I've always been suspicious of Blizzard trying to retake control of BW, and I didn't like the changes they made in the new versions. Anyway, I was just curious whether playing v1.16 is still possible.

I stopped following this long ago and maybe I confused what was being done in RM with what was done in BW. But as far as I can tell, v1.16 is the last patch that has a stand-alone download. Anything newer you have to get from Blizzard directly, every time you want to upgrade a copy. Which means that it is available only as long as Blizzard makes it so. This is the sort of stuff that bothered me.

Because thats more safe? By the way: How do you make it through 2419 posts without catching wind of ICCup?

By the way: How do you make it through 2419 posts without catching wind of ICCup? I have the v1.16 on my hard drive, downloaded long ago from Blizzard's official site. So I can install from CD and upgrade to this version without even being online. The fact that you can only get 1.16 from a third party site now is just one aspect of the bigger issue that access to patches can be restricted, especially if they are never made available as stand-alone downloads that can be stored offline. I know of ICCup, I just didn't know if there were any active servers around that were still on 1.16. Hence my question. As for making it "through 2419 posts"... I've been around since long before ICCup was a thing.

I understand where you are coming from OP, I don't like how reliant the current scene is on Blizzard either.

What I really like is not a server, but if there is a sub-forum or a community or discord specifically for 1.16.

Since I'm not active, I'm not really the right person to propose this, but if there are others who prefer v1.16 over the revamped versions, why not organize ICCup meet-ups here?
