Are you trying to run it from the starcraft launcher or the starcraft exe? The exe should launch without installing an update, the launcher gives me a similar error to what you got.

I have a few problems so far:
1. Sound cuts out entirely too fast when you switch screens. What I mean by that is, when you quickjump from your Nexus to your scouting Probe, all the sounds that were coming from your Probes mining instantly disappear. In 1.16, the sound fades gradually. Much less jarring.
2. Dragoon froze while being micro'd! Didn't have to issue a "Stop" command but it refused to follow "Attack" command. Had to debug it with a "Move" command.
3. Apparently my opponent built a Pylon that didn't provide any power - a bug that was present in BW, if I remember correctly, or there was something similar.
4. When the game first started, I was insulted by how ugly it looked. I had to be told to change it to Full Screen mode from "Full Screen Window Mode." That fixed the issue for the most part, but 1.16 still looks a bit crisper, I think. Windowed Full Screen looked SUPER ugly, though; having it as the default setting (I think?) might be a bad move. I might have to check to see which graphics card 1.18 decided to use and see if changing it will help anything.
Overall though, it's not bad. I can live with the new lobby system, especially since there are built-in obs slots. The new font and UI aesthetic, I don't mind it. The Teal Protoss I was playing with actually looked a bit grittier, which I didn't mind.

I'm trying to load from the launcher but I get a "vertex compilation error" when I try to run the starcraft file.
Apparently I need GLSL 1.3 or higher, hmm (I believe that means I need to update my graphics drivers)

Minor gripe but its pretty annoying that I have to add starcraft to my fw's whitelist everytime. Why cant the game remember? lol

Any other Aussies finding it very laggy? The game is almost unplayable even on the Extra High Latency, and I am sure my 6112 UDP port is open.

The pixelation is worse than the old BW graphics.. Yeah, it's so blurry for me Guys, that's what I thought, too. but when I went into NVIDIA Control Panel and checked on "Override the scaling mode set by games and programs" and set my Video to Fullscreen, my BW is back to what it is. And mouse sensitivity is not messed up anymore.
i have AMD
does anyone know where the hotkey folder is? i wanna copy paste it somewhere in case my hotkeys dont get saved
edit: nvm found it, documents > starcraft > hotkeys

I know it's minor, but it seems like we can't rebind the F-keys for the camera.

sweet, clicking anywhere on the replay progress bar fast forwards or rewinds as desired ^_^

I get the whitelist error then when selecting Battle.net I get, "The selected network provider could not be initialized." Has anyone else experienced this and figured out a way onto Battle.net?

Thanks for replying, but StarCraft is already an allowed program through my Windows Firewall. Could you elaborate?

Anyone get an error where a morphing sunken colony has the unit portrait of a creep colony when selected? Had it both in game and in replay. I thought the colony hadnt even finished but instead the sunken was 90% done, tripped me up big.

I just played 4-5 games on test realm. Really enjoyed it and met some cool people. The new chat UI is fine TT1 if you hate it so much play shieldbattery some more. The lag was a problem playing people overseas but its playable if you set network for high latency.

I wish they left the latency alone. I play a specific UMS game called Stacraft Snipers that still has a community and the latency back then was perfect. The game's reaction time is just too fast now. I wish the devs could implement a setting to revert the latency back to the old day's "Low Latency"

Also if you're playing Bald Locks or whatever, why does having latency help you?

Extra High Lat is still too fast. The latency needs to be a perfect 462ms like it was back then on Low Latency.
Having latency makes the game more interesting for reasons that would not be understood just reading it through a forum. You have to be an experienced player to understand the concepts so I won't waste your time by posting meaninglessness.
I just hope if the devs don't fix the latency then if 3rd party people could develop programs to revert the latency back to where it was

I'm warming up to the UI but the background image remains terrible. I'm hoping they change that at the very least..

Sure, SHSes will work fine. But Snipers isn't meant to be played on LAN Latency, it just creates an over-cautious, slow paced game with repetitive, indistinguishable skirmishes.
