The Brood War fate seemed to be sealed once KeSPA and Blizzard announced that they stopped fighting over copyright claims and instead wanted to lead us all toward a brighter future – with a Hybrid ProLeague. In other words, the era of almighty progaming in South Korea seemed to be over for Brood War fans. While this was definitely good news for half of this page, the shrinking minority of veterans still aching to see top notch content could not help but be disappointed. Yet, a knight in shining armor, Sonic, appeared and gathered the retired stars. Sonic, a rather capable player in his own right, started to cause an uproar using the Korean streaming platform A Free Casting to organize an underground community. Not long after, we learned about the likes of Terror[fOu], Larva and Mong – new legends on the verge of becoming glorious warriors. Joined by former top ranked players from the KeSPA regime, namely Killer and HiyA, the so-called SOSPA movement continued the saga. The show must go on. Although the huge names of Flash, JaeDong et al. remain “lost“ to us, we do have Bisu, also JangBi (on occasion), Sea, Tyson, Shuttle and others. It turns out, like so often, Brood War did not die and it refuses to die again. By all means, this is great. We even attracted some outsiders to the scene and remain in a somewhat interested state of hibernation. Yet, if a fan does not check the forums on a daily basis and scout for the scarce information (which hard worker bees like Stratos gather and translate) he will have a hard time figuring out what is important and who is relevant. The structure is simply not the best, but it is what we have. That is basically business as usual to us, but not to outsiders we might want to integrate into our small circle, right? Enter: prech. In just a few months the humble Teamliquideian made his debut on Liquipedia and went from 0 edits to the gold club. This alone deserves more than just a notion and raises the question why he has neither a forum star, nor any kind of … well, token that expresses how sick his contributions actually are. What to do with that, and why is there no interview and all? It is because it is not about him, it is about what he did: his milestone. Welcome to Brood War 2.0 on Liquipedia – today the Progaming Portal will be published. Its focus: the current Korean Brood War landscape, whose labels include the “SOSPA”, Korean Amateur, post-KeSPA, or simply, Afreeca scene. For new fans or those returning from some time away, lured back by LoveTV Season 3 or SSL 10, it is a useful gateway (pun intended) for learning more about the current “era”. For those who have remained active, the integrated and redesigned Players or Tournaments portals may be of more use and interest. Go check it out. Finally there is a global page explaining things you would otherwise have to learn from multiple sources!

That Liquipedia portal on the current competitive scene is absolutely awesome and something that we desperately needed.
Incredible work from prech and from everyone else who continue to contribute to the BW Liquipedia. You're all unsung heroes!

Man, I just wish that all those effort could have been decreased much further to the newcomers.
I fear that a lot of them won't have the patience nor the energy to read on...
We can't affort to alienate anyone guys....
It is our duty to continue the legacy of Brood War to the next generation.
We might be the last generation if we don't act at least more friendly to everybody else.
It's important for us to facilitate the access to this game.
And this mean that we need an 21th century updated version of this game.
We need matchmaking system, need the bypass for port forwarding, the anti-hack launcher all in one package.

Many thanks to the various reviewers who've provided input as I was drafting things, including endy, Stratos, HyralGambit, Epoxide, 2pac, etc
Also the many LP folks who provided help with coding and formatting suggestions, including FO, Ravenwhisper and Chap!
Anyone should feel free to edit/revise or make suggestions of what other topics would be of interest (particularly to those newer fans or those who've wandered away for a few years). Plenty of room to improve

I think the Portal is a good step in the right direction. An overview what the names mean, not just a few links here and there to grids. Not sure what you mean with "decreased much further" though.

amazing portal, great work prech!

Thank you prech! Amazing work at the portal

Some say prech must be God's smurf. All we know is that he's an incredible contributor and a paragon of virtue. Don't ask me how but this guy probably feels more at home at the Korean webs than I do - despite not speaking Korean. What magic is this? And just how does he get to eat, drink, poop and still get so much stuff done? Exactly how many slaves does he keep locked up in his basement to run his operation? Or... Could he...? be an incognito member of an advanced alien race sent to infiltrate the foreign Brood War community for a pre-planned invasion? And if so, why? The questions that keep me up at night..

The answer is: He is active on IRC and knows who to ask if he needs help. With his knowledge about BW and our knowledge about the wikis, stuff like this gets done =)
Quite a few hours were put into this Portal page, i can tell you.
