There has never been a 14 year old champion of a major individual league championship. There has only been two champions who were younger than 17 (Mind winning GomTV MSL S3 at the age of 16, and Flash winning Bacchus 2008 OGN StarLeague at the age of 15). So I don't know which source you are quoting if you think people thought 14 year olds made for perfect professional Brood War players. However, it was the general consensus that under extremely competitive environments (where the turnover rate of talent is rapid and incessant), that professional Brood War players usually hit their career primes before the age of 20. It is a fact that has been proven by the mean age (just over 19) of the champions of all 61 major individual leagues that has taken place in over a decade. There has been more players crowned as champions between the ages of 18 and 19 than any other age. So if the ideal age of a professional Brood War player being around 19 is a myth, I guess it means that the trend that had been ongoing for over a decade must have been a farce, instead of the current scene being completely devoid of a healthy influx of new talent. soooo what's the "myth" then? we splitting hairs between 17 and 19?
15 year old champions: 1 instances 16 year old champions: 1 instances 17 year old champions: 10 instances 18 year old champions: 13 instances 19 year old champions: 12 instances 20 year old champions: 10 instances 21 year old champions: 9 instances 22 year old champions: 3 instances 23 year old champions: 1 instances
Mean age: approximately 19 years of age
There are more late bloomers than there are extreme prodigies (before the age of 17), but it does seem like the big bulk of success at the professional level comes between the ages of 17 and 20.
I don't necessarily think that it has much to do with biological limitations, but once you factor in the fact that even the most enduring professional careers tend to peter out in terms of productivity after six years or so, and the fact that most professional gamers start their career in their teens; it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out why it was so difficult to find top tier professional Brood War players who were well into their 20s.
The circumstances surrounding today are entirely different, due to the talent pool being something of a closed system. I don't think it is anything alike for a player to thrive competitively despite being in their late 20s. I'm sure BoxeR would have been rocking it well into his 30s if his competition was entirely restricted to people who were competing circa 1999 such as H.O.T-Forever and SKELTON. It wasn't his peers or even players who came immediately after BoxeR such as YellOw and Reach that spelled doom for BoxeR as a top tier competitor, it was the non-stop renewal of generation upon generation of new godly talent that eventually rendered BoxeR obsolete. It is something that no top tier Brood War players had to struggle with for quite some time.

I couldn't find a better place to post this, so when I try to TLPD-ise some stuff (I am trying to add more KCM Race Match VODs), for the players, it automatically tries to link it only to SC2 profiles, it doesn't use the BW TLPD profiles, how can I fix this?

Lilsusie I have no idea if you read TL anymore, but thanks for all the stuff you did back in the day for us here for Broodwar. Bigups for saying BW is the superior game at that Pax panel too! :D

Everyone moving into Overwatch and HoTS recently. Kinda crazy! I enjoy playing it, but I don't think I could cast it. I've tried casting FPS games before and it's an entire different beast.
Spitfires best team though! <3

How do you know if people talk about heart of the swarm or heros of the storm? Oh I guess since lotv came after hots everyone talking about hots can be presumed to talk about heroes of the storm now.
I was a bit bored at work and started reading some sc2 stuff on liquipedia. Then I veered to dota 2. Damn dota 2 is big. It dwarfs all the other e-sports.

I have noticed that in some games of the ASL5 on Transistor some Terrans made the first suply depot kind of stacked with the Command center. I may be wrong here but I think I saw it like 3 times so far, so I'm pretty positive about it. I'm thinking this is maybe a special feature of this map given the extremely narrow main but maybe only for terran race? Have anyone else noticed it? Is it something that has already been discused here? Can anyone here elaborate a little further on this?

I think zerg can stack a spawning pool the same way.

It was discussed, I believe in this very thread but I may be mistaken and it could be in some ASL thread or Information from Korea. Try using the search function.

Ahh so much new interest in this game. If there was ever a time for Flash and Jaedong and Proleague and winners league to return to the scene, now would be that time.
