansions and I only won because he didn't have many hatcheries to use all those minerals, I wanted to rip my face off.
I try to learn from every game, what I learned from that game is that my timing is non-existent and I can't defend my expansions properly
(Yes I'm D)

Jesus at ppl saying if you're winning it's because the opponent sucked... Cauz you think you can play flawlessly ?... Even jaedong can't play perfectly.
When you win it's because you made less errors than ur opponent, not that he sucked ffs.
And last, maybe that's jsut me but i learn a lot more when i'm winning rather than losing. Maybe it's because i've played shit tons of games and know already my errors.. But can't overcome them cauz i'm getting frustrated. Whereas when i'm winning i get better and better, even doing better builds than the previous game.
So you should stop this "loss = experience win = nothing"

When you're constantly winning and "getting better builds than the previous game", your opponent is just letting a fool persist in his folly. Though he's less skilled than you, he learns more from losing than you do from improving pre-existing strategies.
I've played several competitive games, and each time I was on a very good team. We'd go on long winning streaks and come to think that we were the best, and that our gameplay was flawless and improving each time. And every time, a better team comes along, stomps our strategies into the ground and shatters our egos. Then it comes time to realize; I'm not flawless, I could be doing things differently, and I have to learn what I can do to become a better player.
The only way to come to that point is by losing.
I suggest anyone who gets really frustrated by losses just try to stick to players of your own skill level. If someone is clearly much stronger than you, don't play them again until you're ready. If someone is much weaker than you, you will learn absolutely nothing by playing them. If you play someone and it turns out to be a fairly challenging and close game, keep in contact with them and play them often.

I haven't read the entire thread so I might repeat what people have said but I will say what works for me. First off don't play iccup if you're very tired that will just lead to you making stupid mistakes you usually don't do. Now THAT's annoying. but if you lost "normally" just try to find it interesting and facinating what the opponent did to overocme you. Why did you loose? What could you have done differently to win? Did you miss a moment where you could have attacked with great succes? Just go over things like that and see it as great experience.
The worst thing that can happen is that you get annoyed as you said yourself, that limit your thinking and you loose track of things. If you don't know how to counter something or how to improve just sit down and think about it or watch the replay over and over again. I try not to play a new game untill I know what I should have done differently in the previous game.
Good luck!

I've accepted that I'm always going to lose. The way I see it every time I win, I'm getting closer to a higher rank, in which people are going to kick my ass harder. I'm never going to go to korea and go pro and get better stats than nada so thus I will never be number one and I will always be losing.
My only consolation is every game I play I tell myself "I'm going to win this", every time I get an advantage I tell myself "I'm going to use this to win", every time I get a disadvantage I tell myself "I'm going to find away to win this" and every time I lose I ask "How could I have won?".
And then I get 4 pooled on python while doing a 1rax fe and rage quit. :D

you have to hate losing. just dont let it affect you negatively. you should be angry at losing, but you should also be motivated.

Edit: The above post was exactly the type of information I was looking for, thanks.
Yes it's about stats and proud, you can't accept you're only C- max and don't want to reach your limits. This is just an exemple, but just play to improve not reaching the next rank..

just smoke a joint. it helps me calm down, but not really in improving ;D

Play for that perfect game. Don't worry about losing as long as you do everything you planned to do in that game perfectly.
That's the most precious feeling you can derive from BW.
One time, i maxed out at 12 min 10s and attacked moved a B ranked opponent to death, this is after losing to the guy countless time beforehand.

this- always helps honestly.

you need to just stop caring about losing.... i can lose 10 games in a row and not have it phase me at this point.. just look at it as training..
i don't know why people care about losing so much.. they like are so scared to lose or something... it's really stupid..

Honestly, I believe that being angry or upset when you lose is not a terrible thing, I know from personal experience that the passion I have for winning often leaves me angry and upset when I lose. I think all that matters is how you react to it - I personally try my best to use the anger to fuel my desire to progress and winning

There's defiantly a tipping point for me. I do get angry when I lose at this game but I feel that one loss makes me play better the next game. Two in a row and I'm still ok but after about three or four losses in a row I start oscillating between playing really rashly or just not caring. I'm still trying to figure out why I care so much about this game in particular.

^ Best comment. Who the fuck cares about a 10-0 record if you didn't learn anything? I'd rather have a 0-100 if I learned something about playing.
And besides, you can just make a new account when you're Olympic rank and go nuts o_O

and no one at the top of any form of competition is perfectly fine with losing. if you dont hate losing, you dont care enough about winning.

The only thing that pisses me off is when people turtle up and make games last way longer than they should. I don't have a problem with losing though. I usually find and fix mistakes from all of my losses.

That's why I love playing Protoss. You can always go ForU style 50+ Gateways, rally them to the middle and 1a2a3a4a5a until they go extinct.
On a serious note:
You SHOULD be upset when you lose. I know I am. (I just don't seem to care enough about improving anymore so I don't put in the time watching replays / picking my mistakes apart like I used to).
You should be angry when you lose in a fail-tacular way, too.
However, you should also deal with it. There's no other option. Feed from the anger! Make your next opponent know that "this rank ain't fucking with you" !
That's how you get better.

Thank you everyone for the input! I really appreciate the time you all took to help me out, I'l try some of the stuff people suggested here for sure!

If you're pissed off, just stop breath and watch the replays, this is where you improve.
