I love Brood War. The level of refinement and precision in top play is really amazing to watch. But let's face it: Brood War is dying. I was switching between the Khan vs KT semifinal and MLG Columbus last night, and the difference in the crowd sizes was really depressing. BW might last a while longer, but it will gradually lose spectators and players to SC2/LoL.
The "SC Proleague" idea is the only way to introduce NEW viewers to BW. I think for that reason alone it is a really good idea. Current PL teams get to keep their top BW players on BW, and can more easily make the switch to integrating SC2 by having a few designated players. Suddenly the much larger SC2 audience is being exposed to BW, which is awesome. BW diehards may also gain a little more respect for SC2. I think at the end of the day, this idea could greatly prolong the current BW scene, even if the leagues eventually separate. LOL. That's because PL is played at the studio in iParkmall. What? If more people were expected to show up, they would have booked a larger studio. Also the number of MLG attendees far exceeds the number of SKT vs KT PL finals attendees from last year, which was played in a medium sized ampitheater that had the capacity to seat many more people than showed up. its OGNs studio...its not like they change studios every week wtf
edit: they used the same studio for wcg where sc2 was played. i dont remember many viewers coming to the studio for that..

I think the change is good in that more SC2 players will realize how good BW is, and I think the mixing of games won't last past the season.

How can one be "constructive" on this topic?
It's not like you can "construct" anything in the first place. It's a reaction thread, and people react according to their taste/feelings. -_-

This does not address the fact that the smallish studio isn't even filled for most teamleague games, and that the ampitheater was not close to full during the PL finals.

And also, the PL finals last season was full attendance. Some people only started to leave towards the end because they were pissed off that the Ace set wasn't Bisu vs Flash. And the reason why it was a smaller venue was because Kespa couldn't find a larger outdoor venue at the last minute due to what happened in Shanghai.

So you think it's a good way to discuss the topic by going completely off-topic by mindlessly bashing on SC2? Expressing your opinion is ok, but not in that form. Something like that is reserved for blogs.

So I don't know very much about SC2 scene, but why are we not making the much better comparison between OGN and GSL?

Thats true, but I think most people in the sc2 scene actually knows that BW is the superior game with the superior players and and most pros are saying that too (it's only the people that got into starcraft from SC2 that bash BW and the players) and I don't think it matters that much if they see BW games in between sc2 games. It's still sc2 thats "in" in the west, it's in sc2 the money is for foreigners so they will play that and follow it and hope that sc2 will reach a new level of gameplay.

OK - I won't pretend to be an expert on Proleague or OSL attendance. Most of the comments I made were based solely on my observations from watching streams.
However, I still think this idea brings in more foreign viewers for BW. More new TL users watching BW = more excitement/BW coverage. I think that's a desirable and would love if the foreign BW scene became more popular.

This makes no sense at all

This is dumb. What the fuck are they thinking?

That is not the correct use for the word 'metagame'.

I think this is the best solution for all parties involved. Just switching from one game to the other would be too harsh for the players and viewers. I love BW more then any other game, but time is running fast...

Can t wait the new micro - freenzy in PvP. I wouldn't hold my breath for new micro from these guys if they would play SC2. You can't really do that much before you are actually hurting yourself more than doing good because of how "smart" the AI works and bland the units are. You will see what you see now but with just more accuracy and speed from a few players.
Day9 said it best in his frisbee vs baseball analogy.

Lmao, I'm not gonna lie, rift brings up a beautiful point.
I think I speak for the entirety of the remaining BW fans in saying that with the money blizzard spent hyping SC2 up, I'm sure nearly every fan (US, elsewhere, and korea) has attempted to like SC2 and just simply dont. Despite all the adveritising and TL basically converting to an SC2 site, the BW community lives on because we tried, and simply do not like SC2.
Because of this, OGN's new plan seems really dumb. Essentially, they are trying to convert the people who probably dislike SC2 the most (the BW stalwarts) to SC2. Obviously, this isn't gonna work too well.
Rift brings up a really good point, and neither him nor Talin are "flaming". Rift simply gives several examples of stuff hardcore BW fans find laughable with SC2, several examples of why we don't like SC2 and won't convert despite this pathetic attempt.

It would be interesting to see changes in viewership across different games. People would probably be changing the channel during SC2 matches.

Please do your research, and avoid making apples and oranges comparisons.

Here is why its a good idea, even if you're a BW purist and dislike SC2.
Businesses only survive by growing, they can't survive a sustained decline in market size as a stand alone business because rather than growing their employee base they'll need to be constantly shrinking it. This causes internal turmoil, which makes the decline faster.
By introducing SC2 and expanding their potential fan base, OGN will be able to broadcast BW for more years than if they continued to focus on BW alone. There certainly still is a market for BW, but because its shrinking, OGN is put in the bad position of having to find other area's of growth.
Opinions on BW vs SC2 are irrelevent. There is enough real market data for a business to make the right decisions.
OGN has to find growth, any business does. BW no longer provides it, hopefully SC2 will and not LOL.
