Holy shit... I hope it wasn't just an one-time thing. The more ex-pros streaming the better

He indeed did, and he's still really good. at 2800+ mmr, he got matched vs other pros and ex pros like shine, ggaemo, sea. His English is good too. Very nice to see such an oldschool come back to bw, hope he does it more regularly.

Probably more of a lack of young talents picking up the game since at least 2010. If professional BW had continued in full force, I have no doubt the current top guys would have been dethroned by now. Flash would probably still be a major force but not the unrivalled number one.

I remember when he played a game of BW once for fun in like 2013. He looked baaad and even laughed at himself over how bad he was. But I would imagine a player of his caliber can quickly get up to speed if he sets his mind to it. Class is permanent.

yeah, for almost a decade now, all the young talent in Korea has been going to games that offer the chance of more steady employment (LoL, Overwatch...)

Those games have developer-implemented restrictions on minimum age for their pro scenes (for legal reasons I don't understand), but if it wasn't for that, I imagine we'd see a handful of 12~13 year old LoL players get play time
AdministratorHey HP can you redo everything youve ever done because i have a small complaint?

really?? i never knew that there were age restrictions, does that mean that all of the really good young players just act as practice partners for the presumably worse but legally viable professional players? how does that dynamic play out?

edit~ words
Have you considered the MMO-Champion forum? You are just as irrational and delusional with the right portion of nostalgic populism. By the way: The old Brood War was absolutely unplayable

There has never been a 14 year old champion of a major individual league championship. There has only been two champions who were younger than 17 (Mind winning GomTV MSL S3 at the age of 16, and Flash winning Bacchus 2008 OGN StarLeague at the age of 15). So I don't know which source you are quoting if you think people thought 14 year olds made for perfect professional Brood War players.

However, it was the general consensus that under extremely competitive environments (where the turnover rate of talent is rapid and incessant), that professional Brood War players usually hit their career primes before the age of 20.

It is a fact that has been proven by the mean age (just over 19) of the champions of all 60 major individual leagues that has taken place in over a decade. There has been more players crowned as champions between the ages of 18 and 19 than any other age.

So if the ideal age of a professional Brood War player being around 19 is a myth, I guess it means that the trend that had been ongoing for over a decade must have been a farce, instead of the current scene being completely devoid of a healthy influx of new talent.

soooo what's the "myth" then? we splitting hairs between 17 and 19?
