What is VS server? VS Server is a Chinese virtual lan client much like garena, hamachi, or gameranger. It has its own rating system 1-30. The latency varies but the average person experience some have iccup like latency others have really good latency. The skill level is not the best but you will find games quite fast. There is really no language barrier because they just say g for go and gg and the end of the game no needless conversations.
#1 copy and paste your files from your starcraft folder to another folder. You will patch the game 1.13f you don't want to interfere with 1.16. (Name it something like Chinese Starcraft.)

Below L17 is probably the same as old C+/B- and under. Leveling is similar to iccup, you start @ L1 and play games to rank up. (You join all servers through the VS client, it's like a connection interface). It was much more active than ICCup a while ago, but I had latency problems with about half the people. It might be better in europe, and most likely in USA (scan has minimal latency issues). I haven't logged on VS in about 1 year though, but since their community is still super strong (they still have huge tournaments and leagues with hundreds of thousands of views in the top competitions) I would assume it's quite active.
edit: in terms of maps, they play Luna / Circuit Breakers / Fighting Spirit / Python, and then depending on the rank they may play maps like Ground Zero/Electric Circuit etc (due to their leagues running on certain maps they will practice those on ladder)

Thanks for the guide, but it's imo not worth going through all the trouble. - It will lag (same as playing vs Chinese on iCCup) - Using 1.13 is a hassle - No antihack - Levels (ranks) are meaningless because you can get them on any map. I don't know if they have improved the system since last time I played in 2009, but I got to something like Level 14 playing only fastest map. - Possibly even less players than on iccup

And that is if you have some trouble finding a game on Iccup you can give Vs server a try...

Right, because obtaining a Chinese ID card number and downgrading to 1.13f is easier than forwarding ports or downloading MCA launcher to be able to host and find games in a minute.

Yeah, but this is an international page with international visitors reading. I don't see how this is a bad thing, even if it doesn't works for you. It's not like this guide or players testing it just for fun destroys or harms anything. A lot of (felt) negativity over nothing. Liquipedia lists a guide to other portals like Garena. Nobody sane uses Garena, but for the sake of trying to compete with a few hackers and otherwise really untalented players - it's okay.
In an ideal scenario there's a remote and small chance it at least helps to communicate with the Chinese. Even if it is tiny, why wave it away?
On a different issue: I don't quite get the obsession with AH. It's not like there's a good and omnit potent Anti Hack out, even Fish's so-called unbreakable protection is more like a nice tiny icon you activate, doesn't help you if some random Korean has a way around it. Same goes for ICCup or any other portal really, except that it is exponentially harder to get a Fish admin to help you out, thanks to the language barrier and the general attitude of not careing too much about non Kors on a Kor only portal.

I played it last night and I had very little lag at all. It almost felt like I was playing lan. Maurice or Siz)Beggar on iccup said he had not lag at all. If you guys just give it a try because some players do not experience lag like Scan or Maurice.
