He isn't wrong. First, just need to remove one gas from one of the two land expansions outside the nat, see how it goes, and continue to modify the map if needed.

Pretty sure that's why Sc2 looks so boring the recent years cause it is all macro maps and they allow map banning even when new maps are introduced

It also allows strats to kinda evolve

just gonna copypaste what i wrote in the comments:

been saying this for decades on TL forums. since BW does not get balancing, the best (and only) way to balance and advance strategies is to have interesting and diverse maps. i really dislike being able to ban maps in tournaments, because hell, might as well put 7 maps of Fighting Spirit for every series, right?

so weird how players were a lot more open to roaring currents this season yet last season they effectively boycotted death valley in daily proleague until the bracket stages of the asl essentially forced them to practice on it

I reckon they need more buildable land in the middle island too. Protoss needs to be able to plant more cannons on there to have a chance of holding it.

If I recall correctly, nemec talked here about how averse most of the pros are when it comes to weird and non-standard maps and that one of the few pro players that are really open to such maps is snow.

Glad to see him being open to such maps. At least ASL is open to such maps as well to break the monotony. Hope that next season we get to see more of maps (just make sure it isn't something like sparkle)

I would have a blast if the ratio were heavily in favor of the non-standard maps. And to keep making new ones. Tweak the gross imbalances and specifically target the rote shit like hydra busts. Maybe something to make ZvZ go longer.
As a player, the only thing in my way of accepting a more interesting map pool would be my ego. Like do people really want to play on the same old bullshit maps for 25 years, or is it just because it's safe and comfortable. Like fuck, give tournament matches a 1% chance to spawn on Hunters. WWE this shit. It's the same game underneath, just way more vascular with some forced meta changes.

Most of these experimental maps were figured out very quickly.

Most of the times there's some optimal way to play these maps which gives a big advantage to one of the races.

So when these maps are played in a tournament, one of the players is burdened with a mindset of "this is unwinnable".

Its not right to try to evaluate these maps from the few games we get to see in ASL, because what we see there is mostly series preparation. You have to think of the hundreds of practice games where the stats are 80:20 or sth like that.

Roaring Currents is in that sense a big big exception to the rule, where all matchups turned out to be mostly balanced.
