So since they did it why not change the map pool as well? Either nothing happens (no reset, no new maps) or something happen (a reset, here) showing that it is possible. You cant have the reset and their explanation together, one of them has to be false.
Given how the reset was exactly on Aug 1st, I would not rule out that this was an automated yearly script running (i.e. cronjob). No human interaction required.
One option to do this differently would be to have a permanent map pool across seasons but put like 20-30 maps in it. That wouldn't get boring as fast. Question is how do you get new maps into it.

I had actually not considered that, but you are right. In which case they could easily edit it to have 6 months long season. I like the idea of a bigger map pool but then you run into issues of veto overlap etc (now those can all bne tweaked, but it needs to be considered carefully) and still it doesnt solve the problem of new maps (as in newly made maps) being added.
I think the main concern is lack of transparency. If Blizzard came out like "ok guys, we just cant do anything going forward so we ll give you this mappool forever and reset every 6 months" it would probably go down better than the shambolic communication we have. Perhaps we could get on a "standard" map pool and then any new/weird map would just be played elsewhere (tournaments, custom games, Shield Battery etc). Like yeah it might be a bit boring but a lot of people (particularly in Korea, from what I gather) on ladder want normal maps to practice the basics, and then we play the tournament maps in custom games or during the tournament. We need to come up with a solution that is acceptable by Blizzard, and clearly them changing maps periodically is not it for them.

ya'll are missing the point, no solution will work if there's no one at blizz u can even talk to for this. there is 0 investment in this game at this point.

I like the idea of following ASL map pool. You could try out map specific builds that you saw your favourite progamer use. And this should be simple enough for blizzard.

They should just hand the game over to the community.

I recommend reading the blizzard forums thread that was linked on the last page btw. Some info from the (volunteer non-employed) forum moderator about how this is run. Internet archive mirror (partial)

There is nobody to email.
Bobby Kotick is busy drinking cocktails by the beach while the volunteers 'work'. Not sure if anyone is really working in this company anymore. (Other than monetization managers obviously...)
- if you have suggestions about someone to email, feel free to go ahead
