This is what I was also wondering and made an inquiry in staff forums. Apparently it's because of the ads. Ad networks pick up on the text that's currently on the page, which can lead to some unfortunate ads displayed on sidebar. Not sure if that's true or not though.

When the viewer limit is reached, relay streams are set up automatically. They are basically the same stream on a different chat room. By purchasing this "quick view", viewers get to skip ads and are allowed in the main chat room even if the viewer limit has been reached.

NOW that is completely irrelevant the chat part

Can we credit them with excellent maps? No, we can credit leagues and map makers for that. Can we credit them for a coherent set of rules that brought legitimacy to the game? Certainly not. I cant think of anything they did save creating a cabal of interested parties that bullied out competitors. Their organization was essential to promoting the viability of Brood War as mass-media entertainment. Let's give credit where credit is due: without KeSPA, none of the ex-pro players we love now would ever have been as good as they are now. It is the stringent demands of the organization and the consequent team rivalry dynamic that forced players to go above and beyond the wildest imaginations of skill. Year after year, people were improving relative to their previous selves, but simultaneously being overcome by players who improved at a faster rate. Such an environment would not have been possible without an organized team structure, in my opinion. Is it necessary now? I don't think so. I commented on this above, and L_Master brought up good points to refute this, but it comes down to the fact that technology and media are vastly different now than they were in the 00's. Here's hoping that self-motivation takes us as far as borderline fascist dictatorship. edit: teams as well as teams with corporate sponsorship predate Kespa. Money follows popularity, broodwar was popular and ergo would of had corporations looking to make bank whether or not the organization existed. Government policy can give out tax incentives without an organization like kespa actually existing, so, what did they do that was actually uniquely beneficial? They didnt bring in money, they didnt set up the actual apparatus by which leagues organized (the leagues did that themselves), they didnt establish or organize the teams (players and the teams did that), they didnt make the game popular (the game and media appearances by grr, boxer and ssaamjang did that).

If people remember Starcraft as being SC2, with the lesser depth, micro, strategy and everything that SC2 lacks compared to BW and the flaws it has like huge volatility etc, that is bad for Starcraft and bad for RTS. Whether RTS must remain a niche genre from now on, or make a revival at some point in the future, the reference for it must be the best game, and that is BW. Furthermore, it is imaginable that RTS lost momentum because of SC2. First of all because BW was the #1 and it got attacked by Blizzard to make way for SC2. Secondly because SC2 doesn't bring a lot of new things on the table and was never as much fun even for casual players to play online. If SC2 had been the amazing game it should have been, RTS would likely be in a much better spot right now. Because it is not, the best thing we can hope for is that BW is recognized and looked at as the reference for RTS. In My Opinion. They say the people who talk about vanilla wow like it is the best game ever invented are the most cynical people on the internet but people like you really take the cake. Those rose tinted goggles are so thick you cant see through them. I like BW, i was old enough to play it when it was released and still remember it. It was in no way funner to casual players than sc2 is, unless playing comp stomps is considered fun. When starcraft 2 came out it was actually pretty big for a few years, people moved on to other genres its not that big of a deal. Its not like if they didn't make sc2 there would be 200k people watching BW tournaments. I know this is a BW website but please stop treating starcraft 2 like it destroyed the structure of esport.
