So a couple days ago without warning Hamachi suddenly switched the slot max from 8 to 5. I've started organizing Starcraft games with some of my old LAN nerd night friends using Hamachi now that we're in separate cities. Because it's only now and then that we get above 5, I'm not really interested in paying $20/year to a company that changes their services without warning.
I use Hamachi rather than going through iCCup and the like because I find it easier to explain to neophytes rather than port forwarding. Furthermore, as far you can only port forward one computer on a local network and there's usually two if not more at my house that I'd need to port forward when we're trying to run these games (house mate and local friends playing over.)
So what I'm looking for is a good alternative to Hamachi that's not to difficult to set-up. From the Hamachi forums of outraged people switching, I've seen Neo-Router Free Remobo Wippien Comodo Unite
Of those, Neo-Router is mentioned the most.
What I'm wondering is which is the best replacement and is there any issues with finding games? Hamachi, R1CH had created a ForceHamachi plugin for the Chaos Launcher. I'm going to start experimenting with a couple computers before I start recommending my friends to switch to a program with bugs running Brood War.
Edit- I'm hoping this new progam absolutely has 8 slots available for free as that's really all I need for BW- although it would be nice to not have to add/remove friends.

Try Gameranger. very easy and no need for iccup.

Don't you need to port forward for that as well?

I remember downloading it as one of the alternatives before I went to Hamachi and then it started talking about port forwarding. Not a problem for me as I've already got it port forwarded, but if only one computer per wireless network can be forwarded then it doesn't work. I'll try it out again though.
Edit. Ah what is this?
Port-Restricted Cone NAT Router
Your internet connection is behind a Port-Restricted Cone NAT ROuter that may prevent some people from connecting.
Ah, then it starts talking about Universal Plugins and forwarding 16000. Don't think this is going to work.

My friends and I used to use LAN Bridger for VLAN stuff in WC3 (http://www.lanbridger.com/). We've since moved on to the devs' follow-up project Evolve (https://www.evolvehq.com/), which incorporates the VPN-base of LAN Bridger along w/ a suite of other features (playtime tracking, overlay, messaging, voice, video-capture, etc). AFAIK port-forwarding isn't required for either of these; feel free to give it a shot.

That is not true, you can change the port BW uses with Chaos launcher for example and hence forward those separate ports to separate machines on the same network.

My and my friends use Garena. after the download, takes about 2 minutes to set up.

I'm also interested in this, a lot of the alternatives posted here require sign-up though.

I use garena pretty easy and fast

Garena is prob one of the better choices! If you can get it to work try tunngle, the latency you get on it is near godlike

I am also putting a good word in for tunngle, it might stuff up occassionally (and require a restart to install ), but once everything is up and running it is very good to use.

I have never tried it for Sc, but some friends and I use this for Diablo II after we got tired of b.net deleting our characters for inactivity (it's like a once every year or two fad for us, we get into it for a few months then it fades away until we decide to get back into it). I wasn't a huge fan, but it did work, had more or less no setup, and worked fine with some of us having more than one PC per network.

Tunngle or Garena work very well from my experience.

Also looking for a hamachi alternative too, since now for some reason my friends and I only get relayed connections between each other. The reduced maximum from 16 --> 10 --> 5 is just icing on the cake.
I will try out NeoRouter and Remobo first, Tuungle and Garena are also possible alternatives.

I've tried Garena and tunngle and I prefer Garena. Garena is quite easy to set up and get working.

Both garena and tunngle works great, im not sure if garena works on every game like tunngle though.
