Ever since I started playing Starcraft I was fascinated with the immense capability of the mapmaker and its ability to create amazing maps. I started manufacturing maps years ago and have gathered quite a few of them.
Some mapmakers dream of fame...yes, it is awesome to have your map on the Starcraft gamelist every time you log on.
I have never achieved this honor and really doubt I ever will...my one goal is to create maps that are fun and enjoyable. Hell, I play my own maps so much because I find them fun that it is almost selfish and disgusting.
I have become increasingly busy over the past few years and I know that my mapmaking career is at its end. None of these are of Panzer Kavalier quality; none of them will leave you with your jaw gaping open. They are simple, sometimes uncreative maps, but I find them fun. I doubt any of you have ever seen or played any of them.
I compiled a package of them today to give a friend because he requested it and I figured I would post them on here. Feel free to download the package, the README describes all of the maps. If you want to, download it, read about my maps, and give the one that sounds the most fun a shot; hopefully I did a good enough job as a mapmaker to give you an enjoyable Starcraft experience.
Or you can simply pass this thread over and go on your merry way.
I hope you enjoy

-The_Overmind_77's Starcraft mappack-
INTRODUCTION:
I am no Panzer_Kavalier. I am not even that famous when it comes to mapmaking...but I enjoy it.
I have made some decent maps over the course of my Starcraft career and some have attained a slight
amount of fame.
These are the finest of my maps, hand picked from a massive pile of mostly unworthy pieces of crap.
Heck, some of these aren't even worth showing off...but I hope you enjoy. Yes, all of them are
protected by map protection kits so don't bother trying to steal them. Even if you do manage to
crack them, good luck figuring out the triggers...I can't even update some of them because my labeling
system is so cryptic!
Before I say anything else, here is the obligatory disclaimer:
DISCLAIMER:
This is for entertainment purposes ONLY. Starcraft is a copyright of
Blizzard Entertainment. Any resemblance to any person, living or dead, is
purely coincidental (one would hope, considering the main characters are
slimy zergs and other strange things). All maps are copyright 2007 by The_Overmind_77 and may not be reproduced in any way.
END OF BORING, OBLIGATORY DISCLAIMER
Anyways, below is a brief description of all of the maps included in this pack and a rating (1-5 stars) on
how good I think it is in comparison to the rest of my stuff. Hope you enjoy! And if you don't know how to install these, stop playing starcraft right now and go jump off of the nearest bridge.
MAP DESCRIPTION:
OMFG THE WTF [v 1.8]
Human Players: 6
Type: Melee-based Survival
Rating: *****
This is my version of the OMFG THE LINGS maps, and it is insane. Even though it is not stellar in any sort of concept, it is a very polished map and is EXTREMELY fun to play. If you beat it, you are DAMN good because I have only beaten it a handful of times (this version, at least). Prepare to be nuked! (yes, the enemy will nuke you!) GOOD LUCK!
Lost Temple: Darkness [v 1.3]
Human Players: 4
Type: Suicidal Melee-based Survival
Rating: ****
Take the classic Lost Temple and turn it into a nearly impossible survival map. During the day you and your comrades can see the entire map and rebuild but at night the lights go out and you are all by yourself...and the enemies attack! Try to destroy the temple in under 6 (I think?) nights or you lose. Good luck, I've only beaten it twice. Includes fun bosses and nasty drops. It isn't fair and will make you cry.
Chain Defense [v 1.3]
Human Players: 6
Type: Surprised? Another Melee-based Survival
Rating: ***
Each player commands a chain. You build units melee-style and warp them into your chain. Enemies attack and go down the chain. If your chain fails, hope your buddies can hold out. Comes with power ups to make it less painful. Good luck...it ain't easy.
Lost Temple Apocalypse [v ????]
Human players: 6, 4 players and 2 observers
Type: Altered Melee
Rating: *****
A standard twist on melee: Every few minutes, a disaster strikes the battlefield! Tornadoes, black holes, scourge swarms, famines, etc...hella fun and totally not serious. Laugh and have a blast with this one...it is by far one
of my most favorite maps because of how relaxed it is and totally unfair. Play it on 5 minute mode for the most fun!
Chain of Command: Zerg [v 1.2]
Human Players: 8
Type: Micro-type map
Rating: ***
Built based on the concepts of the original Chain of Command Starcraft map. Two players are commanders and distribute units to their generals. The generals can only see their units so they must communicate effectively with the Commander...because he can see his half of the battlefield! Go kill the enemy Commander and hold the center for additional forces! Bonuses make this map even more fun...best with a full game, otherwise it can get lame.
Running of the Squirrels 2 [v 1.4]
Human Players: 7
Type: Run from the friggin' squirrels
Rating: ****
I took the original Running of the Squirrels map and made major adjustments. A real fun and quick (1-2 minutes per go) map...multiple difficulties, power ups, and fun endings. A hilarious map and a great time burner...ranks as one of my favorite. Try it, it's addicting. Watch out for the Uber Squirrels on the harder difficulties...
Overwhelmed RPG [v 1.31]
Human Players: 5
Type: RPGish survivalish thingymabob
Rating: ***
My only RPG...it is sort of sloppy (didn't know about Death Counters or Hyper Triggers at the time of its creation) but it is pretty fun and difficult. Follow missions and upgrade your miniature army as you fight to destroy the Xion. Work together and enjoy the easter eggs hidden within! It's fun but takes a decent chunk of time (~1 hourish) to complete if you are a bit slow.
Calm Disturbed [v ???]
Human Players: 1
Type: Campaign intro
Rating: ****
I am creating a campaign that will be classy and damn fun...this is the introductory level. It's not taxing or challenging or all that time consuming but does provide for an interesting, flashy introduction. Whenever I get to it I'm going to finish the campaign. It will be approximately 10 levels and will involve all three races as playable parts in the story and it will have unique endings! This is a teaser...
Line Defense EXPERTS!R@%R#WTQGAG#!
Human Players: uhhh 6?
Type: Ubershittyfirstmapever/survival
Rating: (.)(.)
The first map I ever made. Yes, it is pathetic. Play it and laugh. So many secrets and extra things that it is disgusting. compare it to my other maps and you will HOPEFULLY see a MASSIVE improvement. I can't believe I am including this...
CONCLUSION
HAHAH! You actually downloaded my mappack and read to the end of the README! I bet you are the only person to do this. Congrats. Go reward yourself with a cookie or a beer.
Thanks for playing my maps...hopefully you will enjoy them and share them with your friends! That is the ultimate goal of us mapmakers :D

[Edit]I figured since someone recently bumped this topic, I can add my newest map.
It is called "Warlords" and aims to be like a Total War map...massive battles. The unit selection is kept relatively simple and I tried to maintain a simple set of game mechanics. You capture a castle, build up an army, and destroy!
Play with up to 6 players! Hope you enjoy it.
