anyone else just straight sick of 4 player maps? i downvote everyone of them. now i have to choose between transistor, a map i hate, and CB, a map i also hate

i played bw since release on and off, got more into bw 1-2 years before sc2 release and played sc2 from release til half way through hots before going back to brood war. so yes and no kind of.

I don't like them because they tend to have way more uncontested bases and therefore lend themselves to defenders advantage on equal money. a neutral 3rd spawn and lack of a 4th forces an issue at the 3rd spawn and i find it less stalematey

edit: i forgot the most important reason. i hate scouting last xD

Three player maps are some the hardest maps to create. This is more of a supply problem than a demand problem.

Without going into the details, I'll start off with the most basic problem. Creating starting positions that are all equal distances away from one another is a task that is far more difficult to implement on three player maps.

Maps with an even number of starting positions are going to be made in greater numbers, and this creates a larger pool of maps for tournament organizers to select from. Unless this situation gets fixed, nothing is going to change.

i definitely agree there are map limitations for equidistant bases mostly because of ramps. that's why we have longinus and tau cross! i think transistor is an interesting attempt at circumnavigating this and creating different-looking gameplay but the double ramp makes the mains clunky and lacking for infrastructure. This can be somewhat mitigated by building placement but at the end of the day you only have so many pixels.

perhaps a 128 x 196 tileset with more dead space would allow for a more evenly spaced map, but then you have the smaller minimap

edit: would like more 2 player maps as well!

the workers at the top and the lack of creep spread at the start of the game- i have not noticed these features before but i remember in a thread about changing/balancing mining based on spawns. Is this what they meant? Also I remember something mentioned about creep spread but I believe that was only neutral creep.

Thre is a new method of recalling stacked units, by using patrol command whilst morphing a new archon from two high templars (although it seems you can use probes to have a similar effect from watching the video). It's not that recalling stacked units was previously unknown, but the fact that stacking the army now takes minimal effort (comparatively speaking) makes this move much more potent than before.

This move increases the number of units you can recall, and also decreases the attack response time from the recalled units due to the patrol command.

Interesting stuff.

This is amazing ! Most likely it's going to be banned from tournaments tho.

It's also very high risk high reward trick, assuming You can end up with whole army on a mine field or just get EMP'ed and end up with army being stuck for a long period of time.
